This is so true.... working out a few times a week is easy.  Its eating clean to build muscle and burn fat, that is the hard part.

I know guys that have been working out for years now,  they look fat 220-250lbs.  but they are strong as hell.... just all their gains (muscle) are under a layer of fat.  if you dont eat clean, you cant even tell you lift.

Good thread.  I've been slowly getting myself a routine going again. I've lost a lot of weight over the past 5 years, but I need to build the muscle back up.  Was 235, and sitting at 155 atm.  I would say about 30lbs of that was lost due to illness though so it was probably all muscle weight.

What's your diet look like?  Do you eat the same thing several times a day?  The biggest pain in the ass about eating clean for me is getting a good variety without breaking the bank.

My history:

i was a cig smoker and lazy as fuck my till i was 22, then i quit and started working out... gave 'er for years.  I was rippped at 205 of pure muscle at my peak.  Ended up doing a steroid cycle and got stong as fuck, but a shitty PCT made me not want to continue (so it fucked me in the end)

spent next 5 yrs smokin cigars and doing coke and partying hard as fuck.

Fast forward to a year ago... Im 215lb and feel weak and lazy all the time....  realize its time to get healthy once again

Started mountain biking this spring and got back into being healthy and fitness... then i decided its time to start lifting and doin cardio again and lose some fat.

So I was cutting for last 3 months, so I was eating tons of veggies/fruit/nuts/water... went from 214lbs to about 193lbs (6ft2").  So ive lost 20lbs of fat recently.... That was from eating SUPER clean, working out every second day,  and running about 4 days a week.  My workouts are super intense atm.... i do 200-225 pushups and 4x2min planks (for just my warmups every workout)

Sugar was the hardest shit to cutt from my diet.  Its added to everything....

Basically most "fruit juice" is garbage, and has tons of added sugar.  The liver can only process so much sugar at a time... so if your taking in 50 grams of sugar.  Almost all of it is being processed into the fat cells.  It was not until i cut most my sugar did i really start losing fat!

Clean food does cost more (chicken breast, steak, nuts, fruit veggies), compared to shit food (processed food, pop, chips, etc).  But the benefits physically and mentally are worth the extra cost.

i buy all my nuts in bulk at waly world, meat in bulk from costco, most my produce from local farmers markets or from this supermarket close by (great price of fruit)

Awesome thread bud. Just signed up at a gym a month ago so my girl and I have been working out together and stepping up our diet game. We try to eat organic and lotsa greens but it gets pricey.

Slowly seeing the hard work pay off as I've never really been cut up but it's coming along. Hitting the gym later in the afternoon today :aweyea:

When I first got myself into a routine, I didn't see much progress at all.  It was when I quit alcohol that I started seeing a loss in fat.  That shit has just as much sugar as soda.

I hate that they add sugar(corn syrup) to everything in the states.  Usually the second ingredient after water, even in foods and sauces.  Luckily, I don't have a sugar tooth at all so cutting it out is easy enough as long as I'm willing to prepare all of my own food.

Farmer's markets are what's up.  Most of them here sell mystery boxes of veggies for a super cheap price.  Everything is fresh, but it's just an assortment of different veggies probably based on what inventory they have left. The only pain is when you get something you don't know how to cook, but the internet knows everything lol.

Sounds like you got it going on.  Keep it up.  You too Mario.  The worst thing is signing a year contract and not going at least 4 times a week.

Lol yea, that's what was happening until I stepped shit up. The cool thing about the gym I attend is that I can bring a guest with me so it's like im paying for two memberships at single membership prices.

Damn I need to hit up a Farmers Market then, I'm over paying.

Good to hear your getting strong Sham.  I used to be in the gym 5 days a week.  These days i just workout at home...

I got everything i need here.. plates, bars, kettlebells, heavy iron Db's (40-60lbs).  So i just converted a extra bedroom into my gym.  I like to be in my zone and just giver...

I used to do split workouts back in the day (different area's different days).  Now i do Full body workouts every second day.  Legs, core, chest, back, arms all in one workout!  Then i usually take more caff and go for a run.

I use 200-300mg of caff before every workout/run. With a caff boost im a fuckin beast

Ill start posting my workout routines in the future... everytime i workout i try and make it a tiny harder (more reps or weight).

Feel free to post your routines.  No judgment on anything in here... any workout is better then none.

Ive never been into jogging or running ever in my life..  but i fuckin love it now!  When i started i could run 30 seconds at a time without getting winded.....  Now i do 5 mins at a time.

I Just set timer on my phone and jog till the timer goes off, then walk for a min or so and do it again.  Usually do 5-8 5min sprints a run.

Running is all mind vs body, to me.  Your legs are screaming stop, lungs feel like they are gonna burst, but you gotta tell your body to shut up, and just keep going.  Cant stop till you hear the timer go off...

Hardest part is the first 10 mins... after that your warmed up and its easy

Nice man :highfive: and thanks for that running meme, helps out.

I try to go every other day but I get lazy at times. I try to run about a mile and some change, I then work on my legs. After that I hit up the abs section and crank shit out and I lastly work on my arms.

Lately I've been taking 2 - 3 grams of krat before I head out and it helps out a ton with the endurance.

Great thread.
I cut down a tree with an axe yesterday, so i consider myself pretty fit.
wish i could run though.
played soccer my whole life.
cant run without a fucking ball to chase, like a fuckin lab...
ive gotten a lil better with age, and have found i can make due with some music.
all in all though i dont lift, or gym ever. got buddies that do.
i got a door jam pull up bar i hit, a kettle ball and thats it.
then its just kickin the ball around once a week (hopefully), hiking when i can, and daily work like yesterday that keeps me goin strong.
i eat well too though, although my sweet tooth pisses me off and gets the best of me, particularly when stoned.
keep up the good work

cheers

I try but I get bored (probably do to technology-induced ADD). I much prefer biking. Gonna be a couple months before I can afford a new bike though so I need to force myself to run until then.

200mg of caffeine + a couple hoots of nice sativa+ good music on loud (earbuds) = A beast mode run

Im soaked in sweat by the time i get home, with a nice endorphin smile on my face (usually dizzy too)

I live right beside a massive hilly park here.  the trails are so long and some are almost straight up/down.  Its perfect for running and biking... no crosswalks or lights to slow u down like city riding/runnin.  The only people you see are other joggers, people on bikes, or hippies doin drum shit.

The trails are amazing.  its only one block away from my house too.

I do enjoy urban mountain biking... rippin full speed through the city is insane and fun.  See so much shit going full speed down any road, alley or place u wanna go.  I go around cars, on sidewalk, down weird paths...  Urban mountain biking is intense for sure

didnt realize this thread existed.

ive been thinking about upping my running to every day. so far its been every other day. i am getting faster and i am taking less breaks. my goal is to get to the end and back without taking a single break.

until i get more/ heavier weights, im going to work out daily with the dumbbell too. its only 20lbs, but it works, for now. i just have to do more reps.

i need to invest in a scale. if i were to guess, id say ove lost between 5-7 pounds in the last 2 weeks. alcohol really does pack on all that bullshit.

You really should let your legs recover.... If you run everyday u dont give ur muscles times to heal.  Muscles grow when they heal.  ive ran 4 days in a row once, and my legs were sooo sore i could hardly walk up my stairs....  I really giver tho!

how all fitness works:  Working out rips the muscles, resting heals and makes muscles stronger (and bigger).  So resting is more important then working out is in some ways.  Just make each workout worth it!  Over trainning is hard on the body and does nothing but get you and super sore.

the secret about running is to run LONGER not FASTER.... go a nice slow pace so u can jog/run for a long time .  3-4 times a week is considered alot of running.  Just make your runs for a hour, and maybe rest the next day.  Use a weighted vest, or go up and down hills to make it harder.  (short strides downhill always!!!!!)

As for the 20lb db's.... they will work.  but are way too small for most average men.

Low weight + high reps = burn fat , small lean muscles.

Heavy weight + low reps (5reps/5set) =  big muscles (and burns lots of fat)

As for a scale:  FUCK EM!!!!  weight is so up and down that watching a scale is pointless.  Muscles weighs sooo much more then fat.  So if u burn 5lbs of fat but bulk 5 lbs or muscle u look great, but weigh the same

this is only half of my equipment.  still got all my kettlebells/heavier db's/and bench+ bar at my storage locker.

Investing in GOOD cast iron equipment is always a great investment.  these will last you a lifetime..  my shit is 8yrs old but still good

this is enough to get anyone ripped tho.....  those big cast iron db's are no joke and u can do so many exercises with em.

