Flushing and drying out at day 16 of flower?
    #624753 - 05/27/12 07:42 AM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Recently I've been watching a Grow Sessions video of greenhouseseeds on their website, where they say they flush the pot when the plants realize they have to flower (to avoid toxic salt buildup), then dry the pot out for like five days "so the roots get plenty of oxygen", and then they push the EC up to 1.8 to really blow their buds up and continue flushing once a week.
Like a pretty much high control scenario where they push everything to the maximum, but still have to keep control of the salt buildup.

Does anybody of you do this?

i love those videos. i know what youre talking about.

idk if i would be comfortable doing that. i wouldnt let the roots get dry, thats for sure.

i wish they would be more specific and show how they do it.

I let my medium dry out a bit quite often and the plant seems to love it. Seriously, without much growing experience I had the impression she doesn't grow the fastest the day I watered but rather the day after when the soil is getting dry. I just wondered if I could do it five days in a row.
I think as soon as I'd see some hanging leaves I'll water it again to not overstress but she should be able to survive just a little drought.

Yeah if you try this watch the plant closely, I bet it needs water before the five days is up.
And ec of 1.8 is high as shit for hydro much less soil, and I've only had a few plants that would even take an ec so high.
I recommend flushing once a week anyway to avoid an salt build up.

I know it's actually not a good method, but I'd tend to water with fert water only sometimes and otherwise with normal pH adjusted water, I just hope this works out. I'm not planning on ferting the shit out of it like they do.

Woah!  That seems like a lot.  For someone like me it would be a HUGE pain in the ass.  That'd mean I'd be running at least 90 gallons of water per container every week.

My personal way to go is flush once halfway through flowering.  I don't use much in the way of nutes during veg, so I've found this to be sufficient.
