Banana peels seems to be what Donkey Kong is all about ^^.

But seriously: I'd only scrape the inside of the peel and compost that because the outside seems to decompose not so good. Read it somewhere.

The whole thing will decompose just fine if you have a proper composter.

On the grapevine I have also heard that many non organic banana farmers have very high toxic pesticide levels in their bodies because they coat the outside of banana with very bad pesticide so you might be getting a dose of that too.

I'm sure banana farming is pretty dependent on heavy pesticides, especially since people don't eat the peels.  But even that stuff has a half like, and is likely broken down by the time the bannana peel is composted

No, that would make it a lot harder to use the composted material.

you literally just scoop it out.  Even a pile of rotting leaves is essentially a compost pile.  The only difference with a drum is that you can more easily turn it, and give it better access to air.  Which speeds up the process

Exactly, it makes it easier.  I know you can just put in in a pile.  But containers help heat it up and expedite the process, getting you a product faster than the ground or pile method.

I just compost too much material for a container to be practical.  Right now I just pile everything in a few pits I dug, but hopefully by the beginning of fall I have some proper bins built

Edit: but getting back to my original point, even just throwing a banana peel in a composting ditch, it should likely breakdown by next season