The weighted vest is great of hiking or walking/joggin around.  i can make it 0-40lbs... there is 25lbs or weight in it now, you feel it after a while.  I look like im wearin a bullet proof vest when i wear it too.:paradisiscoolwhat:

I don't run hard and fast. I just run. Natrually I became faster. My goal is to get to the end and back with no break. I don't care about the time. I've already dropped 2 breaks. We will see how it goes tomorrow morning.

Sending good vibes :fasted:

All the treadmills were packed so I hit up this step bicycle thingy...GODDAMN! Set it up for half an hour and started cranking away.

After a few minutes I reached for my headphones and realized I was missing an ear bud, kinda threw off my groove but it was all good.

i start at the map mark and run to the left following the feeder trail. i run down under the bridge and turn around at the Gazebo Restaurant. this morning i was able to run the entire thing and only take 1.5 breaks. the .5 is from waiting for a car to pass which was only about 20 seconds.

I've got a workout center in my building, but I've used it less than a dozen times since I moved in. I need to get on that shit.

Cos melikes.

Heading to the gym in a few. Just made a Kale, carrot, blueberry, goji berry, turmeric root, hemp protein shake.

Imma try to just run today but I feel the new muscle on the arms so might as well work on those too.

DO any of you guys take kratom before working out?? I notice it helps me sweat so much and I am able to push the extra mile.

finally got up and went running this morning and man was it brutal.

even though i stretched, my leg muscle felt tight. my body felt heavy too. it was really hard to run this morning. i also took about 4 breaks instead of 1, but i did run none the less.

Now to contribute to the thread lol.

For many people, it's not eating too much sugar, it's drinking it.  Soda and alcohol are some of the worst things for losing weight.

http://sugarstacks.com/ This site has some good comparisons on how much sugar is in the food/drinks you consume.

I've been using the gym in my building a bit more. I'm mainly going for upper body/shoulder strength.

You said you use a bench at home ya?  Could you post what your routine looks like?  With the proper motivation, some free weights would be a solid investment.

Ya i could help you get started...  you dont even need a bench and bars to get started.

grab some heavy iron dumbells and just get started....

Ill post my workout today.  I do full body workouts every second day.  I also run 2-4 times a week too.

My workouts are a lil more intense then splits, but i give my body 48hrs to heal so its not that bad.

I ate a cookie and was too sore and lazy to update with yesterdays workouts.

Yesterday

-Wake up and drink lots of water and eat good carbs (muscle food) with some protein and fruit.

Take 300mg of caffeine (sometimes i take ephedrine too), Then wait 45 mins to start my workouts.  The caff gives a GREAT push for workouts/runs.  Without it i would not be able to kill some of these workouts

Yesterdays workout

Warm-up & Regular shit

-50 Jumpin Jacks
-15 Burpies
-120 weighted vest push ups (20x6) just started doing weighted ones instead of 200-250 without weight.
-planks (2 x 2:00 Normal ones) (1 x 1:50 for each side planks).

Exercises

-50lb dumbbell Jump squats ( 10 reps x4 sets)

-Curls 45lb single dumbell hammer curls ( 5 reps x 5 sets)

-Leg lifts/ core crunches ( 20x3 )

-Shrugs (50lb on one side, 55 on the other,  alternative each set) 11reps x 4 sets

After this i stretch out good, from top to bottom....

THEN ITS TIME TO REFUEL Before Running.

Yesterdays postworkout refuel was Magnesium, Spirulina, Omegas, Almonds, PB on a Banana for my post workout.  Its important to refuel after a good workout. Im still "Cutting" so im taking in less cals then i would if i was bulking...

Protein and nutrients is what u want post workout.... you dont need to drink some gross thick ass byproduct whey drink tho.  fuck whey. You get better protein from real sources.

Then i take some more caffeine and go for a run for around an hour.

This is a block from my house.  So i go to the tallest point then go running after i get to the top.

How i run is i set my timer on my phone, and jog till i hear the timer go off... when i started id do 30-50seconds at a time.  Now Im up to doing 6:30 sprints at a time.  I usually do 5 or 6 per run.

I use a pedometer on my phone...

This is my starts for yesterday.  I like to keep track on my distances and times

Basically every time/week my workouts/runs/etc get harder and harder.  After doing the same workout or run for a week or so it gets easy and boring.  So im always changing weights, workouts, sets, places to run.  Always challenging myself to get stronger,
faster, better.

That workout i posted was basically what i do roughly everytime.  but instead of jumpsquats next time, maybe ill do sumo squats, or prisoner squats.

Then next workout for curls maybe ill do hammer curls, or maybe use my curl bar.  Same as for instead of doing shrugs, maybe ill do weighted dips, or db raises.... basically always changing it around and never getting anything too routine or comfortable .

Thanks for sharing. When I saw the pic I was thinking wtf is up with that banana lol.  A friend of mine was using a 100lb vest for training to be a firefighter and it popped a disc in his lower back.  His doctor told him that applying the weight to the thighs instead of the torso or ankles is much safer.

Ya i could see how a 100lb vest could be bad for the spine.  My back was getting sore when i used it with my squats, so now i just use it for pushups/pull ups or for running.

Im finding that i can run longer without it if i train with it.  How i see it, its like i weigh 25lbs more, so my body just has to work a lil harder to run in it .

Well its Gains/workoutday today..... had a good breakfast and my caffeine already .  Gonna go have a hoot and a steam soon, then ill kill a workout.

Today

-50 Jumpin jacks
-15 burpies
-4 planks (1.5-2mins)
-120 pushups (weighted)
-prisoner squats
-barbell curl (80lbs)
-core work
-dips
-?

then refuel and go run for a hour

The hardest part of ANY workout/run is the first 10 mins... its sucks, your muscles are not warmed up.  You would rather relax.... but once u get over that hump of 10 mins the rest is easy and gravy.

I really get this with running.... first 10 mins suck balls... then after 10 mins, im warmed up and the rest is easy

killed that workout.... those 2 min planks are still killers tho, i was doin 1.20 planks for the longest time, then went to 130,145 and now im on 2 mins..... after 1.30 im shaking like a lil baby

the weighted push ups are getting easier... when i first started doin em 8 felt like 20 without weights.... now im banging 20 pretty fast.

Almost time to go run the paths.....time for another caff booster and some sativa first.

Robert De Niro's Penitentiary Workout for Cape Fear. De Niro’s program involved all body weight exercises just as a real prisoner would most likely perform while in jail. Body weight exercises like dips, chin-ups, pull-ups, and push-ups were used in addition to performing 600 crunches a day which sculpted the actor’s abdominals and gave him a total body muscle building workout. Training days were split into pushing (push-ups, dips, squats) and pulling days (pull-ups, chin-ups, rows).

hell ya..  You burn just as many calories walking a km, as you do running it.  So everytime u take the dogs for even a walk your doing a workout.

Im sore as shit today.  Those squats tore up my legs,  havin trouble walkin up and down the stairs today.  lol  I like the "Sore" feeling tho, u know the muscles got torn up and will rebuild stronger.

I might go for a long as bike ride today if i get the energy

Iron and the Soul – By Henry Rollins

I believe that the definition of definition is reinvention. To not be like your parents. To not be like your friends. To be yourself.

Completely.

When I was young I had no sense of myself. All I was, was a product of all the fear and humiliation I suffered. Fear of my parents. The humiliation of teachers calling me “garbage can” and telling me I’d be mowing lawns for a living. And the very real terror of my fellow students. I was threatened and beaten up for the color of my skin and my size. I was skinny and clumsy, and when others would tease me I didn’t run home crying, wondering why. I knew all too well. I was there to be antagonized. In sports I was laughed at. A spaz. I was pretty good at boxing but only because the rage that filled my every waking moment made me wild and unpredictable. I fought with some strange fury. The other boys thought I was crazy.

I hated myself all the time. As stupid at it seems now, I wanted to talk like them, dress like them, carry myself with the ease of knowing that I wasn’t going to get pounded in the hallway between classes. Years passed and I learned to keep it all inside. I only talked to a few boys in my grade. Other losers. Some of them are to this day the greatest people I have ever known. Hang out with a guy who has had his head flushed down a toilet a few times, treat him with respect, and you’ll find a faithful friend forever. But even with friends, school sucked. Teachers gave me hard time. I didn’t think much of them either.

