Normally I'd answer this with some half witted lame joke.
Instead for some reason I'll just give what I think is the answer. This site is mostly Geo's thing managed more exclusively by him and not bothered with as much by Ythan and some others who's concentration is the Shroomery.

Geo presents us a name and we discuss. he looks for the obvious, active posters with level heads for the most part. I think all the mods pretty much fit that description.

I've been on the shroomery for four years and here for two and a half. I don't think i have ever had a real conversation with the guy, in the forums or via pm. He's a busy guy and he knows we appreciate his work. He helped me out with a problem over the weekend though. I'd really like to meet him and geo at some point. These sites have enriched sooooo many lives.

I started the Shroomery in August of 1997. I was 15 at the time and yes, that arguably makes me a hypocrite for enforcing our 18+ age requirement.
My main contribution to the Shroomery is programming, including the content management script which powers the main site and most of the BB's enhanced functionality. I also have a hand in many other aspects of the site, including server administration, graphics design, page optimization (for size and search engines), promotion, monetization, member support, and guiding our continued evolution.
After years of running the site as a volunteer operation, the admins now receive a modest hourly wage. For some reason this seems to bother certain people, and I invite them to lead by example and forgo their own paychecks while taking on increasing workloads and responsibilities.
I haven't tripped since 2000, psychedelics make me depressed. These days I'm just a pothead.
There are pictures of me online, here is one of them. Just don't get the wrong idea, I'm not a goddamn hippie!

well, it's not all profit. As I recall they are trying to save up money for a new server. So it's not like there aren't any expenses. I do think he could sell the shroomery for a lot of money though. I pray that never happens, unless im the one buying it.
