250-300 will handle 6 plants no problem. Assuming no loss in pressure you're looking at 300 GPH = 5gal per minute /6 = .83 gal per plant per minute  so you would need to figure out how to either time the pump for the exact time you need to deliver the appropriate amount of feed or you need an emitter to get it close to that amount in a 5 or 15minute duration depending on your timer.

I prefer ebb and flow over drip, but you can do 16 site (4x4') or 36 site (4x4') with a 400. Doing some experimentation and math to figure out how much your pump is actually delivering in x amount of time is a good idea of you want a precise amount of feed. The bigger your array, the more sites, the ID of your hose, and if you're using a drip regulator/emitter are going to effect this number when using the same pump. Drip emitters are good if you want the same volume going to each of your plants, having a symmetrical array is going to help but it won't be perfect.

So you set up your array and run the pump with just water and catch all the run off until you hit a known volume say 3 or 5 gals in a bucket. You time this and you can figure out how much water each plant is getting per minute. Alternatively you can also catch water from each site in a jar or something to see how evenly it's watering. Knowing this isn't vital but can be used to really dial in your garden. If you drip to waste coco and just get some run off each watering you're going to be golden.