Then came Mr. Pepperman, my advisor. He was a powerfully built Vietnam veteran, and he was scary. No one ever talked out of turn in his class. Once one kid did and Mr. P. lifted him off the ground and pinned him to the blackboard. Mr. P. could see that I was in bad shape, and one Friday in October he asked me if I had ever worked out with weights. I told him no. He told me that I was going to take some of the money that I had saved and buy a hundred-pound set of weights at Sears. As I left his office, I started to think of things I would say to him on Monday when he asked about the weights that I was not going to buy. Still, it made me feel special. My father never really got that close to caring. On Saturday I bought the weights, but I couldn’t even drag them to my mom’s car. An attendant laughed at me as he put them on a dolly.

Monday came and I was called into Mr. P.’s office after school. He said that he was going to show me how to work out. He was going to put me on a program and start hitting me in the solar plexus in the hallway when I wasn’t looking. When I could take the punch we would know that we were getting somewhere. At no time was I to look at myself in the mirror or tell anyone at school what I was doing. In the gym he showed me ten basic exercises. I paid more attention than I ever did in any of my classes. I didn’t want to blow it. I went home that night and started right in.

Weeks passed, and every once in a while Mr. P. would give me a shot and drop me in the hallway, sending my books flying. The other students didn’t know what to think. More weeks passed, and I was steadily adding new weights to the bar. I could sense the power inside my body growing. I could feel it.

Right before Christmas break I was walking to class, and from out of nowhere Mr. Pepperman appeared and gave me a shot in the chest. I laughed and kept going. He said I could look at myself now. I got home and ran to the bathroom and pulled off my shirt. I saw a body, not just the shell that housed my stomach and my heart. My biceps bulged. My chest had definition. I felt strong. It was the first time I can remember having a sense of myself. I had done something and no one could ever take it away. You couldn’t say shit to me.

It took me years to fully appreciate the value of the lessons I have learned from the Iron. I used to think that it was my adversary, that I was trying to lift that which does not want to be lifted. I was wrong. When the Iron doesn’t want to come off the mat, it’s the kindest thing it can do for you. If it flew up and went through the ceiling, it wouldn’t teach you anything. That’s the way the Iron talks to you. It tells you that the material you work with is that which you will come to resemble. That which you work against will always work against you.

It wasn’t until my late twenties that I learned that by working out I had given myself a great gift. I learned that nothing good comes without work and a certain amount of pain. When I finish a set that leaves me shaking, I know more about myself. When something gets bad, I know it can’t be as bad as that workout.

I used to fight the pain, but recently this became clear to me: pain is not my enemy; it is my call to greatness. But when dealing with the Iron, one must be careful to interpret the pain correctly. Most injuries involving the Iron come from ego. I once spent a few weeks lifting weight that my body wasn’t ready for and spent a few months not picking up anything heavier than a fork. Try to lift what you’re not prepared to and the Iron will teach you a little lesson in restraint and self-control.

I have never met a truly strong person who didn’t have self-respect. I think a lot of inwardly and outwardly directed contempt passes itself off as self-respect: the idea of raising yourself by stepping on someone’s shoulders instead of doing it yourself. When I see guys working out for cosmetic reasons, I see vanity exposing them in the worst way, as cartoon characters, billboards for imbalance and insecurity. Strength reveals itself through character. It is the difference between bouncers who get off strong-arming people and Mr. Pepperman.

Muscle mass does not always equal strength. Strength is kindness and sensitivity. Strength is understanding that your power is both physical and emotional. That it comes from the body and the mind. And the heart.

Yukio Mishima said that he could not entertain the idea of romance if he was not strong. Romance is such a strong and overwhelming passion, a weakened body cannot sustain it for long. I have some of my most romantic thoughts when I am with the Iron. Once I was in love with a woman. I thought about her the most when the pain from a workout was racing through my body.

Everything in me wanted her. So much so that sex was only a fraction of my total desire. It was the single most intense love I have ever felt, but she lived far away and I didn’t see her very often. Working out was a healthy way of dealing with the loneliness. To this day, when I work out I usually listen to ballads.

I prefer to work out alone. It enables me to concentrate on the lessons that the Iron has for me. Learning about what you’re made of is always time well spent, and I have found no better teacher. The Iron had taught me how to live. Life is capable of driving you out of your mind. The way it all comes down these days, it’s some kind of miracle if you’re not insane. People have become separated from their bodies. They are no longer whole.

I see them move from their offices to their cars and on to their suburban homes. They stress out constantly, they lose sleep, they eat badly. And they behave badly. Their egos run wild; they become motivated by that which will eventually give them a massive stroke. They need the Iron Mind.

Through the years, I have combined meditation, action, and the Iron into a single strength. I believe that when the body is strong, the mind thinks strong thoughts. Time spent away from the Iron makes my mind degenerate. I wallow in a thick depression. My body shuts down my mind.

The Iron is the best antidepressant I have ever found. There is no better way to fight weakness than with strength. Once the mind and body have been awakened to their true potential, it’s impossible to turn back.

The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you’re a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds.

Here are 150 of the best muscle building tips I could piece together in one evening. They are short, sweet and to the point. But don't let that fool you. Follow them and you'll be successful.
150 Muscle Building Tips

1) Compound exercises are your best tools for growth. Use them.

2) Eat your biggest meal of the day about 30 to 60 minutes after you lift weights.

3) Get strong! There are no weak bodybuilders. You don't have to become a powerlifter, but you do need to dramatically improve your strength over what it is now.

4) Squats are king of the muscle builders, and they are not bad for your knees unless your form is horrible and/or you are half-squatting.

5) Deadlift. If squats are king, deadlifts are second in command. They are not bad for your back unless your form is horrible.

6) Learn proper form. Read every article, and watch every video you can on proper exercise form. There is no excuse for having sub-par squat and deadlift form.

7) Balance your upper body work. This means equal effort for chest, back and shoulders. Stop doing 7 exercises for chest and only lat pull downs for back. Balance will keep you healthy, strong and help to stave off shoulder issues.

8) Beginners...stop training like advanced lifters, using advanced splits and training techniques. They are not needed. What you need is to get strong on the basic compound lifts more than anything.

9) Beginners...stop adding training volume. Having 3 bicep days per week isn't going to help. You need to get strong right now, not fatigue yourself with endless sets.

10) Stop believing that muscle building is rocket surgery. It isn't. Get stronger, eat enough food and stay persistence.

11) Stop missing workouts.

12) Stop complaining about muscle soreness. It's part of the game. Don't miss workouts because of it. No excuses - get to the gym.

13) Stop complaining about every ache, pain or strain. Lifting weights is hard, and a man's game. You're going to feel off occasionally. No excuses - get to the gym.

14) Proper muscle building nutrition is much more than broccoli, rice and chicken breasts. Eat a variety of whole foods each week.

15) Eat more red meat.

16) Eat more eggs, including the yolks. Egg yolks are nutritionally dense.

17) Drink plenty of water. Then drink more.

18) Sleep at least 8 hours a night and take naps when possible.

19) Learn to cook. Muscle building nutrition doesn't have to be bland.

20) Having trouble reaching your calorie goals? Add butter or olive oil to your veggies.

21) Having trouble reaching your calorie goals? Switch to whole milk, and drink at least 3 large glasses per day.

22) Having trouble reaching your calorie goals? Add sour cream and cheese to every possible meal.

23) Having trouble reaching your calorie goals? Snack on almonds and nuts in between meals.

24) Beginners...stop obsessing about muscle confusion. You won't plateau for years and years. Confuse your muscles with more weight.

Cable Extensions25) Stop changing workouts every 2 weeks. This is a huge waste of time. You're spending more time adapting to the specific conditioning requirements of the workout than you are building muscle.

26) Obsess about keeping your abs and undereat to stay lean, and that's all you'll ever be: skinny with abs.

27) Learn to evolve your training based on needs rather than making random workout changes.

28) Industry standard bodybuilding workouts contain a high percentage of nonsense. Ever notice how 95% of these workouts never tell you how to add weight? Guess what - adding weight is the cornerstone of progress and results.

29) Not all supplements are bad, but some supplement claims can be. Learn the difference.

30) Very few muscle building topics are black or white. Balance what you read with what advanced, successful lifters are using.

31) Science can help, but training is still an art. Everybody is different. Try new things based on science, but tweak them to fit your personal needs.

32) Anyone that insists a topic or training concept is 100% black or white should be approached with caution. Different things work for different lifters.

33) Progression of weight is the magic muscle building key.

34) Why does every workout seem to work? Because a lifter who is dedicated, eats right and gets stronger can thrive on even the most unorganized muscle building workout.

35) Fat is not bad. Do not avoid healthy fats. Your body needs fat to function properly.

36) Eat 90% healthy, whole foods. Allow some of your calories to be fun calories, so you can stay sane and a member of the human race.

37) Just because someone has a six pack doesn't mean they know how to build muscle. Learn the difference between a diet expert and good muscle building advice.

38) Squats above parallel are dangerous (bad for the knees).

39) 20 rep squats are insane and amazing. Try them.

40) Have more sex. It's good for you.

41) Perform cardio 3 times a week for overall health. better health is never a bad thing.

42) Cardio will not limit your gains. Only poor effort in the gym and a weak diet will limit your gains.

43) A great back training combination includes the deadlift, a row, and a lat exercise like pullups, rack chins or lat pulldowns.

44) Dips are underused but potent. They were once considered the upper body squat. Don't underestimate their ability to pack on chest and tricep mass.

45) Find abs exercises that allow you to increase resistance, like weighted situps or cable crunches.

46) Stubborn calves? Try heavy, low rep, high volume work for several months as a change of pace to high rep sets.

Muscle Building Tips

47) Most bulks that result in excessive fat gain and little muscle gain happen because 90% of the emphasis is placed upon the diet. A bulk is only going to work if you train insane. Go crazy with compound exercises and building strength so you can maximize muscle growth without wasting those extra calories.

48) Eat as many fruits and veggies as you want. Red, green and yellow colors equal plenty of nutrition.

49) The body needs sodium. Don't under-consume salt.

50) Having a proper sodium/potassium balance is very important for overall health. Instead of worrying about salt, make sure you are taking in enough potassium.

51) Your body needs cholesterol to function properly. If you are eating healthy, don't obsess about your cholesterol intake.

52) Pound for pound the best bicep builders are heavy rows and pullups/chinups. Barbell curls are a good addition to these exercises.

53) Use a heavy compound lift and an extension when targeting triceps; for example...close grip bench presses and two arm seated dumbbell tricep extensions.

54) Dips and close grip bench presses are potent tricep builders.

55) Want big arms? Remember that the triceps makes up 2/3rds of your arm size.

56) Lagging traps? Try the combination of heavy deadlifts, power cleans, power shrugs, heavy behind the neck presses and heavy rows.

57) Don't discount fullbody workouts. Prior to the steroid era they built some amazing physiques. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger himself was weaned on fullbody routines

58) Heavy rows are the best rear delt builders.

59) Isolation exercises stalling and becoming hard to add weight without compromising form? Switch to a machine isolation exercise instead; one that allows a higher range of progression.

60) Perform your compound exercises first while you are fresh.

61) Training for failure is not necessary, and generally involves more risk than reward. Stop a set when you feel like you might fail on the next rep.

Powerful Bodybuilder62) Don't train with poor form. If your exercise form starts to deteriorates during a set, stop the set.

63) Performing the bench press with your arms flared out at 90 degrees is one of the worst things you can do for your shoulders. Being your elbows in to about a 30-60 degree angle, give or take.

64) Don't bounce bench press reps off your chest. This is dangerous in many ways.

65) Don't curl in the squat rack. The squat rack is sacred, and for squatting.

66) When bench pressing make sure your elbows are directly over your wrists. With your arms at a 30-60 degree angle from your side, this will help you find a natural grip width.

67) Close grip bench presses are NOT performed with your hands 6 inches apart. This is a good way to injure your wrists. Tuck your elbows at your side, and make sure your wrists are over your elbows. This will help you find the proper width.

68) Eating 180 to 240 grams of protein per day isn't going to harm your kidneys. Eat your protein.

69) Eat a variety of protein foods...meat, chicken, fish, eggs, milk. Each protein source has a difference amino acid profile, so variety is a good thing.

70) Lifting weights will not stunt your growth.

71) Creatine is a quality choice and has been extensively researched. Try it for yourself.

72) Work big muscle groups before small muscle groups.

73) If you are using a split, separate your shoulder and chest days as much as possible. Both are "pressing" days and utilize the same muscle groups to different degrees.

74) Beginners...rest as much as you lift. For every lifting day you want a day off. Your body is responding to the intense demands of lifting and you need plenty of rest and food.

75) Stop calling yourself a hardgainer. Focus on getting your bench press to 300, squat to 400 and deadlift to 500. Once there, look in the mirror and see if you're still a "hardgainer."

76) Muscle building takes years, not weeks or months. Don't forget that.

77) If you really want to learn something interesting, ignore how a bodybuilder trains now, and find out how he trained the first 2 years when packing on mass.

78) Train most compound exercises between the 5-12 rep range. Heavy weight works best with moderate reps.

79) Train most isolation exercises between the 8 to 15 rep range. Lighter weight isolation lifts work best with a few extra reps.

80) Muscle soreness is not a be all, end all indicator of workout effectiveness.

81) Beginners...stop focusing on "the pump." A pump won't help if you're using wimpy weights.

82) Eat some protein 60-90 minutes prior to lifting, but don't train on a full stomach. Use whey protein if you have to.

83) Enjoy the journey.

Seated Cable Rows

84) It's ok to insert your favorite exercises as long as 80% of your workouts consist of potent movements.

85) Taking advice from a lifter without personal experience is a risky journey. Do your homework.

86) Be careful about trusting Internet advice from someone who doesn't have up at least a picture, video or some form of valid credentials.

87) You never master form on the big lifts. Remember that. The heavier the weight, the more challenging keeping proper form becomes.

88) Overhead presses are not inherently bad for the shoulders, but doing 5 bench press variations while ignoring overhead presses is.

89) It is generally better to perform compound movements before machine exercises.

90) Don't look for ways to make your workout easier; look for ways to make it harder. Embrace the most challenging exercises!

91) Never perform cardio before your weight training. Save your energy for muscle building, and when done do cardio.

92) Performing cardio after lifting? Consider giving your body some protein in the form of a small whey shake before hitting the treadmill.

93) Ignore the nonsense that all supplement companies are to be ignored. Some fringe products are certainly hyped, but that doesn't mean all supplements are without value.

94) Add volume after you've already built a fair amount of strength.

95) Add advanced training techniques like drop sets and slow negatives after you've added a fair amount of strength.

96) Don't trust everything you read on the Internet. Even this article. Research and try things for yourself.

97) Don't discount upper lower splits.

98) When looking at bodypart volume, consider weekly sets. You could do something like 9-15 sets one day a week, 5-8 sets twice a week, or 3-5 sets 3x a week.

Cable Curls99) There are no magic number of sets and reps.

100) How many sets should you do? Use the "one hour guideline." As long as you are training hard and keeping your workouts around an hour, you will be performing a sensible number of sets.

101) The stronger you get, the more using higher rep sets for compound lifts becomes a solid way of training for muscle building.

102) Don't be afraid to take a complete week away from the gym every 8-12 weeks. You won't shrivel up and lose all your muscle. In fact, you'll heal some nagging aches and pains and probably train better when you come back.

103) Intermediate lifters can use a lighter week every 3-4 weeks. Call it a deload. This will allow you to go hard and heavy for several weeks, and then take a lighter week to recover.

104) How wide should your squat stance be? Get in a position like you were guarding someone in basketball and check your foot width. This should be about your squat stance width.

105) Do not squat with your knees forward. Knee angle should match toe angle, and toe angle for most is about 30 degrees. During squats your toes and knees should never be pointed straight ahead.

106) Believe in your workout plan. If you won't trust it will yield results, why are you using it?

107) Eat when you're hungry. This is simply good old fashioned common sense.

108) Snacks in between meals don't have to be complicated. Fruit, protein shakes, whole milk, almonds and nuts, string cheese, protein bars and beef jerky are all simple but solid choices.

109) Start with the basic supplements...a quality multivitamin, fish oil and whey protein. Once you are consistent with your training and making gains, then you can explore things like pre-workout formulas, BCAA drinks and creatine.

110) There's a good chance if you're an ectomorph that you might benefit from more frequent lifting. So try out a fullbody workout.

111) If you're very overweight focus on training hard and getting stronger while dropping the fat. This should be your main priority.

112) Overweight lifters who are trying to lose fat should not train with lighter weight and higher reps. Switching to lighter weights signals they body that you no longer need as much muscle tissue.

113) True plateaus take years and years to reach. Gains always slow over time. If you're adding a couple or reps to a lift each month, you're not stalling.

114) Leg presses are a good exercise, but they are not better than squats. If you want a great leg blasting tag team, use both.

115) Log your workouts. You must use some system of training your progress.

116) Avoid unmotivated training partners who are always late or rarely show up. Surround yourself with motivated people, or no one at all.

117) If you can't do bench presses because you have no spotter, use dumbbell bench presses instead.

118) If you're going to train to failure, do so only on your last set of an exercise.

119) Never waste a set. If you aren't pushing for as many reps as possible, there's no point in performing the set.

