Indoor / 1000w HPS & MH / Soil / HOG, MAUI, CCM
    #658907 - 02/14/13 11:08 AM (11 years, 1 month ago)

This is my first ever grow!

2-8-13
  2 x HOG,  2 x CCM,  2 x MAUI
1-2" tall, only a few leaves
  Placed under T5

2-14    10pm
HOG has several more leaves, looks bushy already
5 of the six look great
One Maui leaves dieing so trimmed them all leaving one teeny tiny green leaf poking out.  We will see if she can focus on that one to survive....
  Planted in large buckets
  Watered with food 200ml each
1000w MH bulb on 3ft away
Need humidity badly - sprayed walls inside with water

2-15    8am
  Green and happy looking
Leaving light on - need to figure out how many hours
      24?  18/6?
Baby clones & light
You may choose only one

2/25
Thanks for telling me how to post pics!
The one next to the white cup is how they started ....the clone was the same height as the cup two weeks ago....

Added a humidifier to the room yesterday, maintaining about 30%, so am picking up another one today....

Maui is not growing, at least not that I can tell
HOG and Malawi are doing awesome!

Light lowered to approx 2' above tallest plant.
Maintaining 75 degrees.

Looks pretty good man.  Those plants are to young for food IMO.
Also, how big are this containers?  They look a little to big for your babies.
What nutrients do you plan to use?  What is "CCM"?
Good luck and keep up the good work :-)

CCM - Chunky Cherry Malawi

The containers are big, not sure of size.  That will be their one and only transplant, so not sure why the size of container matters?  Please, I honestly don't know anything!  I am a 30-something chick that just tried marijuana for the first time a couple years ago.  Now I want to learn how to grow the most quantity of the best product that I possibly can. .

Guess that should go in my bio, huh?  Lol
Anyway,  not sure of the nutrients, will have to.check later....

One plant is at least 7" and started two weeks ago at 1".  I think that's pretty decent?

What else should I know?

3/3/13
Watered today at 1:00pm, during dark 6 hours.  The T5 stays on 24x7.
Growing a bunch every day.  I'm just sitting in my grow tent at 40% humidity and 83%.  Kept humidity up to almost 50% for last two days because I'm doing laundry and exhaust warms up this storage room.  So anyway...

CCM #1    12"
CCM #2      8"
HOG #1      7"
HOG #2.    7"
MAUI #1    4"  (if that)
MAUI #2    no sign of life

I spray the inside of my tent with water before I leave each time I visit.  Sometimes once a day, aomwtimes more.  Trying to keep humidity up in Colorado is very difficult!

The buckets are huge and the plants are small.  Should I water all that dirt around them?  They will not dry out for days?  The buckets are a foot across and a foot deep.  I have been watering just by the stem because my partner said to water 200 ml per plant.  I'm just not sure since these pots are so huge compared to the roots of the plants?  Should I check Ph first and then water or can I water straight from the faucet?  I will soak these girls the next time they need water if that's what they need.....

They are all growing at least an inch per day.  (I estimate).  Measurements today...

3/11
CCM #1 - 21"
CCM #2 - 17"
HOG #1 - 10"
HOG#2 - 9"
MAUI - 4+

I have never grown anything.  How big is the root system below my plant that is 21" tall?  Is it a tight ball of roots or are they spreading throughout the whole bucket?

Now I know the CCM could be turned now, or soon.  What about these indica that are spreading.out more than tall?  Should I wait to flower until they are all close to 20"?  I have been told the stem will be like a wood pencil, sturdy.  They are.getting there...... Wow, this medication is awesome.  I wish I could get these seeds!
Wow
I.sure rambled on tonight.  Help me out if you so please, I would appreciation it!  I'm going now... Signing off....

Dude.. They will STAY small until you do. But u can save on water and nutes I guess o.O

If you want roots to grow in the whole pot, water ALL of the soil. Do it slowly since its super dry now - prolly wont absorb well.

The stems will get sturdier almost all the way through flowering.

200ml per pot sounds ridiculous. I'm no pro, but I'm POSITIVE on this, don't torture your baby's!

They're supposed to take a while to dry btw. At first, I usually water once a week. But even when they're big, once in 3 days.

I can't wait till you do this lol, they will explode in growth.

Getting a bucket and watering now.... Maybe I can find a hose......  I was watering 200ml per plant, right around stem, EVERY 2.3 days.  They seem fine, but let me see if they are thirsty tonight.....

I didn't think anyone paid attention to my notes....

So anyway.....  Watered two.... Leaves are immediately sad because roots have to work now.... Silly me..... Waiting to water the other 3 until their bedtime tomorrow.... This way I will see how much extra these first two grow being watered this early before bed.... Here I am rambling again....
So, maybe I put too much thought into all this growing.  I should just plant em, water em, give em food and light, and they will grow......
I am gun shy because I had some clones before these that died..... I don't want to lose any more of my babies!

