Roots Excelurator, awesome product
    #445705 - 07/12/10 11:35 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

I had some freshly rooted clones in rockwool cubes, threw them in 2 gallon soil pots and applied a light dose of this for after the initial watering. Them seem to have grown faster then clones without this product.

If anything works, I think this product actually does something. Also I'm using Fox Farms Ocean Forest and Happy Frog soil. I've found that you do not want to use nutrients, or you have to be very careful with what you use regarding Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil. It already has lots of nutrients so maybe someone can enlighten me on what the plants actually need.

I have the General Hydroponics line of organic nutrients; BioThrive
http://www.generalhydroponics.com/genhydro_US/biothrive.html?PHPSESSID=0ca7f891e73f1c47c591c4b991181f43
I read on Fox Farms website that their Ocean Forest Soil has nitrogen in it already. I'm really clueless on what I should be adding to feed.

Yep, I used Roots Excelurator on my last grow and I'll never grow without it again. I wish it wasn't so damn expensive, but man it really does the trick. The roots in my bucket were so thick I couldn't even poke my finger into the soil

I use fox farm ocean forest soil and I using GH Flora nova veg and bloom at same levels as any other soil grower. Not sure what you mean by you have to be careful when using nutes with this soil? where did you get that info?

I was wondering how this stuff is, the new hydro shop owner in town gave me 3 pints of it for free. I guess it's another one of those products he just doesn't like. He told me to test it out, and if I like it he has something better that I will definately like.
When's the best time to use the Root Excelurator? Just during the cloning stage, or throughout veg also?

We just had a conversation about how he hated flora nova, and he was just walking me around the store bs'ing and he brought up root excelurator. I told him I never used it, and about 20mins later when I was checking out he goes "you remember the root excelurator I was telling you about? Take these let me know if you like it" Since I'm growing out my moms for my upcoming journal, I haven't needed them yet. They've just been chilling. I thought it was just crap since he gave me 3 bottles. Not until recently I've found that a lot of growers are using it. So in about 2-3 weeks when I cut clones I'll give it a try.
Also it says you shouldn't use an airstone in your reservoir. I'm not using a stone but I do grow using aeroponics. Will this screw up the stability of the solution?

Oh yeah Harry was that  :pm: in your message meant for me?

Actually now that I looked at the bottle there probably more like half pint bottles maybe a little smaller. But it still looks like a decent amount. The bottle says it's by House and Garden use 1.1ml per gallon. Does that sound like the right stuff?

Weird, never saw the Excelurator in a glass vial.  Always those shiny aluminum ones.  I'm gonna give this stuff a go when I do my next clone run.  I'll plop down the 60 bucks on the small bottle to check it out, wouldn't dare drop the 100$ the hydro store wanted for a slightly larger bottle.  That amount of money would give me enough nutes to last an entire year lol.

I wish I could personally give it a try, but I'm an aeroponic grower. I guess I could try it out in a seedling try the next time I cut clones. Otherwise I'm giving them to a buddy, and sending one to Harry if he hits me up. Do you guys know of any good rooting products that can be used in aero/hydroponic setups?

You could always supplement the water supply with a B1 additive like super thrive or thrive alive.  I'd say you could probably even use the roots excelurator (god i fucking HATE how that's spelled) in an aero system as well.

I'm planning on using it pretty much just for cloning.  If it can help shave days off my cloning cycle I'll be a believer for life.

I figured I'd soak my rooting cubes in a solution of Roots Excelurator and see if that helped any.  That's actually how I first heard about this product.

Yeah I was gonna try that method but I really hate using cubes. I guess that's the only choice I have since the hydro guy, and Houuse and Garden website says not to use it in aerated systems. Plus I guess I can use up all the Root Riot cubes I have chilling in ziplocks taking up space. I kinda can't wait to give it a whirl. Coda let us know how it works out.

It will be a while before I can test it out, but when I do I'll make a thread about it.  Interesting that it can't be used in an aero system, wonder why.

I tried out those root riot cubes and they worked out pretty well.  I liked them a little more then the peat pellets because the medium comes into better contact with the stem.  They were a little unstable in my tray though and had a tendency to tip if I jostled the cloning chamber too much.  Other then that they were pretty easy to work with and gave me some good results.

Hey cicken maybe if you took time to read you would know that it can't be used in hydro or aeroponics. Both methods in which "I" use to grow. And trust me I know who's reliable on the board, so when I need tips on phototron growing I'll shoot you a pm. Not trying to be a dick or anything.

But for the record, I used RE in Hempy and coco, both of which are considered hydro. Just don't use it in nutrient immersion systems like NFT, DWC or aero

Thanks Harry. I predominately use aeroponics, so I'm gonna steer clear of using it myself. Just wondering what some other people were using as root stimulator's in their aero setups.

pics of your aero unit? Did you use plans off the internet or a purchased unit? I'm amazed at how many homemade units there are!

I know a guy who made a stink buddies unit and said it maximized his yield which is important for him because he is a registered grower for Health Canada. It really seems like hydro is spreading like a disease it's more and more understood, getting more and more simplified, it's no longer taboo!

I even thought indoor growing was nonsense until a few years ago. I still believe it is, I can grow outdoors enough weed to last me the year and have even developed a system to trade on credit with my friends so I have their fresh buds during the off season.

Works like a charm

I'll try it for the clones on rockwool cubes before I flower these babies; if you goto grow journals, you can see the plants.

In fact I'll do half the clones with Roots Execelurator and have the roots with Clonex and see which one wins?

no you should give them both clonex because RE is NOT a cloning hormone. That just wouldn't be a fair test. Basically just clone them all normally until they're well rooted, then apply RE to half of them and watch the progress from there

I've been messing around with homemade syatems for like the past 10yrs. I use a stinkbud style setup with a modifications I found to work better.

Well I don't believe that at all. Here where it's cold most of the year, I would only get one crop a year. And I don't have all summer to wait for just one crop. I may do an outdoor grow next year, but even then unless it's very well hidden the helicopters spot most grows.

Do you have an accurate idea of how many outdoor grows get busted where you live? Having lived in British Columbia which is notorious for fly over helicopters I'd say the most they get is 1/4-1/3 of the big grows. Small plots are nearly never looked into by law enforcement unless they're very close together at least that's the policy in BC.

What modifications have you made to the Stink Buddy unit? Any pictures? I thought the setup I saw was amazing it was more or less exactly as instructed online.

I have no accurate idea as of how many, but from talking to my ex-girlfriends dad a few years back who worked in TNU for the state police he would talk about it all the time. But I didn't wanna get into all the details at that particular time. Come to think of it I never ask for too many details. Weed busts always come up as a topic of discussion amongst cops. Whenever I mod one of their little kids wii's it just comes up. Besides around here indoor grows are just common. And me being a cardholder, outdoor grows is something I just wouldn't rely on for many different reasons.

All modifications are minor like measurements, for the down spout that goes into the reservoir I use flexible tubing instead of PVC pipe. I found it be a lot easier when it comes time to switch out the nutes. Some systems I added holes to see if I could fit more plants in without affecting the yield of the original 6 or 14 plants he uses in his setups. I've used wide PVC pipe instead of the fence posts he uses to hold the 2in pots. PVC has so many different connectors you can use to connect pipes. Where with the fence posts you are kinda limited. Mostly simple stuff like stated before. I used his plans as a base, and take the size and shape of the grow room I'm working with into consideration. My new room is smaller, and systems are basic with just the minor mods as stated above. Pics will be up in a few weeks when I start my White Widow and Kings Kush grow log.

I'll try to get that info next time.
