Depending on your number of plants a cheap CFL would do.

A T5 would work better if u got lots of plants or that massive CFL i posted.

I'm vegging 8 seedlings and one large plant under my 2'x4' 8 bulb T5 currently. I like it more then my 400w mh. Mainly because of the larger footprint and much less heat output. It's 53 more watts then my 400w mh too. They're good investments imho. The smaller ones are great for clones.

It really depends on how long they stay off and the number of off/on cycles, and would have to be a purely hypothetical scenario to truly use more total kW-hrs, but this does not really pertain to the original conversation topic.

Not really, 16 to 17.5 hours will keep most plants in the veg state.

I've vegged with 14 before without any flowering. Though I'm sure genetics of the plant plays a role.

14 hours is around the point that plants start to enter flower outside.

I started some seeds under 14/10 because I started them in the same room as my cacti and it was winter so I had the lights on a shorted cycle. anyways they started to flower by the time they were putting out their third node. (a few weeks since germination)

my plant is inside my dresser/bureau so all you hear is fans
I cut a piece of wood at home depot to sound proof it and now I don't have to worry about anything getting in there it's at the foot of my bed

nah i just gave up
too expensive for me to experiment with cheap led fixtures if I don't have a reason too

it'd only be a problem if I wanted to watch a movie with someone, with my headphones on i don't even notice it

I cut out that piece of wood awhile ago because the door wouldn't close with the light in there so i had to rip if off

Sounds like the sound was keeping u up not the light. But i guess it was both.

I was figuring insulation would be the best thing to do. Shield the light and sound.

Thats the downside of indoor growing: bright lights and noise.

dude, its very simple, either get a grow tent or build your own, get some 2x4's, rip them down to 1 inch by 1 inch, build your frame with those, then get some black and white poly (plastic sheeting, black on one side white on the other) hang the poly to make walls, ceiling and a door. now you can run what ever lights you need to without keeping you from your beauty rest. you will need to add a fan (you should have one in there anyway), and a place for hot air to excape and a place for fresh air to come in.
