 grow room layout for next grow

Well I am about 4-6 weeks from harvest on my first grow. I am looking for ways to improve my setup for my next grow. I have decided to keep the grow area confined to one closet that is 2'x6'x8' with a shelf at 66". I am currently only growing 1 plant in there but have room for 2 decent sized (32" tall max) plants. I do NOT have a separate veg area. My goal is simply to harvest enough for my fiance & myself. I estimate that to be about 1 lb a year. If i give each grow 4 months that is 3 cycles (6 plants) per year. I am looking for any suggestions to help me make this possible.
What strains do you guys recommend?
Do you think this can be accomplished with the two 5GAL bucket systems that I have (once I add a 15-20GAL res)?
Will a 400w electronic ballast be sufficient?

a 400 would work perfectly, but i would honestly go 600 watt (in an air cooled reflector of course) that 200 watt difference gives you twice as many lumens... you get 50,000 with a 400w and 90-100,000 with a 600w. i think 600 is the best way to go, although i might buy a dimmable ballast and run a 1000w bulb at 4,6, 1k, or turbo as i need it 
i have a "large" sun hut. its 13.5 sq feet. 3 deep, 4.5 wide, 7 tall. i have one 400 watt light in it, and it works, but id really rather run a 6... DONT get me wrong though, if all you can get or feel like paying for is a 400 watt light, DO IT!!! you wont be disappointed. i think you just get happier with more watts  HPS is definitely the way to go no questions asked.

honestly this is gonna sound kinda fucked up but here goes. I actually have a 600w electronic auto-switching dimmable ballast. What happened was I ordered one of those cheap 400w "Made in China" ones from amazon. after they replaced it for the 3rd time they sent me a 600w and told me they have been having a problem with the whole shipment of 400w. They aslo told me to run my 400w bulbs at 75%. They told me if the bulbs burn out within 12 months they will replace them. I sent them an email about 2 weeks after having the 600w ballast & told them my MH bulb went out, so they sent me a 600w MH bulb. So, what I have is a 600w ballast, 400w MH bulb, 600w MH bulb, & 400w Super HPS bulb. I know kinda weird but it is working great
FYI that cheap ballast was branded by a company called iPower but I have seen the same ballasts with about 10 different names on them.

So you can put a 600 HPS in there? If so I would.

I am going to line the walls w/ mylar, get a 600w HPS bulb, & a better reflector. I am just using a cheap-o bat wing reflector now.
What about good strains to go with? I was thinking White Widow (Mr. Nice seeds Black Widow), White Rhino (Mr Nice seeds Medicine Man), or Trainwreck. How do you guys think these strains will do for me? Anyone had experience w/ them?

Go with trainwreck.....you wont regret it.

haha. I just emailed the people I got my ballast from and told them my 400w HPS bulb burnt out (it did not). I got a reply within 2 hours stating that my 600w HPS free replacement bulb is on the way. SWEET 
I told you guys the headaches I have went through with this company getting a good ballast but once they got me one, their customer service has been awesome. So, in the end I got a 600w digital ballast 400w & 600w MH bulb, 400w & 600W HPS bulb, & a cheap reflector, all for $150.

Oh shit. More good news. One of my fellow local growers just stopped by and gave me 4 black widow seeds. He stated that another local grower raised a plant and pollinated to produce feminized seeds (I dont know how it is done) but we will see. None the less free Black widow seeds. yay

hell yea man. i was actually just thinking about what to grow next. i decided on trainwreck and a jack herer (both from GHS) for my next grow later this year. i just need to figure out a better hydro setup.

i know our setups are similar andy hate the small res. I am getting a black rubbermaid tub (w/ lid), water pump, & digital timer. i am going to put a top feed from my res to two buckets and hook up a drain tube back to the res. I was advised to go with a digital timer for the pump and only have it on like 1 min at a time. he said gravity would not even out the water level fast enough if pump were on all the time.

don't bother with a digital timer. as many only offer a limited number of on/off cycles per day. go with a recycle timer. i have one that will do on times from 1 second-40minutes. and off times from 1 minute-8 hours.
