Giving Coco a try * 1
    #822952 - 01/24/17 04:07 PM (7 years, 2 months ago)

So I bought a big ol' bag of coco initially for mushrooms. But I decided to grow some autos ,10 random reg seeds from magash. Was gonna do them in happy frog or ocean Forrest. But thought this was a good opportunity to try out coir.

Those who have used it have any tips? Is it just coir or mix of verm and or perlite? I plan on using one or two gallon bags. Haven't decided yet. With my usual nutes for hydro. They'll be under a T5 on 24/7 though out the grow. Then I'll switch to either a 400w HPS or two 150w HPS when they start flowering.

Thanks.

If you use your hydro nutes keep in mind the medium will hold those nutrients a lot longer than just water. Be careful you don't burn the plants by using too much of the nutrients. I can't help you with the other questions about coir since I've never used it for pot.

Anyone who use it can answer my question? How often do you water with coco? I read some places every day.

The best results I ever achieved with coco was watering twice a day.

Canna has some theory behind coco, as they were the people who developed it for hydroponic use. They make a coco that drains to %43 air so you don't need to use perlite or anything else to fluff the medium(you cannot over water it, as you water the air gets displaced and new air is sucked in as it drains) Other brands don't claim that, and I've seen some like House and Garden that are all string instead of a blend of pith. They don't like adding perlite or anything else as it interferes with the nutrient:medium benefits of coco.

They recommend drain to waste with about 20% runoff, but I've been doing it with no runoff (like a lot of people apparently) with great results.

Coco needs Ca/Mg to work properly. Once its been treated the molecules will interact with the coco to help deliver nutrients.