120) Always try to improve. If you performed 7 reps for an exercise last week, try for 8 or 9 this week.

Dumbbell Curls

121) When losing fat, rapid weight loss usually leads to rapid muscle loss. Try to lose no more than 1.5 to 2 pounds of fat per week.

122) Be careful about trusting advice focused around extremes. Most lifters are in the middle, and not utilizing extreme training or dieting practices.

123) Understand that natural muscle builders will never get as big as steroid users. It's a fairy tale to believe so.

124) If you are unsure about squat form, use goblet squats for several weeks to get the feel for the exercise.

125) Ignore extreme claims such as: "Gain 2 inches on your arms in 2 months with this bicep blaster", or "pack on 10 pounds of muscle in 4 weeks." This is simply nonsense created to get your attention.

126) Use straps if you have to on rows and pullups. Never let a sub-par grip hinder your back training.

127) Want a stronger grip? Try 30 to 60 second barbell static holds in a squat rack.

128) Never perform a compound exercise without first performing a few non-taxing warmup sets.

129) Train your abs last. They are a small muscle group. Blast bigger muscle groups first.

130) You don't need to train abs every day. 1-3 times per week is plenty.

131) So what if you're tired. Workout! Odds are you'll feel better when you're done, and the quality of your performance will most likely surprise you.

132) Don't be afraid to train opposing bodyparts together - chest with biceps, back and triceps. Variety can be a good thing.

133) For fun, finish a bodypart with a pump set. Blast it with a 20-40 rep killer set before moving on.

134) Lagging body part? Try a 7-14 day blitz. Hit it with 10 sets per day, every day, using moderate weight. Then rest that bodypart completely for a week.

135) Limited with time? Try rest-pause training.

136) Hammer your shoulders! It's ok to use more than one pressing movement per shoulder workout. Stop babying your shoulders.

137) Eat first thing in the morning. You're body has been without fuel. Kick start your day with some quality fuel.

138) Eat frequent protein. This has been the staple in bodybuilding for decades, and has never let a lifter down to my knowledge. Eat at least 4 protein meals per day, with 5-7 meals being optimal.

139) Use the "shake and bake" rule post workout. Have a whey shake immediately after training, and 30-90 minutes later eat a whole foods meal (something that is baked/cooked, etc.).

140) Eat your protein before bed. If you're not up for whole foods, drink a casein protein shake.

141) Don't miss meals. Don't miss workouts, don't miss meals...seeing the big picture?

142) Frequently tired? Use a pre-workout formula to give you an extra workout boost.

143) Workout during the time of day when you have the most energy, or when you are least likely to miss workouts.

144) Hate veggies? Dice 2 handfuls of spinach and then sautee in a frying pan until wilted. Spinach reduces down to virtually nothing, is tasteless, and can now be added into nearly any dish. Quick and easy veggies!

145) Ignore haters and detractors. Stay away from people trying to keep you from reaching your goals.

146) In a rut? Try something completely different like a 10x10 workout.

147) There is no need to frequently test your max. Get out of this habit and focus on muscle building.

148) Stop believing that days off are wasted time. Get a life outside of the gym.

149) Attend a local bodybuilding competition. This is a great motivator, and it's cheap!

150) Train like you are expecting to be lifting at age 70. Beating yourself up occasionally is fine. Hard training is hard. But don't overdo it. Get in, work hard and get out!

Man, this really hit home.
Never knew this about Henry Rollins. Thanks for sharing.

19 Tips To Improve Your Lean Bulk Diet
Muscle Man Eating Food
It's time to build size while remaining lean. Bodybuilder Brad Borland presents 19 rock solid tips to help you keep your body fat levels in check while gaining mass.

Does this sound like you? “Yeah, I plan on bulking up, getting bigger and stronger and then when the time is right I’ll lean down.” How long will you bulk? When will the time to get lean kick in? Do you have a plan?

When I go to the gym it seems everyone with interest in building a maximum amount of muscle is in a perpetual bulking phase. You’ve seen them – they wear pants, sometimes long-sleeved shirts and rarely do a sit-up. This “one day I’ll diet down” mentality never seems to connect with reality. The mere thought of losing an ounce of bodyweight will translate into a reduction in strength and a risk of people calling you small. Oh, the horror!

Would you rather ride the roller coaster of bulking and cutting or slowly build solid muscle on a lean frame? I think I know the answer.

So, why do so many trainees fail to even think about the long term? A reduction in body fat (which will become a reduction in bodyweight) will conversely make someone actually look more muscular.

Just look at professional bodybuilders. In the off season they carry as much as 20, 30 and even 50 pounds of extra weight on their frames. But when they diet down and strip off the excess, they have ripped, cut, huge physiques that impose a much more impressive product.

Now, I know you may not have aspirations of becoming a pro bodybuilder but your drive and vision for your physique do draw similarities.

Below are 19 tips for lean bulking. These 19 actionable items will help you pack on real, solid muscle without the added fat and unsightly “bulk.” Stay lean, add muscle, ditch the pants and never be afraid to take your shirt off at the pool again.

Lean Male Physique
Tip #1 - You must decide what you want

Be honest with yourself and decide if you are in this thing to be stronger or build an impressive physique? Most of you reading this are here to pack on lean muscle without the unnecessary body fat to cover it all up. So, it is up to you: stay bulky but strong or leaner and more muscular?
Tip #2 - Think more muscle (not strength)

Of course strength is an integral part of any progressive program. A lean bulk shouldn’t be void of an emphasis on strength as well as other quantitative factors, but strength shouldn’t be the only tool stressed. In order to add quality, lean muscle you must think in terms of just that – quality, lean muscle. Strength (although still important) will take somewhat of a backseat.
Tip #3 - Watch those carbs

Any talk of staying lean isn’t complete without mentioning carbohydrate. The main point here is to start looking at carbs in a whole new light. Instead of packing in as many as possible in hopes to add as much weight to your frame as you can, think of carbs only to fuel your body.

Recuperation should be the main focus for your carb intake not excess numbers on a weight scale. Keep track of carbs, ingest most of them around your training sessions and that’s it. If your body is fed properly and needs more energy it will eventually tap your fat stores.
Tip #4 - Get through “the wall”

For many dieting efforts are quickly thwarted because of a myriad of reasons, namely the quick weight loss and apparent strength reduction. Do not despair; this is a temporary side effect of reduced carbs. Since carbs attract water, a reduction can cause a loss of fluid shocking your system into a sort of alarm state. This is temporary due to the fact that once the body returns to homeostasis, it can then balance out its hydration and gains back its muscle mass and strength. This “wall” can quickly be climbed in a week or two.
Muscular BackTip #5 - Focus on protein

As with many dieting strategies protein will still need to take center stage regarding your diet. Amino acids that make up whole proteins are the true building blocks for adding lean muscle mass. Whole food protein along with a good whey protein supplement will ensure all bases are covered.
Tip #6 - Fat is your friend

Since you may be experiencing a reduction in carbs this may also potentially be detrimental to aspects such as satiety, energy and a general sense of “I miss eating whatever I want.” Healthy fat can be your savior in times like these. Not only can it fill the carb void, but it can also increase satiety and provide sustainable energy without adding the extra baggage.
Tip #7 - Rev up the weights

Does your training go like this: Do a set, rest, do a set, rest, and on and on? Get out of your tired old box and do some things you aren’t used to. Bust through plateaus, experience new modes of training and learn a few new moves that will pack on new muscle.

Try some power moves, supersets, high reps, compound sets, high frequency training – the list can go on. The point is to get outside of your comfort zone and start seeing real gains again.
Tip #8 - Fiber, fiber, fiber

Yes, I said it three times. This is the long lost ingredient in a lot of diets. Of course we all know the health benefits, but fiber can also provide that much needed satiety (like healthy fat) when we need to reduce carbs. Additionally, fiber is needed for proper protein digestion.
Tip #9 - Go green

Going had-in-hand with fiber, green leafy veggies are a must on any muscle building plan. Packed with fiber and a host of vitamins and minerals, leafy greens are another prerequisite for more muscle without the fat.
Tip #10 - Look for the positive

Having an individual or a group of friends or family for support can go a very long way regarding your success on any plan. Having like-minded people around you will only strengthen your resolve to accomplish your goals. Find someone on the same path as you, set goals together and help each other along the way.
Tip #11 - Feed muscle, not fat

When starting any new eating plan (except for cheat meals) always think of the food you are eating as fuel for muscle and its function. The leaner you are, the more the food you eat will support muscle and less will be stored as fat. The belief of gaining fat in order to gain muscle is one of the most common misconceptions around about gaining muscle. The truth is it is easier to gain lean muscle when you are leaner – the body doesn’t have to work overtime to tuck calories away in fat stores.
Tip #12 - Cheat when everyone is looking

No one can sustain a perpetual diet state forever for several reasons. One; you’ll go crazy and two; your metabolism will say it has had enough and will slow down to conserve energy. A scheduled cheat day or two will rev up your metabolism and support your lean bulking ways.

