multiple plants one container
    #668196 - 04/28/13 09:52 PM (10 years, 11 months ago)

My first couple plants that I am experimenting with have gone through quite a bit of stress and I think I want to replace them with these girls from outside.

My seeds were bag seed and came up all females... I know I may have some issues with bananas during growth and that I want to keep them as stress free as possible. If my goal was to grow these pretty small and to flower somewhere around a foot tall could I just leave them as they are to avoid the stress of digging them out and separating? They all have about 2 gallons of soil each in this laundry basket. Or would it be best to gentle separate and individually pot? I know feeding will probably be a pain in the laundry basket since liquid will seep out of the sides but if I pour really slowly I guess it could work out... what do you guys think?

edit: p.s the are just coming out of my accidental flowering I believe

At a foot tall you could probably get away with it with just two gallons per plant but you're gonna be pushing it and overall yield may be effected.

Hmm so it's okay to have holes all over the container like that?

Wondering how that goes with the no-see-thru pots rule

Cool thanks for the replies. I think I'm gonna give it a go.

I think the holes are ok because the roots will be air trimmed.

Question: I most likely have fungus gnats in the substrate. I've read that you can soak your soil for 20 minutes to drown them, does this also kill eggs and would it be worth doing before I brought them inside?

I have a feeling fungus flies are gonna be my worst problem with this set up... to many holes to barricade them with d.e... I guess azamax is the go to product?

Also, how do you guys feel about a small amount of aspirin in water for your plants?

I have heard good things about aspirin in water.

I recall that among its benefits is that it ameliorates the
effect of broad mite toxin, IIRC.

Good luck,

JD

I may try it out at one 81mg to a gallon. I read a little bit about people using it to induce herming though. I wonder if lower doses are at risk of that?

I'm thinking about doing one more LST of the main stem before I flower. Is it wise to allow the new shoots to grow before flowering?

The more you let the new shoots grow the more bud you're gonna have.

Read up on the gnats there are many ways to get rid of them. They mainly effect new cuttings and seedlings when their larva eat new growing roots. Once the roots have gotten big like on a large plant they don't effect the health of the plant.

Any input on the discussion over here? Mainly the last couple posts.

Should I just flower them now if its a lot of trouble to reenter veg?

Oh, fucking please 6 months to start to reveg. (commenting on what I saw at the Shoomery) Bullshit on that one. I had a full room of plants way way way back in the day (80's) and I turned the lights back to sex the plants. (I was still learning) Well we sexed the plants but it took close to 3 weeks to start to reveg or as it's actually called revert.

The plants will have 5 bladed leaves the 3 the back to single blade leaves just like when it was a seedling. Once back to 1 bladed leaves the the process starts back to normal again. 1 blade the 3 then 5 and so on.

I don't post shit unless I've actually done it, if I haven't done it I'll be the first to say I can't comment on the subject cause I haven't seen it with my own eyes. :wexican:

Maaaaaan don't make my lazy ass take pics. I'll come clean with ya I actually have plants reverting right now. :crazy2:

haha I'm glad I asked. I thought it seemed odd. Thank you for clearing that up.

I guess I'm almost there then, I've got a lot of single leaves. Do you think since I'm on that stage(the single leaves) that I would be better off letting them revert back to 5 before flower? I probably shouldn't veg them out to much more anyhow.

Thank you again for the expertise :sun: :willynilly:

Nah, the blade number don't mean shit. Go by the size of the plant and your growing space, or personal preference to determine when to flower. :potleaf:

Wait for the authorities to arrive :0) but I think that
those are at least a month from done.

I forget the breed....it could be a lot longer.

Good luck,

There are some rough indicators that you can watch for, but use a
small hand-scope (40X or so at a minimum) to check the little resin
drop on the hairs.  They go from all clear to all amber, passing through
a cloudy stage that is the desired state to harvest.

The pistils will tend to be turning red.

The leaves will begin to die back.

All vertical growth stops.

There are many heuristic indicators....I use them all in my newness. :0)

Good luck,

JD

Thank you for the infos.

I'm surprised how well they are doing as well. You should have seen them when I first started flowering. I neglected the heck out of these girls and didn't really expect to do anything but compost them. They are showing me what these plants are capable of and teaching me a lot along the way. :willynilly:

Not really trying to turn this into a grow log but thought I would show

I never really intended to take these this far and they weren't fed or phed until way into flowering and entered flowering looking really crappy but it looks like they may bring me some medicine after all

I can't wait to get back to a regular container, this laundry basket is a pain to feed and water... I think I was a little slow to feed them for the second time so a few lower leaves were cannibalized but they are actually much greener then this picture under red T5's lets on.

Anyway send them some vibes if you want :sun:

Wow im surprised they didnt choke each other out.. No with that being said the there will be red hairs on the buds. Some plants start turning red or brown from the bottom up, Some from the top to the bottom.Depending on the strain. The more red hairs you have on the bud the more of a lethargic stone you will get. I pick mine when about 60% of the hairs are red and glowing with crystals..Good Luck And Happy Growing

they've been though a gauntlet of torture but I haven't observed any banana's unless they come and go very quickly.

I did notice a bee playing around on my plants about a week ago...

The strain is San Fernando valley og kush sativa variety and I read they are an S1 of ghost's og whatever that means... so maybe that leads to higher herm chance... I did get the seeds from a bag of very potent meds

Hopefully I get some viable seeds out of this I really enjoy the strain and don't mind herms. I plan to make oil

Unless the bananas eluded me I dunno. I've been looking at them everyday but I have a newb eye I thought I saw pollen sitting on one of my buds a couple days ago but I combed around and saw no banana. How long do they usually stay visible?

I'm excited to get back to a convenient normal container  :hehehe:

If I took these plants that are growing inside under T5ho, on 12am, off 12pm and put them outside at 9am 9pm would I cause a lot of shock? I'm not to worried about late herming, is that the only risk?

I had this idea too.

I now have two old, opaque monotubs, with polyfil cloth covering the holes,
in my backyard.  One has Basil in it and the other a Tomato plant.

I call it my kinda-smart pot.

Should I pull these down?

It seems like they have still increased a little bud size in the last week but their leaves are almost completely eaten. There are some very small thin dark green leaves still but very few.

I haven't picked up a scope yet, I cut a couple others because some of the nugs looked like they were getting sunburned. I may have waited to water and feed a bit late a few times... I also think I slipped up on the ph again, towards the end.

Damn I am surprised by how good it came out...super sticky and potent  Smells like candy and fruits! very smooth and tasty in the vape 5 nice pulls and I am well medicated  :stoned:

Here's the yield from the 3 smallest of 9 plants. Not to bad imo

maybe I'll stumble upon some of the seeds that were developing, didn't spot anything while cutting them down. Do they sometimes fall out? edit: I'm sure they do just like any other plant

I need to get different LST string... yarn leaves little hairs everywhere.

These dried in my tent for 3 days before I put them in a jar. The stem still has bend to it but I figure since they are so airy they can finish drying in an open jar

laid them out to dry a little more just in case.

These two pics are from four of the smallest ones, the high really is incredible. Fresh organic buds :sun:
