Might have tobacco mosaic virus
    #744004 - 08/15/14 09:52 AM (9 years, 8 months ago)

So some very fucked up problems are happening on the foliage. Spots and yellowing happening all over on my chems and seeing similar issues fucking everywhere. I'll post pics when I'm around WiFi. If it.is tmv I need to kill everything and sterilize and.start over right? And its caused by my tobacco plants outside right? Which also need to come down?

Pretty much that shit is fucked up.

If they have it then yeah but it can be caught from other plants or ways. I had it about 10 years ago and the last thing I'd have around is tobacco plants.

My tobacco looks very healthy. It's just the cannabis that has this coloring. I cut off everything that looks remotely spotted or warped and will burn that shit on the grill. How did you get rid of it? And more importantly prevent it?

Wow I never read about that. Very interesting. The first* virus ever discovered in the 19th century apparently. I feel like that's the kind of thing you start to think you have once you read about it.

Edit: I said "only virus" but I meant first. maybe the only one though since it was discovered in 1892

Especially with me that's a huge possibility it could be a variety of things but it's for sure killing my foliage slowly but surely. Not sure why my HTC one can't upload pics but my shitty burner does. I'll get something up today for diagnosing pleasure.

From what you describe it doesn't really sound like TMV.

Not TMV.  Fill out the questionnaire.  It's either too much nutes or not enough by the looks of it at this point.

Good to know someone doesn't think it's fungal or viral. Has to be under feeding since I'm just feeding teas. I'll submit the questionnaire.

Soil Growers:

1. Are you growing from seed or clones? Clone

2. How old are your plants? 3 months since roots

3. How tall are your plants? 12" tall but trained with low stress to stay squat

4. What size containers are they planted in? 3 gallons cloth pot

5. What is your soil mix? Pro mix

6. How often do you water and what type of water do you use and how much you give per watering? Scrubbed tap water with growonix filter every 2-3 days about 32oz of water each time

7. What is the pH of your water? 5.9-6.1

8. What kind of fertilizer do you use and what is its NPK ratio? Organic tea diluted to 400-500 ppm usually 2500ml per 5 gallon feedings

9. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything? Yes compost tea, neem, azamax, and floromite when I finally give up. Spray as needed in 4-6 day rotations as needed for mite control. Have used Stylet oil as well but only twice in veg tops.

10. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights") 600watt of mh for first 2 weeks then turned ballast to 1000watt only 2 lights on in that room of 2 3x6 trays 2000 watts total at the moment raised 30" above plants.

11. How close are your lights to the plants? 30" with glass

12. What size is your grow space in square feet? 10x10

13. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space? 76f and up to 75rh

14. What is the pH of the soil? Buying soil meter today

15. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space? fucking spider mites always just sprayed floromite yesterday

16. How much experience do you have growing? 4-5 years

Will post tea recipe in a sec

I only just learned what tobacco mosaic virus is and I'd say that's it. Apparently it's a really fucked up virus that spread easy, and you should burn EVERYTHING! jk, but uh probably should keep every inch of soil and plant matter away from any new clean grow environment. apparently even pieces of dried tobacco can carry and give your plants the virus.

Edit: Oh you guys don't think it is TMV? that pic above looks similar to pics I saw yesterday. Though you would need to see earlier symptoms to distinguish it. I think.  I don't know I'm no expert.

1tbs fish
1tbs kelp
1/4 cup dry compost ( ew casting, humus)
1tsp oregonism
20ml tappin roots
10ml hi brix
1tbs sea 90

Makes 3 gallons of tea that I dilute in water to 400ppm. I feed this one every third watering. Recently added some bio zeus to get trich in the tea after thus started happening.

5tbs nitro guano
16tsp tappin roots
25 ml ancient earth
6oz vermaplex
6oz kelp
1tsp oregonism
1tbs sea90
10ml hibrix

Dilute to 500ppm and feed twice then feed other myco rich tea once.

Oh I assumed you were saying you had the same problems with your tobacco plant. well I still just see TMV when I look at that.

If I were you I'd try adding some all purpose fertilizer. Though I'm sort of guessing that you don't have enough P and K and you should probably listen to them over me. I don't think I've ever successfully identified any of my own plant issues.

Yeah it sure as hell looks like tmv but I'd love to hear it just a lockout or deficiency since that's an easy fix. Did a top dress of guano on the chem and new growth is looking better but could also be the lack of mites since floramite spray.

Is this starting at the bottom the plant and working it's way up?

For starters your pH is too low, you should be using about 6.8-7.0 in soil.  For how old your plants are, the size of container they're in is pretty small.  I would assume that all the nutrients in it have been used up and you aren't giving them enough food at this point.  Kind of looks like Potassium deficiency to me.

Soil "technically" I don't think promix is very nutritious is it? Basically all nutrition is provided by the ingredients and concentration provided by the tea dilution at 400-500 ppm. Should I up the ppm, change formula or switch back to aqua flakes as a base which I've had success with in conjunction with organics? Would like to succeed with home made teas but don't want to gamble the plants.

Well there's going to be a learning curve when switching from manufactured nutrients to something you are putting together yourself.  I personally prefer to use teas as an addition to my regular nutrient line up.

If all your other parameters are in order, pH, then I would start upping the PPM, after a flush.

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and made up another res of h and g base. The New foliage is looking good after the guano top dress. What deficiency do you suspect that was? Micro, macro or could I possibly have locked something out rather than not supply enough?

Like I stated in the above post, from just recalling it I think potassium.  But deficiencies aren't always caused by just a lack of that element in the soil.  Other imbalances can cause a plant to not be able to uptake other nutrients.