Ripped Male Bodybuilder
Tip #13 - Cycle carbs

Another great way to ward off a slow metabolism all the while tactfully helping your body to pack on the mass is to cycle carbs. A simple way to do this is to go medium or high on intense training days and low on off and cardio days. This way you will provide carbs when it’s needed the most and cut them back the rest of the time.
#14 - Keep track so you can adjust

How can you get to your goal without a plan? And what is the execution of that plan without a little tracking along the way? Write down what you are doing: sets, reps, meals and moods. This will be an invaluable tool when you reach your summit and look back at what worked and what needs to be tweaked.
#15 - Add cardio and get unique

If you’re not performing some form of cardio, start. Too boring? Try the countless styles of HIIT training. Sled pulls/drags, kettlebells, sprint intervals. These will all keep you lean and won’t impede your muscle building efforts.
#16 - Hydrate, for real this time

Another “duh” point but one that is rarely practiced. Much like fiber and fat, good ole fashioned water can keep you satiated throughout the day keeping you from overdoing the whole carb thing. Also, as stated above, you need to keep the muscle cells properly hydrated for function and support.
#17 - Lighter (leaner) is bigger

Have you ever seen someone that is big, bulky and strong only to see them months later ripped up and it seems as though they look like they’ve gained ten or twenty pounds of muscle? They may have dropped 50 pounds but they look freaking huge! When you get lean, you give off the impression that you’ve gained lean muscle. In reality you are lighter – maybe considerably lighter, but your fellow gym goers will think the opposite – trust me.
#18 - Keep your goal in sight

If your goal is to gain lean mass then train, eat and sleep toward that goal. You will encounter roadblocks (physical and mental) but no one said it would be easy. Stay focused and never waiver from your physique goals.
#19 - Believe (you will succeed)

Whatever you decide regarding your ultimate goals believe in what you are doing. Believe it will work, believe in the process and believe you will get there. No one else will do it for you, you have to have faith in yourself.

ive been a bit lazy lately and fell back into old habits. i started making excuses once the kids started school and quit running and working out. i did start back up this morning. i can tell the dif its made. right before i quit i was able to run a mile in 6 minutes with one quick break. this morning it took me 10 minutes and 4 breaks.

back at the beginning....

Obviously someone is STILL crying over the rating and the fact i nigg'd em (I could see your post when i was banned and not logged in).

But Im not here to feed trolls, im here to get strong and help others join me :hi5:

Today is my GAINS DAY (workoutday).  Ive still been doing my FULL body workouts every second day.  Im also running 2-4times a week, and i still bicycle more then i drive my truck.  Havent missed a workout in couple months now.  All my weight and reps is increasing at a nice rate.  Feeling a lot stronger and looking damn good shirtless haha.

My workouts change every time too, only thing i do every workout is my warmup and planks, chin ups, and pushups (weighted).    I bought a chin up bar recently (been a while since ive used one).  I suck at the bar atm.... for a guy who does 250normal pushups/ 150 weighted ones, i suck at chin ups (i can do 4 in a row per set. lol).  In a month or 2 i should be able to bang out chin ups like i do push ups.

Well i better get dressed and ready for this 1-2hr workout, then a nice hike/run after.

Remember : the first 10 mins of every workout and run sucks.  If you can make it past that 10 mins the rest is easy!

Your actions have a inpact on the people around you....  Since i got back into eating clean and fitness, my wife now runs 2-3 times a week.  my brother in law is lifting.  People on the chat including Koopa, drawde, sleepaid, are all starting to workout.  So by living healthy your giving others the strength to do it too

Stretching out before I play some disc golf. I took the dogs for a hike, but it's hot out, and they are babies. I might hit the little gym here in a bit.

Hell ya dude.  I love hiking too, i used to take my dogs on long ass hikes all time time, in the country.  They were great motivation to get outta the house and keep active.

Do you take anything before you exercise or workout?  like caffeine or a preworkout stim drink?

I usually take 300mgs before i lift, and 200 for a run.  With the heart pumpin from the caff and tunes pumping in the ear buds im a machine.  Its way cheaper to buy the pure tabs on ebay (500 x 200mgs for $16) then buy the chemical drinks with caff

Keep at it dude.  Lifting and cardio get easier and easier each time.  Its cool seeing yourself get stronger and faster every week.  Even if its only a few reps at a time more then the last workout:thumbup:

Ya I tore my left chest muscle about 3 months ago.... fucking killed.  Coughing and laughing hurt.  Took 3 weeks to heal... fucked up my lifting routine for a bit

Ive been taking circumin (turmeric extract ) for a few months now.  Its amazing for inflammation (sore and injuries) and much more like positive benefits (google it).

I killed a 2hr heavy workout yesterday, ran afterwards, and biked for a hour last night.  Woke up just a lil stiff and went for a run (months ago i woulda been sooo sore then next morning).  I feel that this turmeric extract has a great effects for an active lifestyle.  I used to get super sore after workouts, now im just stiff a bit (I fucking kill it too!!).

The only supplements i really take are curcumin/turmeric ext.  (1gm a day), Spirulina (5-10gms a day), fish oils and magnesium.

Superfood FTW!

I was close to buying a bottle of capsuled turmeric today. Figured there's a better place to get it other than a vitamin/supplement shop.

I got a bottle of milk thistle though. My liver could use the boost.:crazy2:

Its a rip off in stores... i bough 50 grams of PURE Curcumin (Tumeric extract) on ebay for $20.  I capped it myself and saved a bunch of cash

I JUST got yesterday this off ebay....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/191545164059?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Great price on 400 capsules!!  The extract is way better for supplementing then the raw spice.  Only problem is the body has a hard time absorbing the supplement.  But black pepper has a chemical that makes it aborb WAY better.  And taking it with a oil like a omega or coconut oil

About to kill a sat morning workout.  Wont be able to do much leg work today or any cadio (legs are still FUCKED from my weighted hill climbing challenge).  Im a lil lazy from edibles kratom and a couple beers last night, but nothing caff and water wont fix.

Getting alot better at chin ups!!  when i got the bar i could do 3-4max.  now im maxing out on 7.  I usually do chin ups every workout before pushups, i want to be able to do 5x10 every workout.  my last time i went 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+6+5+4+3+2+1 (reps), trying to get my max reps up.

Its raining here atm.  This is my fav weather to run in.  The paths are empty and u can really push yourself when its not hot and sunny.

1200 views!! :dancer: .  The reason im putting all the time into this thread is, it will still be here long after i decided to leave this site (or stone finally gets his perma with my account).  There is and there is gonna be alot of good info in this thread.  I hope it helps others (even people who find it on google)

back on topic....

So on Saturday i was just finishing my chin ups and i was swinging my arms around in a stretch and ended up SMASHING my bad knuckles on the corner of the basement frame HARD!

My left has just healed from my mountain bike accident (fucked up the tenons in my left hand after flying over the handle bars and landing on my hand) this happened 2 months ago.... took 6 weeks to heal).  The tendon kept POPPING outta place and if it did not tighten naturally the doctors would need to do surgery (2 months in a cast, 3-4 month physio after to get range of motion back) .  Luckily for me after wearing a supported hand wrap for weeks it DID tighten, and i was almost healed....  till i smashed my hand and felt the tendon pop out again.  FUCK THAT hurt!!!!

So i skipped my workout and iced my hand all day.  The next day it didnt pop at all but felt stiff and was black again (full of blood).

So i decided to take a few days off and let the hand heal and not fuck with that tendon any more then i have to (fuck 6 months to recover!!!)

So yesterday I did cardio (killed it!!), and im gonna do cardio today too....  Its cold outside (+6 right now).  But i bought gear for the change of weather,  nice warm but light winter pants, a nice army beanie, and gloves.  Cant let the change of weather stop me!!

I  MAY join a gym with a track this winter....  id rather run outside (more to see and more places to go) but it might be nice to run indoors this winter!!

I might lift tomorrow if its feeling better.  Lifting heavy ass dumbells (45-60lb) is hard on the hand!  Last thing i want to do is fuck it up bad again!!

Hope everyone is doig well.... Dont stop getting stronger and leaner (im down 30lbs in 4-5 months now)

:hi5:  Hell ya dude.... keep at it!  Just remember that eating clean is more important then lifting.

