New to growing
    #674296 - 06/12/13 05:25 PM (10 years, 10 months ago)

I already have a few seeds of OG Kush, I was planing on doing a 1 plant grow with a water culture setup out of a 5 gallon bucket. I have the hydroponics thing down but, for only 1 plant what size light should I get if I have 4 reflective mylar walls? Also how much and what kind of fertilizer do I need for the veg?
Thanks guys.

Somewhat contradictory statement.

I'd go with a 400 watter but you can get away with a 250 for 1 plant. I just don't like less then 400 watts for anything.

As far as the nutrients Pure Blend Pro is a good start and if you fuck up they don't burn your plants.

Thanks man, Im not completely new to the forums though, Ive been on the shroomery for quite some time and have done my fair share of mushroom grows but and I decided I would like to give cannabis a run for its money. Nice to know the growery has some friendly's. Im not going to lie I  was expecting some less desirable responses but I guess I was wrong. Thanks again man!

That's probably because I'm a dick :cookiemonster:

But I would recommend reading as much as possible.  Get book on both marijuana specific and general gardening, I can't emphasize that enough.  It will pay off in the long run

Some people like cfl bulbs. Myself I hate the fucking things with a passion and don't think they have anyplace in growing.

I lookd around for for lights and all I find is either the bulb its self or the kits kits and most of them are around 2-300$ and to me that seems pretty steep for a single plant, what would you say the cheapist aproach to lighting?

Look at it as an investment.  Your not using it just once.  You will get countless grows out of it.  Check out rvf garden supply.  They're a sponsor and will give you an extra discount since you're a member.

How much do you pay for an ounce?  Then think about how much you can grow after the initial investment.  This is a more expensive hobby than shrooms.

I have a 180 cfm blowing exhaust and a 10x12 vent at the botom of the door, all I really was worrying about right now is the lighting situation

How big of a space?  We may as well try and hash out as much as possible.  The more we discuss things, and get details hammered out, the better chance for a successful grow.

Also ventilation should be tied in with what your thinking about using for lighting.

I have a 6x6 closet half of it is for my mushrooms, I was thinking about making a 3(L)x3(W)x7(H) tent for my plants using either PVC or Wood

lighting and ventiliation go hand in hand.  dont wanna buy a light you realize is just going to be too much because you havent calculated how much venting you need.

i did that before, had to send my whole hps/mh setup back.

So what are you saying? Also, Im not worried about smell but would this help with the smell? http://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-Compact-Purifier-Permanent-HHT-011/dp/B000N9CPQK/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1371237197&sr=1-2&keywords=air+ionizer+purifier

Im saying pick your lighting, dont buy it, figure out the amount of ventiliation you need/ have space for.  THEN buy the light and the fans.

That will cover some of the smell, but it wont be full proof.  It depends on how big your plants get and sometimes its strain dependent

I know 200wt will be enough, I will be growing only 1 plant, just for me, in a 3x3x7 which is about 70cf, I already have a 160 cfm fan, do I need to down size?

Remember that you are going to have to make the enclosure light proof.    The fan should be bog enough for that space.  But more is always better.

I would use PVC if your going go make it yourself.

No you don't down size.  You need a minimum of at least 2-3 times your cf exchanged every minute

I was thinking about using 3/4 inch plywood for the outside and a mylar film on the inside

Then all wood could work, but you need to make sure that you use a sealant on all surfaces first.  And painting it flat white will be better than mylar.

Good to know, are you talking about water sealed or air sealed?

Lol, I mean use a sealant.  Like a laquer  type.  To keep moisture from getting to the wood
