spider mite control with predators
    #615808 - 04/02/12 12:15 PM (12 years, 19 days ago)

I know there be some pros here.
Does anyone here have firsthand experience with using spider mite predators?
I want to know how effective they are and are there any downside to using them?
Im thinking of either getting predator mites or ladybugs.

Can they give nasty disease or bacteria to plants if used?
Once they eat most of the spider mites then what?
Can it be harmful to the eco system?
This is for outdoor and greenhouse plants.
Can the predators overwinter and come back next year or will I have to get more?
Any other questions I cant think of?

Thanks

I've used them and they do an okay job.

No they can't give your plants any diseases or problems.  Once all the mites are eaten they actually start cannibalizing themselves.

No they wont hang out over the winter and be ready for next year.

I've personally found that I prefer to use something like AVID instead.  You feed it systemically once and then forget about it.  As long as you don't use it to close to the end of flowering you're not going to be smoking anything bad for you.
