 Frizzleman's First Hempy Bucket [Two 400W Air Cooled]

Well ladies and gentlemen the last grow attempted was not very motivational.... I scrapped the whole thing so I could start anew with a nice clean hempy grow. To tell the truth this will be my last attempt in such a small space to grow a decent amount of my favorite plant unless I achieve my goal.
After doing quite a bit of research into Hempy Buckets I found that I wanted to give it a shot. Especially seeing some of my supporters have amazing results. So I took the best plant from my previous grow (before throwing it away) and I built a cloner. I have a total of 5 plants growing and I hope to take at least 5 ounces away from this grow. I will post all updates on the first page of this thread. Please feel free to ask questions and give feedback..........
The Frizz is back
1) Ok so here are my babies that were planted last Saturday the 10th. I am using the 3 part tiger farms nutes fox farms, grow big, and big bloom and plan to use some additives during flowering.

Growth seems to be going pretty well so far. I noticed a little bit more stretch than I wanted so I lowered the light a bit and I pruned the tops of the plants so they get a bit more bushy. Also as you can see I added one more clone that I thought would be worth adding. So there is a total of 6 plants now.

Just entering week three now and notice that the plants are not growing nearly as fast as they do in the Aeroponics system that I had. I am not to worried about it though since I dont think they will become root bound in here like they did in the aero. Flowering starts on Sunday so wish me luck fellas.

Hey Guys just entered my first week of flowering. So far I have to say I am infinitely more impresses with the Hempy system than the Aeroponic system. There is much less to worry about/maintain and the plants seem 100 times healthier. I just hope these things will be reflected in the final yield.

Well guys its time for my weekly update. As usual its getting harder to take full crop pictures since my babies are getting so big. They are really drinking a LOT of water. I am going to have to start watering them every day and buy more nutes. Hopefully all this eating means that my babies are happy and are going to make me happy when they are finished.

Hey Guys here is my weekly update. It seems that if I listen to a few people that I have been talking to and really only started to count it as flowering day one when I saw some white hairs then im really only at flowering week 2 and in good shape. Otherwise I have no idea why my babies are flowering so slowly. They are showing some buds now so I am going to just let them keep on growing. Just a strange phenotype I guess....will probably be 2 weeks longer than I expected to harvest, no biggie. I know the pictures are not that great, that is what happens when you have a 2 mp camera....dont worry though im buying a cam this week so from now on it should be really good quality.

Hey everybody how is everything? I waited another week to post my update so I could have a more significant difference in growth. The plants are definitely in full flower now as you can see by the below pictures. Since the plants did not really go into full flower for the first 2-3 weeks I would say that I still have 2-3 weeks to go until harvest. Please note that there is very little tric production which tells me that they still have some fattining to go. Please let me know if I am assuming correctly. Also I went to half strength formula due to some burning and my babies seem to like it MUCH better.

Well I do have one on the wall as a supplement. But my main source of light is a 400W air cooled MH. Should be plenty of power there for some nice growth.

My first attempt at Hydro was with an aeroponics unit and to tell you the truth I didnt really like it. (See Signature) I thought it would be great but with all the plants competing I only got one plant worth anything out of 8. I would def go hempy if I were you. And when I first started flowering there were no preflowers, I would say they just started to develop over the last few days. Im hoping for a good 6-7 ounces out of this baby. If I achieve my goal im going to double production.

ohh maybe the aero system was just a little small? in my hydro each plant has 5 gallons of water to root in, so i think its about the same as ur hempy, just different. My girls are pretty massive for 5 weeks, not flowering them yet tho cuz im waitin till all have visible preflowers. right now its 2/4 i can see female preflowers on.

no need for hydroton, but I wouldn't recommend 100% perlite either. In my experience adding a bit of vermiculite to the mixture really helps with cation retention and overall nutrition for the plants as well as helping to retain some moisture so you don't have to water every single day

sweet i just went to the hydro shop and got 2 5gal buckets and one big net pot , one 5gal dwc and one 5gal hempy i made a 7/8 hole on the bottom of the bucket , the bottom of my hole is 1 3/4 from the bottom of bucket is that ok or should i silicon and raist it? cant wait to get them up and running, also on the dwc should i do a top feed along with the air stone in the solution. thanks

the hole sounds like it's in perfect position. If you haven't already thought this far then you need to start planning on a screen to hold the perlite from washing out the hole when you water.
The point of DWC is that you don't have to do any top watering

i'm not trying to argue with you harry, but to my knowledge, in hempy buckets yes do a 3:1 of perlite to vermiculite,
BUT in the dwc i would think using straight perlite or hydroton would be much better. Vermiculite would become over saturated and get soggy and nasty, plus it will end up all gettin out his net pot and be everywhere in his res. Over saturation results in root rot, which results in no weed...  
the perlite has great drainage, and doesn't hold to much moisture.
The only reason i am arguing this fact is because i had asked about doing a mixture of verm and perl in my hydro setup on here long ago, and everyone shot down the idea and said to go with either straight perl or hydroton. And thats what i am doing and its working DAMN good, i must say.
Except for spency, he was suggesting the mixture, until he changed his mind.