I know a few guys who can lift sooooo much weight and been working out for years.  But they drink pop daily and other crap and look JUST FAT.  Diet > Exercise

Killed an awesome workout tonight.  had to take a few days off because my back was super tight for a few days.  It was Best to hold off till it felt better.

My chin ups are getting super easy, i can easily do double what i could do in a row that i could when i first got the bar.

My planks are simple now too 2 normal ones for 2 mins, and 1.5 mins per side.  Might have to bump it up 2:15's and 1:45's next workout.

feels good when workout that were so hard before are a breeze (getting stronger every time)

Keep at it boys.

I lugged a bunch of heavy grow equipment to the new place, if that counts. My dogs have been sick all weekend, so I haven't done much hiking. I'm still breaking 15k with the pedometer, but it's usually +30k.

i just googled it, looks beautiful!

Just finished my workout today....

~50 Jumping jacks

~20 Burpies (with a push up, and jump each rep).

~ Planks x4 (2mins x 2 normal ones and 1:45x 2 both sides).
Planks are super important.  they build a strong core like no other exercise.  You need a strong core to get strong.  They are amazing if suffer from back pain too (like me).  Strong core= strong back

~Push ups 150: 25 close grip , 25 wide grip, then put on my 25lb vest to kill 100 more, 25 x 2 close grip, 25x2 wide grip
I use my big dumbbells for my hands when i do em,  allow u to go deeper and better for the wrist

~Jump Squats: 50lbs 13x4 (squatting down deep, explode into a jump)

~Bent over rows: 50lbs 14x4 (After 9 reps i was struggling, but i did it!)

~Leg lifts: 20x3 (gotta have a strong core)

~ Dips : 15x4

*for a while i was doing push ups and chin up every workout.  But now that my chin up reps are higher im gonna alternate.  Pushups one workout, hit the bar the next, etc.

*This was just todays workout.  My workout changes all the time,  i never do same exercise as i did last workout (cept jumping jacks and burpies AND PLANKS) .  My reps and weights always change too.  I do high reps (4x10-15) and low rep/heavy weight (5x5-10).

*Dont try and match or compare to me or anyone.  Im 6"2 190lb and muscular. When i started i was weak and wasn't close to as fit as i am now.  The only person u should try to out do is yourself, the week before!

I seriously was doing 10 pushups x 4 when i started working out again, keep at it and it gets easier and easier.

Now that i ate, im gonna about to go run (still wanting to cutt 5 more lbs, lost 25lbs of fat already!!)

EDIT:  FORGOT TO PUT PLANKS

I slept like shit last night.  another sore and achy night...  Drinkin a vegan protein shake (filled with good nutrients too) and taking supplements : turmeric extract, peppercorns, omega 3's, and spirulina.

I like being sore (not injured), this way you know you ripped up the muscles GOOD!

Core work: Dont spend much time on these.  Unless u got like 6% bodyfat and want your 6pack to pop.  Spending too much time on abs/core is a big mistake guys make when they first workout

Planks are the bomb for strengthing the core

I wanna join this gym... haha

Good info.  im deff the middle one...

What % do you want to be?

I'll just make a short summery:

I've been up and down with healthy eating and and exercise for about 4 years now.
In that time I have lost about 80 pounds.

I got heavy back into it about 10 weeks ago after being rather lazy for the last year.
I start most of my days with 10-20 minutes of yoga, then usually mediate for a few minutes, then about 5 minutes of calisthenics.

At the gym I do cardio on the tread mill or bike, free weights, machines, all kinds of shit.
I also like going to a local park with looping trails through the woods, and so 2-6K, up some nasty hills and shit.
I recently started doing a hub/spoke ruitine: kettlebell swings are the hub, do a set in between spokes (pushups, crunches, Russian twists, ect) so you do a set of swings in between what ever else. Switch to goblet squats two days later and repeat the cycle ( so three a week)

Hell ya CV... kill that shit.  Losing 80lbs is deadly too.  Great job   I do full body workouts too.

I worked out for 2hrs today (lazy from edibles, but i did it).  Then i did 10kms in the trails.  Found a cool app that show my average speed and top speed, how far ive gone and more.

super lazy now.  I love this feel :paradisiscoolwhat:

Yeah I over do it sometimes for my size ( still have a good 40-50 pounds to lose) and just have no energy at the end of the day.
I wanted to go back for another hour this tonight but I'm just spent and need to work early.

I bought 500x200mg for under $20 on ebay.  They sure give you that energy burst to kill workouts.

I also work about 50 hours a week, one job night's, one job very early ams, so my sleep is always wonky; I got like 10 hours last night but will get less then 5 tonight.
I go hard on my days off or when I know I can get a lot of rest.

Cod liver oil
Garlic oil
Green tea extract
Raspberry keytones
Super B complex
Royal jelly
Cinnamon
Cayenne

My diet mostly consists of:
A mix of nuts and dried cranberries, raisins and dried charries
Greek yogurt
Eggs with hot sauce
Cheese
Bananas
Apples
Raspberries
Broccoli
Celery
Carots
Hummus
Broccoli-grape salad
Bolthouse juices
Meat
Tacos and beer

I've really cut way back on the simple carbs but shit man, tacos, pizza, beer and pussy make life worth living.

do you take any supplement (or superfoods) at all?

Cod liver oil
Garlic oil
Green tea extract
Raspberry keytones
Super B complex
Royal jelly
Cinnamon
Cayenne

My diet mostly consists of:
A mix of nuts and dried cranberries, raisins and dried charries
Greek yogurt
Eggs with hot sauce
Cheese
Bananas
Apples
Raspberries
Broccoli
Celery
Carots
Hummus
Broccoli-grape salad
Bolthouse juices
Meat
Tacos and beer

I've really cut way back on the simple carbs but shit man, tacos, pizza, beer and pussy make life worth living.

hell ya dude , you sound healthy!

Nothing wrong with enjoying the good things in life.  But with everything moderation is key

I went for a physical today.  Everything was Great.  Went to take my weight and im at 184lbs (im 6"1), i dont even own a scale so this is the first time ive used one in a while....  I was 212lbs 6 months ago, so im down almost 30lbs (of fat) now.  Been working out every second day, and running 3-5 times a week, so ive been working hard at it

I feel im at a good weight and size now for my height.  Now im gonna focus more on building up my muscle rather then cutting weight.

This was just confirmation that living healthy is the best way to lose weight.  i havent weighed 180ish since i was 20yrs old.  Feels good man :hi5:

fuck ya.... i take the extract twice a day.  Its my secret weapon.  Great for soreness , pains, and injuries, and much more!!!

Ive also read it makes muscles heal faster and stronger.  It also increases testosterone levels in lab tests in rodents (maybe humans too?)

Im on team turmeric and spirulina  :paradisiscoolwhat:

fuck yes!! I got sick over the weekend and made a little concoction made out of turmeric, ginger, honey and boiling water. It really helped.

Did you know it also increasing the burn time of kratom!?? Supposedly if you take some an hour after dosing it can increase the legs of your burn.

I usually take the little concoction that I typed up there before dosing kratom and I noticed those burns are far more intense than normal.

I've been thinking of adding coconut oil, never read anything about the benefits of turmeric before, I'll have to look into it.

PO- I've got about 40 more pounds to lose before I start serious strength training. I do more then I should now, really, but I hate cardio. Besides the more muscle you have the faster your body burns fat. This winter I will do more cardio. Just miles and miles on the treadmill and jumping jacks between calisthenics probably.

My arms (muscles) are shaking right now like i got ms... i tore those muscles up good.  I love heavy day

Not sure if im gonna run or not yet.  I love running the trails (i live a 2 min walk away).  Im trying to get my stats better.... I wanna run at least 1 10km next summer.

Losing 28lbs of fat feels amazing in so many ways.  Got more energy.  Its sooo much easier to run now too.  feels good all around.  when i pick up a 25lb plate and i realize i used to carry this on my body all day... unreal

I was pretty sore this morning but after munching hard all morning and lunch i was feeling much better.  Been reading about BCAA powder and how its like the ultimate recover stuff for muscles. Its basically just amino acids u drink in water... tasted funky but i like to think they will help with those killer workouts

Just finished a 10 run + a huge climb (my usual)

Time to refuel and then shower

ill post some pics too....

Getting rippedis this easy.  Just stick to it and you will feel great, and look great!

Get to it then. My weight started going down as soon as I cut out most meats from my diet. I've also been replacing sugars with other alternatives and that seems to help as well.

Good on you old woman.

Yo Paw, soy isn't really good for dudes; it can increase the amount of estrogen your body produces.

Remeber; veggies are free, you can have all the veggies you want.
Celery increase will increase the amount of testosterone and pheromones your body produces.

Cutting simple carbs and is key to wieght loss; but some sugar is better than chemical sweeteners; they confuse the liver, same with margins verous butter, real is better, just hold back on portions.

good job paw.  I lost over 30lbs now.... cutting sugar and just EATING CLEAN helped the most.  fuck white bread, pop, fast food, processed food, and candy, etc.  Just eat REAL foods (meat, nuts, oats, fruit).  I dont drink cows milk either... just coconut/almond milk

my labby has been broken for a few weeks so i havent been on this thread, its kinda fixed no so ill try n keep it going.

Im still killing workouts every second day (and working full time).  I stopped cardio/running because im at a good weight for my height (175-180lbs) and im burning cals at work all day.

Todays workout:

100 jumping jacks

25 burpies

2:30+2:30 front planks

2:00 + 2:00 side planks

5x6 chin ups

5x3 pull ups (gotta work on these!)

10x4 weighted lunges

55lb rows (13x4)

25x2 Supermans (strengthing my lower back)

4x10 Dips (with 2 chairs and 25lbs)

then more jumping jacks and burpies as a cool down

My workouts are full body ones... they work the best for me.  Im not a fan of splits.... i like doing the full body every second day

Ive been doing hardcore full body workouts for 6 months and its deff paying off... im looking nice and cutt, strong, and lean

Keep at it my friends.... it pays off!!

POs dead, mang.

Theres a HUGE mob syndicate located in Canada and these guys own pretty much all sales that deal with kratom. Once they heard about PO tapping in on their middle aged lonely house wife market, they lost their shit.

I ride bike a little bit when there's no snow, around 100-120 miles a week. I also walk my dog everyday once the snow is gone 3-5 miles per walk.
I try not to eat junk food, but I can't resist some peanut M&M's every so often. I don't drink any pop or energy drinks.

Damn, 100 miles a day, that's some serious riding lol. I'm going to try to get in a couple 50 mile a day rides this summer. I'm shopping around right now for a new mountain bike, I'm having a hard time making up my mind on what brand to get though. I want to have two bikes so I can road ride and trail ride this year.

Well not 100 miles EVERY day, I imagine their rides ranged from 40-100 miles a few times a week. He was serious about it though. I'm pretty sure he has tapes of every tour de France from the past 30 year lol.

That kind of riding takes serious investments though, to him a $2000 bike is cheap shit.

This one fat know it all Fuck at work was talking about his $800 bike frame.
I told him I got a whole bike for free.
He told me how much better his bike frame was than my bike.
I pointed out I could ride my bike, and he couldn't ride his frame.
It was a good day.

Fuck yes, got my new bike today
2016 Cannondale trail 2 29er $1000 out the door. Pretty happy with this purchase, definitely not a top of the line bike, it's just entry level. Been riding around my yard and up and down the street, this bike feels pretty comfortable. It's fairly lightweight and has air adjustable rock shox with remote lockout and has hydraulic brakes.

Damn, that bike is badass! Do they have jumps setup on downhill too? There's a couple ski resorts somewhat near me, I'm going to check out if they do that bike racing in the off season. I'd like to watch, I've never seen downhill racing before.

Where I'm at its mostly state hunting land with hundreds of miles of off road trails and two tracks.

Yeah that bike is cool for technical courses like Holister. The shock has 8 inches of travel. I also have a Santa Cruz with 10.5 inches of travel for courses like the Kamikaze downhill in Mammoth Mountain in So Cal. They have jumps depending on the course and how fast it is. The Kamikaze is just trying to get down as fast as you can sometimes hitting speeds over 60mph.

Give it a try sometime it's a blast. This course is open to the public in the Summer.

huge jumps in this vid

I love downhilling

hell ya man.... im ALWAYS SORE!  I killlll my workouts. I do 3 full body's a week (2hrs). plus run 7-10km , once or twice a week too.

Along side with always being sore (I love sore muscles), I get injured on the reg too.  I just work around it the best i can.  The worst was tearing my chest muscle last fall.  THAT FUCKING HURT!!!  COughing and moving around caused so much pain.  Took 6 weeks to heal...

I injured my shoulder 3 weeks ago.... still sore but ALOT better.  Ive just been working through it and avoid exercises that hurt.

On saturday i had a pain in my ankle during a run.  i ignored it... by the time i got home i ran 8km and my foot/ankle was killing me.  hurt something in it, ever time i stepped down it killed on the side of my foot...  it was sore for 4 days.  Just getting better now.  Cant wait to run again!!!

I take a ton of supplements so i heal super fast.  My body builder friends all do split workouts.  I do fullbody.  so i hit some muscles 3x a week, they only hit em once a week.

I eat Soooo clean, and give my body everything i can to heal it as fast as possible.

See I don't have an exact regiment that I follow but for the most part I run for about 2 miles, work on my arms, legs, and abs every trip. I wanna look chiseled but im a lazy ass and don't really like taking supplements.

Havent tripped since last summer, but got a half sheet recently.... im stocked up when im ready (harder with a baby finding the time)

My diet is ON POINT... i eat super super clean right now.  basically only REAL food (nothing packaged).

As for supplements....  Omega 3's, curicumin (my secret weapon), spirulina, BCAA's, megnesium + zinc, vegan protein , and melatonin at night.

I also use preworkout mix or caffine (300mg) and ephedrone (16mgs)

Im thinking of doing a cycle of serms.  They are legal and cheap and been hearing lots of good things on gains and results

Nice, I found this connect with some clean ass WOW. Im speechless at how smooth and beautiful these are. I was microdosing at school and it's insane at how helpful low doses of lsd can be.

I'm assuming you don't retain fat as easily as fattys like me and po?  Just eat high protein and get a lifting routine together. Getting "bulky"  if by that you mean like,  meathead muscular, the  it's really an irrational worry. Muscle mass takes a lot of time to acquire, you could take steroids and lift regularly and still end up with a less than bulky physique.

If your skinny and have a hard time putting on muscle mass, it all comes down to diet. Eat more calories and more protein, simple as that. It can be hard to eat enough calories to gain weight on a clean diet so supplementing with protein shakes is an option.

I'd you mean you don't wanna be,  bulky, as in a fat guy. It's all about cutting out sugar completely, it's needless and addictive, and only fucks up progress. Stick to leaner meats when you can, and don't avoid carbs but don't go overboard with them as well.

The only thing non-food related that I can personally attest to helping gain muscle is anabolics.

People use creatine and supps more along those lines, but I personally don't have much experience or success with that kind of stuff.

Just killed a 8k run on a windy day..... love that post cardio high.  First mile sucked (like usual), but after that i was not there mentally :pimp3:

I workout mon, wed, fri, and weekends are for healing and cardio.

My run ritual :  Eat clean carbs (energy nigga!!!) and protein (Build muscles nigga!!).  Then pop 200mg caff and 16mg of ephedrine .... 50 mins later smoke a small bowl and then its GO TIME

Tomorrow is another full bodyworkout day.  Lots of chin ups and pull ups too.... been doing dead lifts lately.  Didnt realize how fun they are to do.  , and how much they workout the body.  Great exercise!

killed my monday workout:

-200 Jumping Jacks (50x4)
-40 Burpies (10x4)
-2 Min Planks (x4)

^This is my warm up (i do this every workout)

-4 SLOW pull ups (5 sets)
-6 SLOW chin ups (5 sets)

-160lb Deadlifts (10x4)
-120lb curls (curl bar)  (5x5)
-55lb DB ROWS (10x4) (both arms)

Cool down:

-100 Jumping jacks (50x2)
-20 Burpies (10x2)

I really gotta work on my pull ups and dead lifts.... But you gotta work at your weaknesses to make em strengths !

I also took 300mg caffine before (my usual), and had a nice vegan shake after with lotsa supplements

I broke my pinky toe recently, but I'm still getting 12-20 miles a day. Other than some work around the house, it should be a relaxing weekend. My dogs get lazy as hell when the weather is bad.

goddam thats alot of miles.... nicely done!

Ive been giving it hard all week after taking it pretty easy for 2 weeks (traveling and sick)

Im gonna give'er shit for next 6 weeks and try and make some nice gains.  Im taking lots of supplements right now and experimenting with a sarm cycle for the first time.  Hoping to gain 5+ lb in this 6 week cycle.

Im focusing alot more on heavy lifts and doing shit like deadlifts now.  Ive always been into heavy dumbell im now getting into heavy barbell shit

Ill take some pics soon of my personal gym i made in my basement too
