Not sure who's tried this or not, but take a black light to your buds and see what happens 
Talk about a world of difference. If you have a mix of 10 different strains in a bag, shine a black light on them and you will be able to tell the difference between every single strain.
Green on green turns to purple on white, hairs change all different colors and the whole thing is amazing.
For a handheld, this one works great, much better than the smaller handheld lights.

i used to have one, that was a pocket microscope, and had an led white light, and a uv light, for "counterfeit tender". it was awesome for checking trichomes.
