that would suck big time, i always though if a species was intelligent enough to come here they wouldnt be violent.

Just seeing the nature of nearly every species on earth we would have to conclude the most likely scenario is that of violence and exploitation.  I believe in aliens myself, though I doubt they've visited earth.  Relatively speaking our planet is a late arrival to the scene.

I'm not so sure about that, I think it's equally likely that we're the first arrival

Takes for-fucking-ever to evolve from simple amoebas and bacteria into fully sentient life, who knows if we're fast or slow on that sort of a timescale?

I find asteroids, or self-destruction far more superior to our demise, and the planet we live on, than some alien invasion.

I was speaking more of our planetary system.

I would agree, more on the side of us, or a virus.

Meaning the forming of our sun, and the planets around us.  Our sun's age compared to other stars makes it a relatively new arrival.  And of course with out the sun there is no life.

oh yeah, I can agree with that, but I guess it's equally likely that we're some of the first on the scene. Our planet really hadn't been around that long before life sprang up on it, I think it's totally possible that other systems might have been around for a trillion years before life sprung up and then they're tied with us, or perhaps they took 10 billion years to get from single celled to sentience, and then we're still WAY faster. I don't really have a point, I just think it's trippy to consider how big of time frames we're considering here how trippy it is that shit actually survives in the universe

Well I certainly think that intelligent life of the complexity to travel intergalacticly would be rare imo, and others of more professional credentials.  Here we are, 2010 and some are anticipating our species coming to an end in the next 100 years.  We are no where close to traveling intergalactically, though the same could be said for flight in the 1800's so who knows.

agreed. In 1803 nobody would have possibly imagined that we'd be only 100 years from flight, and 200 years from circling the entire globe at 4 times the speed of sound. Who knows what could happen 200 years from now, it only takes one amazing invention and all of a sudden everything is completely different

Just a small tidbit for you niggers to think about:

We are effectively isolated from any other inhabited planet.
Why?

The nearest star system is several light years away,
making it virtually impossible for them to discover us,
or for us to discover them, not to mention the fact
that over long distance, electromagnetic radiation degrades into noise.

Even if they were to find our location somehow,
getting to us would be impossible because there's
no possible way for them to have any kind of vehicle
that could travel the distance without refreshing their resources.

Forget what you see in Star Trek - that's all fictional bullshit.

exactly.  the research in the field of quantum teleportation is getting exciting already.

on the other hand it suggested I change "teleportation" to "deportation."

Make your best guesses with the drake equation here -> http://www.activemind.com/Mysterious/Topics/SETI/drake_equation.html

I get a guess of 660,000 intelligent, communicative species in the galaxy.  Wow thats alot!  Im pretty generous when it comes to fl, the length of time a species will live for.  Im more conservative when it comes to the amount of suitable planets, fp, ne and fi.

Don't assume for even a moment that other alien being have to be similar to our physical shapes.

They could be like human-sized insects with great vocabularies. :awesome:
