What you think is good money for an hours work?
    #485818 - 10/07/10 11:03 AM (13 years, 5 months ago)

what y'all think?

Ive been thinking college is the biggest fucking waste of time of my life. I currently make $30 for 40 minutes of work and I can work on my schedule.  Only thang is it isn't the most reliable job but it makes me wonder why I'm even wasting my time getting a degree when I can already make decent money doing my own thang........  :volcano:

Working 8-10 hours a day I'd be happy with $10 an hour. I prefer to work shorter days, 3-6 hours for ~ $25 an hour.

I'm skeptical whether or not you're actually here in town because I've been hanging out on the corner by the stop light and haven't seen you all day. regardless, we can chill and smoke and be cool but greenbow custies is mine :FattyNoneck:

Well if your life is about the acquisition of currency then yes, college is a waste of time.  If you wish to learn something, expand your knowledge base, seek something other than material possessions then college is good.

I'm sure I could make bank giving guitar lessons and doing computer repair, shits second nature by this point.  But the shit bores the hell out of me, well not guitar but teaching it to beginners probably would.

A college degree makes you valuable to a wide variety of sources; even companies that have nothing to do with your major or career field. You make more money just for having a degree

If you really want to give guitar lessons all your life, then go for it. But I would still at least get a degree so maybe you can get a more stable job in the future.

I think what thebats was referring to was the fact that you dont need a college degree to be a CEO or a millionaire.  A large knowledge base is usually required though.  Society rewards useful innovation abundantly.  Just gotta find that right idea and be able to execute it with profit in mind.  And ya, i work for one of those bastard companies.  :megacrankey:

I already can get a lot of offers for full time jobs even though I do not yet have my degree.  Making yourself marketable is the next best thing to selling drugs I reckon.

True true, but I wanna be playing shows in the future maybe, not be working some 'official career' job lol, not that those are bad but I just don't relate to most of them - except maybe opening a restaurant , marijuana based theme park, edible company or pro cannabis shop, but I think all of those need more intuition than anything but I agree it's better to have a degree than not which is why I am doing it.  For right now though it is feelsgoodman for me that I can give some lessons and bank some loot while I'm goin to college and trying out other stuff. But yeah it's not what I want to be doing my whole life but the pay is nice right now and it's pretty easy for me.

I tried starting an ebay business too but their fees have gotten insane so I can't do that but I'll probably still sell some shit when I can but it was the wrong idea thinking I could make money selling everything.      these jobs aren't the most stable but I don't know what else I'd wanna do.  When I'm in college too long I feel like I'm just forcing my self to be there as I really don't like the academic structures but that said- there are some classes I dig like the meaning of life course - it goes perfect with a few bowls of weed beforehand.

the problem with all those ideas is that they cost money to get started. You're not going to find investors to throw down a couple million dollars for one of your ideas unless you have a more respectable background than "guitar teacher."   I make anywhere from $50-$75 depending on my job right now, and there's just no possible way I would have landed any of those gigs without a college degree. Plus, those are basically entry level pays for my career, with advancement and promotion of the company (both internally and externally) I could be looking at a significant income.  I've heard your story from countless people, and basically it all just boils down to laziness and lack of ambition

I have ambition, but not really for the corporate/business world.  I  like the prospects of do it yourself business ... but  I'm still going for a college degree though, cause I think it's def better to have it than not.
