Store bought bug sprays
    #631184 - 07/10/12 11:16 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

I recently came upon some "organic garden insect killer". The active ingredients are Rosemary oil, Thyme oil, Peppermint oil, and Clove oil.

I have 2 questions about this stuff:

(1)Will it actually be affective or should I got get something like Neem oil? (I am trying to control spidermites/whiteflies, and whatever other pests I don't know about out there.)

(2)Do I spray it on then rinse it off 20 minutes later like I would with the home made soap sprays? Or is this stuff safe to leave on without plugging up the stigmata?

No it will not be effective.  This will  http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B004CZ866E/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1341940835&sr=8-1&keywords=avid+insecticide&condition=new

I know it's mighty spendy.  But it actually does the trick unlike neem oil and all these natural bullshit products.

Yea unfortunately there's no way I'm buying that any time soon.

Even my homemade sprays at least control the populations, you think this stuff will help at all? I'm kind of worried it will burn the plants considering that it's a commercial product.

Also, gotta repeat that second question. Do I need to rinse this stuff off with straight water afterward, or does that only apply to my soapy homemade sprays?

Leave on for a day and rinse with water.  I would just use neem if these are you're only 2 options.  Seriously though.  The product I posted will actually get rid of them, not just control populations.

Well I recently bought some stronger spray that has neem and pyrethrins in it, but it's still hard to be meticulous enough and not miss a spot when I'm spraying. Also, 2 of my plants are getting pretty far into budding.

I thought I read somewhere about root feeding neem oil, does this work well?

What type of sprayer are you using?  Having something with a wand makes reaching those inside areas, and under the leaves, much easier.  Also, I suggest spraying somewhere you don't have to worry about over spray and treating within the reproductive cycle of what ever pest you are attempting to control.

PS I have heard people mention neem as a systemic, but am unaware how much of the science actually supports that claim

Here is on article I found with a quick google search

I've just been using the spray bottles they come in. I think another problem is all the plants in my front yard are probably harboring these pests as well, I'll have to deal with that too.

Thanks for that link.
