ya, the cake was sittin a little wierd kinda diagonal so i picked it up to see if a piece of perlite was under it and thats what i saw! 57 shrooms! i've counted a total of 75 pinheads on that one cake alone, this was the first time rehydrating them, still learnin about growin shrooms, its my first time.

Remember to wipe every thing down(work area surface) clean the syringe after each jar(wipe with alcohol). When making prints is the time to really be clean. I would recommend a pressure cooker(PC) for the jars, I know there is a boiling tec but I prefer a PC to make everything sterile. I am with FurrowedBrow, if I can do it then anyone probably can. I bathroom or closet that has been cleaned up a bit(vacuum, dusting) will probably work for the most part. Wash your hands with some disinfectant hand soap is a good idea before hand.

I can fill it up with the next harvest. You should see some of the epic harvest on the shroomery. I am planning to go to bulk growing pretty soon. I just set up a new incubator to handle quart jars. The one I had before could only handle pint size jars.

You know one of my biggest rules for shroom growing is constant airflow. Yes I could fan a few times a day but my big thing is to mimic outdoors as much as I can. I found 2 decent ways to do it with both cakes and casings and the second I went from just fanning to full airflow the pin count went threw the roof.

I have your Poor mans pod already and thinking about the martha. I kind of got an idea of putting small computer fans in my fruiting chamber to run off a time as long as I can keep the temps in the right range when they kick on. Thinking like 30 sec to 1 min every hour or two. I need to start up the pod again, just have to clean it up since I have not used it in like a year or two, pretty much since I quit doing cakes, but I do remember how my cakes just exploded in it.

nice, I'm glad i just read that part, because i didnt know they needed the airflow, just rigged up two cpu fans as air intakes, and cut a little exhaust hole in the far corner, so lets see what happens!

that's what i usually do, with monotubs of course. They are simple, imo. I still have a martha set up somewhere around here. I just had much much better results with a monotub. I, like magash said, also like the constant air flow. I would attach a humidifier to the monotub in the center and the airflow seemed to increase the size of the shrooms. Here's an example in this picture. notice how the shrooms in the middle are much larger than the others and as the fruits got farther away from the immediate air stream they got smaller. I don't think that's a coincidence.
you can see where the humidifier is pushing out the air on right side above the shrooms there^
top view, you can see how much bigger they are in the center there^
and again
dont give me any shit about the fucking spores being released. I waited an extra day before harvest so that I could drive to vegas for a show. No time to take prints of the bigger ones before i left.

That's most likely polyfill instead of cotton it lets air through and not contams.

Well, just from growing quite a few cuttings, of all different kinds of plants, I can see if I were to hook up a cpu fan while they were rooting, or needed the humidity after being shipped so you could manually adjust to your environment, hooking up a cpu fan when they need it, probably blowing directly on them, I just see that as being enough to dry them out if they weren't introduced to it in the first place. I see mushrooms in this case, being a very close scenario. You should probably remove the fan and just poly fill it.

Basically: Air comes in from the fan faster than your humidifier can make up for the lack of humidity coming from the air intake. Better?

the humidifier IS the fan though, there are no cpu fans, only the humidifier blowing straight in.

I still think it has a lot to do with changing the climate while they were already fruiting. If the air was blowing directly on them too, that makes it worse, and is possibly the reason they dried out from not having that before when they started, even if the humidity was right after the change.

is there a way that i can adjust this, so that i can still use the humidifier to keep the box humid, but without the wind drying them out? for now, i just stuffed the holes with polyfill and gave the cakes all a nice misting and now there chillin, they may come back but if now who cares its only the second wave of w/e. plenty more to come.

I'd say give it a shot with another cake, or even a half of cake if you are thinking its a risk, you can cut the cakes and fruit both parts.
A climate change while they are already fruiting was a bad idea in my opinion and would have killed plants also.
If they would have pinned under those conditions, and the humidity was not bad, they would have been used to having the wind on them. Switching it up to something not used to wind from the start, on the other hand, I think was your problem, I would also check the humidity in the room, because what thebats is saying sounds legit also.
Instant climate change is not good for anything especially if it is temperature, pretty sure an instant drastic climate change on temps can even kill humans.
