Poppy DWC project
    #706763 - 01/12/14 08:00 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Saw a cool thread on indoor poppys in a sterilite tub I've been wanting to replicate. I sprinkled some seeds on rockwool and just now got some sprouts happening. Have single lilac, and Turkish  2 cubes each. If I can get them to the cabbage stage I'll post up some pics.

Yeah I ran a few strains outdoor last year and failed twice with indoor several months back. Pretty sure I know the mistakes I made. I'm fairly certain if I can thin each cube to a single healthy plant to cabbage it'll make it through to the end.

1 2' 4 bulb t5 fixture and add another if they sprawl out a lot. Should be plenty just need to mind the schedule which seems like the finicky part.

Growing slow but getting there. One cube has a couple sprouts and the others show signs of germination but also look dry like they didn't make it. Wondering if rockwool in standing water is too much moisture. I'm giving them natural sunlight in cubes during the day and bringing in at night for now.

Thinking about starting another batch of cubes. I thought the cold would help but I'm actually seeing much slower growth than I did last spring. Going to give some heat after they germ.

Here's that link. I'm planning on using the same idea but a single bucket per plant and going to feed for what I assume would make for optimum growth.

The seedlings in the rockwool are not doing well. My sprouts in soil that were planted a week later are shooting past the hydro sprouts. May have been too moist so I bought them a separate clone dome with a mesh insert to keep them hovering above the water below. If they don't start taking off I'll try again using coco planted in the 6" mesh bucket lid I plan on them living in while growing.

Super slow growth. Not sure what's going on unless my starter mix is fucking things up. The single lilac is going the best and about half the sprouts dampened off. What's left just popped the second set of leafs. 62 degrees average in the house and they are on a 12/12 schedule still under t5 lighting.

Its weird they are so hard to grow indoors.

Yet outdoors I just sprinkle seeds, and just water.... and they grow fast and healthy.

Ive never ran into a problem doing em outdoor.  but my indoor experiment was a flop this winter

Yeah I'm guessing they are just very sensitive to their light schedule. I'm going to keep trying though. Next I think I'll just sow seeds directly on coco or hydroton already in the mesh bucket lids and kick on the irrigation as soon as they seem like they are taking off.

Indoors just may be impossible. Like clockwork they dampen off after the second set of leaves pop the little hairs. This is the 3rd time. Going to try again next week with a new approach and probably a new strain too.

Have you ever read the book by Robert Neil Bunch called Hydroponic Heroin: How to Grow Opium Poppies Without Soil?

I personally have not read it. But, it looks like some well documented information on hydroponic poppies.

It hasn't turned up on any torrent sites I know of. It is available on Amazon for less than 20$

I would love to see how successful hydro poppies cam be.

I put some more effort into finding that book.

The link provided at the end on this reply is to a torrent of a collection of Opium books.

Hydroponic Heroin : How to Grow opium poppies without soil
is one of them.

The books in this torrent are:
Hydroponic Heroin : How to Grow opium poppies without soil

Opium - Poppy Cultivation, Morphine and Heroin Manufacture

Opium for the Masses - A Practical Guide to Growing Poppies and Making Opium

Poppy - The Genus Papaver

The Morphine Alkaloids

Torrent Link:

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the link dude but I'll just buy the thing if at all possible. To much E-herpies out there to risk it. For sure into the read just to get more definitive nutrient requirements for optimum alkaloid production.

Ok im taking another whack at this idea. I picked up some 4" rockwool cubes with a hole for a macro plug which im going to fill with coco and sew seeds into that. If they get to the cabbage stage ill put the cubes in buckets.

Good Luck... On my first attempt 3 years ago i started 2 indoors on 12/12 due to space. They grew well under 400 hps at the time up to cabbaging i guess you'd say, lol... I ended up putting them outside to flower when the days got longer and got ended up with great blooms. I was in shock. 1st time go. All from some organic bread seed poppy. Amazing Plant and enjoyed as much as my other hobby. :rastamon:

Still no germination from those seeds. I got these from san Diego wild flowers I know they should pop in my current inside weather just fine. Maybe too old or poorly stored I guess. Try try again. This time with freshly collected Persian white from a couple weeks back.

Hey PO any news on your end?

Ill buy from a shroomery vendor and get 4 types and they do all look different. Not sure about alkaloid content but I do like growing the various types. I'll do a patch of McCormick though Fuck it. Wonder what strain they use.