I know I'm probably not supposed to sit in here with my plants, and I mean literally, sit.... Brought a folding chair, my pipe..... I'm sure I'm contaminating my tent somehow, so I hope I don't regret this.......  I sit here and relieve my pain while I look at the plants.... Analyze them.... Do all stoners do this?

Maybe I should have warmed the water more.... I hope that water doesnt shock the roots!  See, I analyze too much....

Anyway.... I need to finish this bowl, set an alarm to water in the morning, mist the tent, go eat my lemon cake.... Yum......  Signing off....

How did your clones die? Well I dont know about all stoners but i hang out with mine all the time.I dont smoke cig. Just mj
so I smoke in my grow now and then  never hurt them yet plus more co2 right?

How cold was your water? My plants will wilt a little after watering if they get really dry before hand.

Well the first clones weren't technically clones yet because they didn't have roots yet.  They went through some extreme temp changes before they even started rooting.  From 22 to 90 within a few days.  Pretty much froze overnight....
These babies came with roots and were growing immediately.

3/12 watered other three (C2, H2, M)  8:30am.  Other two plants look good.  Lights turn off soon.

How big should I let them get before flowering?

They look wilted because they have no roots, so you displace the anchor by moving soil around.

They're small.

Just wait and see, you'll be amazed

Its up to you how long you veg for? But I think it it recommended to wait till you see pre flower then change the light.

If you're doing it with cheap-assed bagseed like you and I, wannabe!   But, if you have known clones you know from the onset what you have there's no need to wait for pre-flower to sex.  In this case you can flower from day one.  Now, I'm reading and learning and I know enough to know that not ALL varieties will respond positively to this treatment.  "Strain-dependent" is the term, I suppose.  Ultimately, part of the equation is that one must usually consider the ultimate height of the plant for indoor grows.  If you let it get 1' tall in veg and flower it you can be pretty sure it's ultimately going to want to be 2-3' (Sativas stretch more, no?).  Another is, how soon do you expect to harvest?  If flowering on that strain is 8 weeks and you want to have a harvest at the end of ten weeks ... well, you can do the math.  Another factor is method of grow.  Small trees?  SCROG?  SOG lends itself to vegging short and flowering early as I understand ....

Anyway, so many questions.

I noticed here and on other male-dominated forums how quickly everyone jumps on the new girl in the group.

Ramble away.  Regarding watering, I believe it's best to water deeply.  If you have small plants in large buckets, I think it's best to completely and thoroughly wet ALL the soil in that bucket.  It causes the plants to establish a healthy root system early on.  As the top of the soil dries, the roots are forced to reach deeper and deeper to reach the remaining moisture towards the bottom of the bucket.  This results in delayed veg. growth, I think, as the plant is investing lots of energy into building its foundation first ....  This is especially important in soil grows (doesn't really apply to hydroponics, does it?).  That deep root system will be far more forgiving when you mis-estimate the watering period.

Most soil-less mixes will dry and "cake" if not sufficiently moistened.  A mistake I've seen with potted plants is people not sufficiently PRE-moistening the soil before planting.  When that soil gets dry and caked water will tend to find channels and run right through to the bottom without hardly wetting any of the soil.

If you think you medium isn't sufficiently moistened throughout, it's probably early enough to de-pot and do so.  Mix the media like you mix flour and water.  I dunno though ... it's been two weeks ....

I saw elsewhere where someone submerges his pots.  I think this will def. work and is probably a good precautionary measure to make sure all the media is moistened.

Lastly, methinks it better to water in the morning so at least the top of the soil can dry out.  Then again I'm not sure and it probably doesn't matter too much.

This actually works.  Some people would rather be in more control of the outcome.  I have a friend who vegetable gardens and he is of the "let it grow and see how it comes" variety.  Well, I can tell you, there is a world of difference between his and my gardens in terms of overall quality and yield.  Then again, he gets all he wants and does a fraction of the work.

Be a good mama then!  Love and care for your babies and read all you can!

I wish I could.  I can't grow where I live so it's at my buddy's house, and I can no longer "hang" over there since his GF moved in.  :frown:

Analyze away but do it reasonably!   Anything worth doing is worth doing well, IMHO.  Regarding water temp., I figure room temp is perfect.  Don't confuse what you "feel" with what the plant might feel.  People have a tendency to do this with pets and plants.  Just keep in mind it doesn't think like you do.

3/20      53% humidity, 78

CCM  28"
CCM  27"
HOG  16"
HOG  16"
Maui  10"

I have to flower soon!
Been watering about every 2-3 days, soaked completely the last time.

I am expecting some seeds any day now, too.  So I want to plant seeds when I flower these....

Well, off for now....
Thanks for all the advice!