well I was in no way suggesting to use vermiculite in the DWC, nobody ever does that because it completely defeats the purpose of a submergence hydro system. if you'll remember, I was one of the people who told you not to use vermiculite in your system, so of course I'm not suggesting that now.
However, in Hempy's a 3:1 ratio of vermiculite is WAY too much. I use absolutely no more than a 6:1 ratio but probably closer to 8-10:1.

i got the big net pot its like 10in from the shop n it fits right into the 5gal but it doesnt leave much room for roots n i dont want them to tangle, is there a good 20-30 gal trash bin w a lid? i was wantin them to get pretty big and with the hole on my hemmpy tape a piece of wire screen on the outside? thanks o im gettn clone prolly purp urk n im gunna throw it in the hempy ill post pics later , so the mix is 3parts perlite 1part coco/or peat? and maybe a tad of verm

And no, no peat or coco in hempy's. Hempy is Perlite and Vermiculite only. And if you'll read the rest of the thread you'll see that 3:1 is NOT the correct ratio

my bad sack i thought hempys were just a soiless mix w a small rezi n by the tangled roots i was just worried if my plant grew big it would tangle my airstone then when i open to refil rezi i might rip roots? n e way i was messn around n made one like this

Hey guys just wanted to give a little update. The bottoms of my plants are receiving really low amounts of light, the penetration on the 400W is really not all that deep. Since I have another 400W light I decided to hook that sucker up so now I have 800W altogether. I left the top one alone and added the second one on the side for some side penetration. It seems that there is a lot more light in there now.
Also a thing that concerns me a little bit is flowering seems to be going kind of slowly. Its been 17 days now and there isnt really any bud formation at least compared to my aero log. I am doing Northern lights which is a different strain but still just a bit worried. I am following the fox farms nute schedule to the T and it is completely dark (cant see hand in front of face) during the off cycle. Maybe I am just a bit paranoid. Hopefully it starts to pick up. Will post pics in the next few days.

your plants look real healthy, are they shooting out pistols and hairs? it takes awhile for them to build up but once you start seeing nice thick white hairs they fattn up. i just started using low strenth bloom ferts n im still workin my way up and maybe once you start seeing hairs count that as day 1 of flower , one of mine was an auto so once it started showing i switched lights so the cotton candy is a few days behind. another week and you should have some sweet formation especially with those lumens. how are you likin the hempys?

So far I love how easy it is compared to the aero setup. Especially since I had a failure in one of the hoses and my entire res emptied in an hour and nearly drowned the people downstairs lol. It is starting to show signs of flowering that I would expect to have seen really early on. I am just paranoid. I will do as you said as it seems like some solid advice. Though should I expect them to stretch much more? Right now after 2 weeks they are at a perfect height, but if they stretch much more its going to be a pain in the tits. lol

Nope not running the same strain.... was master kush in the Aero, now im doing Norther Lights both by Nirvana. I will post updated pics tomorrow. I did happen to have a pic on my phone of the light setup I have now. 400 on the top and 400 on the side
as of last night I would say that the leaves are starting to bunch up a little bit...as in no more veg growth and starting to show signs of flowering

yeah, I'd say it's most likely that it's just the slight difference of the strain. It'll probably be slow to start and then just explode in buds a couple weeks from now

you know honestly for 18 days I would have to say that I would expect more flowering formation than that..... I'm wondering if perhaps they just weren't sexually mature yet when you started flowering? Although in my experience that doesn't usually affect anything I've seen it slow things down once or twice. Hmmm... I'm a little stumped on this one

lol something that would really be the only thing which would make sense is does he have them on 12 on and 12 off? Make sure that for you 12 off that there is NO light at all, it should be pitch black. darkness means total darkness, or you could interrupt the process.

yeah I checked yesterday too..... it is 100% cant see an inch in front of your face dark during the off period..... I guess I will just have to take a wait and see approach. Maybe for some reason these babies are just going to take a few weeks longer....

