First of all, if this thread digresses into flaming you bet your ass it will be closed

However, I sure hope it doesn't come to that :christ:

I prefer hydro. It grows faster, more potent, and higher yield. I don't see how there could possibly be a downside

I just want to bookmark this page.  I really have nothing to add sense I have only done a few small plants in soil.

I been reading up on hempy buckets and think I may start my hydro that way till I get the cash and time to build some ebb+flow tables.

After being away for 2 weeks I can honestly say I would prefer hydro.

It's hard to go anywhere for 2 weeks at a time if you grow in soil. You have to get someone to water your plants and that is neither easy or ideal.

How would leaving your hydro plants for 2 weeks be any better? :justdontknow:

yeah I think if you're gone for 2 weeks you pretty much just need to plan on having someone check on them for you

How will leaving them for 2 weeks hurt? As long as they get watered and fed then what is the problem?

Personally, I don't think it very beneficial to touch and play with your plants every other day like many people do. Plant's really don't need YOU to make them grow. They need light, water, nutrients. Everything else comes natural.

There's not much much natural about growing cannabis indoors under artificial lighting. If you just have whoever feed them and they are not up on PH/EC they could very well kill your plant a week before you get back.

It can hurt because if you don't have your system completely dialed in then they'll consume nutrients faster than water and starve. Or water faster than nutes and burn up.

You don't have to touch them and play with them every day, but it's very clear that you've never done a hydro grow by your "set it and forget it" attitude towards them. After you've done the same system and strain a couple rounds it's very possible to leave them for a week or two, but new hydro systems require frequent monitoring and adjustment to keep everything running as well as possible.

QFT. Could not have said it better myself.

So much shit can go wrong in a hydro setup it's not even funny.

I prefer Hydro using coir as a substrate, you get the best of both, the production of hydro and convenience of soil (able to move pots, cater to specific plant needs ect ect.. much like bucket systems without extra parts.

I voted soil because it can't get any easier.

No fancy contraptions. Just a pot and dirt.

Someday I will try hydro but for the time being I'll be a lazy bum.

Co-signed.

If you keep an eye on BIG grows around the net you've seen coco steadily taking over the game. I see just as many traditional hydro/aero growers changing to coco lately as I do soil growers, and yet for different reasons. Growers change their mediums all the time, but coco is the only one I see people flocking to and never away from. At some point it will win most of you guys over too. Just my two cents.

Awe shucks... just bought all this hydroton for my next grow. My systems probably not too coco friendly anyway.

I rolled with soil, but my vote is completely biased since I've only ever grown in soil..(other than using a home brewed areoponics system for cloning)

When my living conditions change and things improve financially i do plan on branching out a bit. Hempys or coir will be the first plunge i think.

So long as you flush it out well, yes, you can use the coco coir as a hydro medium.

Convenient huh lol. One of the most important things to remember as diesel said make sure you flush it well before use, a while back when I first started using it I ran into problems and couldnt figure it out then one day it hit me. duh

Yeah very important. My brother did his first run with coco a few months back, and he forgot to flush the coco before he transplanted. The plants did not enjoy that
