Thinking about growing autoflowering strain.

For my first grow under an HPS. A few questions cuz I want to do this right after all.
1.)Do autoflowering strains do well in soil? (I was thinking foxfarm products) 2.) How big of a pot do you need for an autoflowering strain? 3.) From start to finish on average how long do autofloweing strains take to grow? 4.) How tall does an autoflowering strain get (on average). 5.) Are they easier to grow than a normal strain? 6.) Any good breeders that you know of?

1. yes fox farm and ff nutes work magic. 2. I have had mine in 3 1/2 gallon buckets but they didnt even use it all. 3.85-100 days closer to 90 usually. 4.I had only one go over 2ft mostly 20-22ins. 5.I threw the seeds in cubes than transplanted, they were outside so nature did the rest but give nutes. 6.I grew lowryder 2 and lowryder X ak-47 with great results.

That or I was thinking growing 1 or 2 normal size plants and choping them or tying them down....which would be a better option?

A buddy of mine was growing lowryder #2 outdoors a year or two ago and he had them in 5 gal pots and the roots were all the way to the edges, probably dosent need that much though
Im planning on trying some of them outdoors next spring since they stay so short

I love LST methods like ScrOG and tying down. If you put one plant in a 5 gallon bucket with a 3x3ft screen ontop with the right strain you could pull a pound. If your doing 2 plants you should think about growing hydro like a deep water culture or a ebb n flo system, both easy and good for new hydro growers. If your looking for time period than go auto but if your looking for starting a mother and growing the best weed you have ever smoked for an indefinite amount of time go with 1 or 2 plants. What wattage is your HPS and whats your grow area look like.

Id assume its hard to ScrOG an autoflowering plant seeing as there is just one main stem and not really any branches (usually)

Its impossible pretty much to ScrOG a auto strain, I was trying to push trip towards the jedi side(non-auto).

Right now I'm thinking just a plant or two, not as a mother or anything. I think I'm going to do a soil grow. My wattage would be a 400 watt HPS bulb. Not sure what my grow area will look like right now. Although it would be nice to get a lb. off a plant I dont really need that much. I just need to learn how to do things the right way. I would do a hydroponics grow but its to expensive for me. I think I'm just gonna get some good soil and nutes and make my one or two plants really happy. I'm thinking about growing some GDP or something that will chill me out cuz I have anxiety pretty bad.

Time would be an issue possibly where I am at now, but if I move to where I want soon then I dont have to worry about time or landlords.

If you have to worry about landlords than dont grow PERIOD. Ok first off I am hydro biast because thats one of the classes I teach,. Hydro is cheap as fuck, go to home depot, get 2 buckets 2-3 gallons is perfect for this, some verm and perlite maybe even hydroton(I do), and a drill if you dont have one. Go here http://www.petco.com/product/109838/PETCO-Air-Pump.aspx?CoreCat=LN_Shopping_FishSupplies_AirPumpsandAccessories and get the strongest one. Drill shit ton of holes in the bottom of one bucket like the size of lincolns head on the penny. hook up the 4 pump outputs,4 airstones, and tubes and place the 4 airstones around the center of the bucket and fill with media mixture. place this bucket inside a non-hole drilled one, add enough water so that the inner bucket has water like 4 inches above the bottom. Single stage nutes are cheap. Your total 35 bucks and that thing will grow you a huge plant. get clones from a buddy or fem seeds online. fuck auto, learn on real plants first.

Eh, if you're looking to save money fuck DWC. Just go hempy, no need for pumps or airstones. All you need is a bucket, some perlite (verm too if you want), and that's it. Drill a hole two inches from the bottom of the bucket, fill the bucket with your substrate, and place your plant in.
Water the bucket until water dribbles from the hole and you're good to go.

Yeah thats what he's doing.
Putting holes a few inches above the bottom ensures that the roots don't dry up and always have something to feed on.
It's basically like a poor mans DWC but it works great.
I just love my soil though and would stick to that as it is more forgiving to mistakes.

There's your diagram and here's a quick rundown on the system.
Original Hempy Substrate mixture:
3:1 ratio of perlite to verm. I have 5 quart buckets so I ended up 3 quarts of perlite and 1 quart of verm. Mixed that together dumped it in, and just used more perlite to fill in the remaining space.
Note: You can grow in straight perlite if you wish, I'm noticing they want to be watered a little quicker then those with the verm in them though. So if you go the straight perlite route it's possible to be a little more work in the end.
The bucket creates a reservoir at the bottom, the hole you drill in prevents you from over watering your plant. I highly suggest using a steady container like a watering can and remember how much water it takes to cause it to dribble out. That way you know how much to pour for each plant and can gauge how much water and nutes you'll need per feeding.
I have a little metal watering can that if i fill up almost all the way to the top, will not cause my plants to overflow if they're dry. I get about three plants worth per gallon of water so to do 8 plants I need 3 gallons of mixture. It leaves me with a little left over, but feedings come quick so I don't mind storing it.
As for nutes I can highly recommend the Flora Nova Series. It's a little pricey at around 30 dollars or so per quart, but it's a one part system that gives your plants EVERYthing they need. All vital macro and micro's are in there. I'm using this line exclusively with no extra additives (save for maybe some molasses at the end) just to see how well it works by itself. Lots of people use it, and I love it so far, so it's worth the extra cash IMO.
While the root systems are smaller, you may have to water a little bit daily to give the plant the food and hydration it needs. But once the root system takes off you'll water about every 2-3 days. If your plants get big enough, you may find yourself watering once a day. But that's only towards the end of the grow cycle anyways.
Other then that the same rules still apply. Start off with some light doses of food, find out how they react, then gradually up the doses as you progress. It's dead simple honestly and so far has produced some fantastic results for me. Can't beat the price either (minus nute costs).
20$ 3 Cu. Ft bag of perlite 3$ Bag of verm 16$ 8 1 gal plastic buckets 2$ Bag of solo cups for babies
So 41 bucks to set up 8 plants. The perlite will definitely last you, 3 cu ft is a lot. I got 8 gallons in buckets and filled probably 20-25 solo cups worth too. I also filled a seedling tray with some as well for clones. I still have enough perlite to do another bucket or so. Total cost is 100$ with the nutes in there, but I'll have enough to get me through at least one more flowering cycle before I'll have to order more.
That's hempy in a nutshell, no moving parts, hand watered, and dirt cheap.

yup. If they're seedlings they can go at most a week without food. When they're sprouts I'd feed them some Ph balanced water, soon as they start working on their second set of three bladed leaves i'd start hitting them with a light dose of nutes.

Since you are only going to grow 1 plant you are going to need a bigger container.
He only has them in smaller containers because they are AF and don't get large at all.

Yes. I believe it is a 3 part system.
General Hydroponics also comes highly recommended.
Personally I use Neptune's Harvest - Organic Fish and Seaweed Nutrients
I have been using them for a solid 7 years. It goes a LONG way and my plants show an obvious jump in growth every time I feed them with it.
I absolutely love the stuff. It grew the worlds largest pumpkin!

Flora nova is a one part system. There's a veg line and a bloom line though, so you'll need to pick up both if you're starting from seed.

You gotta look around some more too. Don't just go get the first thing someone recommends. Every grower has their own personal preferences.
I myself believe you don't have to spend that much on nutrients to get good results. Walk before you run
I've heard more good reviews on GH than floranova... but I can't tell you anything because i've never used floranova