Hey Geo.... I see that you put on the thread that its a fluorescent grow.... if you could please change it to 800W HPS. The fluorescent is just a supplement light, my main source of light are the big fixtures.

I bought what I needed to yesterday from my friendly neighborhood hydro dude and am going to start feeding my babies that from now on. I feel like tiger farms just wasnt doing it for me plus ive seen so many awesome results using this formula.

Just a note from personal experience; you can feed stronger than 8-16 during the peak of flowering. I was going as high as 10-20 or 11-22 on some of my grows and I feel the extra food really boosts the yield. Ramp up to that though, don't just jump right to it or you'll burn them

didn't use a TDS meter
My tap water here comes out at only 65ppm though, so that could be part of the reason I was able to feed so high

It is pretty crazy. You can definitely taste the difference, too. I live in the south US and the water here has a weird, almost metallic taste. I still drink the hell out of it, though. I have a cup full right now, actually. You can't drink enough water in this heat.

Hey guys I updated. Plants are still in very early stage of flowering after 4 weeks.....cant understand why they are flowering so slowly, maybe nirvana sent me wrong seeds and these are actually more sativa? Or maybe I should just go ahead and count day 1 of flowering from the first white hairs which were just about a week and a half to two weeks ago. Either way please feel free to comment.

hey guys finally bought a sweet camera!! I took some higher definition pics that show the buds and their development very well. Its been 4 weeks of flowering but it looks to me like its only been 2 weeks, maybe my babies are just behind for some reason, but by the look of them (please let me know if you agree I updated the first post) they are flowering just fine and will just take a few weeks longer after all they didnt show white hairs until after the first two weeks of flowering this time for some reason....

Hello everybody I just posted an update after two weeks without one. My next update will be another two weeks from now due to a vacation. According to the strain info these babies should be done by now. Since flowering did not officially start until at least 2-3 weeks after I switched to 12/12 I would say I have another 2-3 weeks before harvest. Please check out the pictures and let me know what you think.

by the looks of it friz i'd say you have more like 4 weeks left, and it kinda looks like its not gettin any fae or alittle bit of heat stess, but they're gettn there for sure you should see mine i got like a week maybe two ill post an update on them soon,

Sweet grow man. I got some purple kush that has been in flower for over a month and its just barely budding. Thinking of taking it to a friends and throwing it outside. Good thing I did this last set in soil.

Dude same exact thing happened to me man. I would just let it go right where you are now. Its kind of late in the season to be putting it outside. I was told (which is what im doing) just count from when the first pre flowers start to show. You guys should put your journals in your signatures so I can check them out.

http://www.growery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/458896 ; i'll post some pics tomorrow. the pics on there are a week old. fae is frequent air exchange its kindof a shroomery term but it looks like you got some heat stress or not enough airflow.. how do you like the hempy buckets? i'd suggest going with a couple organic soil grows next go round. i was thinkn of goin hempy next run but dirt is so damn easy. n e ways keep it up man in a couple weeks your gunna have some sweet buds.

ps. frizz you see how your fan leaves are curling, this could indicate stess. i dont know how close you have your grls to the light but if its too close you could bend and tie them down a hair. ( i noticed one of my bigger taller buds gettn a little crispy so i moved it from directly under the bulb. hope my two cents helps.

well I know for sure they are def getting enough FAE. I have a vortex 190 that is more than enough. It could be a tad bit of heat stress but I already tied these babies so many times. I do not even have the room to do it anymore. Hopefully they will be ok.

hows it coming along frizz? i harvested one of mine came out pretty good i'm happy with it, cuttin the other one soon and i then its gunna be danker , alot stinkier anyways.

Hello everybody! Its time for my update! Hope you are 10% as excited as I am. Basically my worries are over, they have produced a nice amount of bud, at least what I had hoped for. Here are some pics which show the whole closet and some close ups with and without flash so you can see the trichs please feel free to comment. I would estimate another week or so and its harvest time!

Hello Growery!!! Been a while since my last update. Basically I harvested one plant a week or two ago and dried that bitch out. My yield on that plant was 2.7oz dry....currently in cure mode. I just harvested all the rest last night and will post some pics soon.....
Glad that I am getting the yields that I wanted....my next grow is going to be from a new seed company, I think I want to try attitude, must more expensive than nirvana but I hear there genetics are amazing. Going to go with white label white widow, anybody have expierence with this strain?

Have not really had much time to take pics and update this log. Sorry guys. But the final dry weight was 13.7 zips. I am very very happy with the amount that I got. The smoke is really really nice but I think I am going to go with Mr. Nice seeds from now on. I have heard great things and am ready for a more powerful genetic lineage.
