Barney's Farm - Red Dragon (fem) 100% Organic
    #338617 - 01/01/10 08:16 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

I'm starting my 3rd grow now after having a rather successful grow last round with some bagseed and a Barney's Blue Cheese that really turned out well (please let me know if you'd like to see any pics from my previous grow!)

Barney's Farm has a lot of excellent strains that i plan to work my way through in the next few years along with others.  Check out this grow which has just reached day 17 from seedling.  There are 5 plants:

3x BF Red Dragon (fem)
1x bagseed
1x Mr.NICE Dreamtime (reg)  -this was left over from my 1st grow

Here's some specs on my setup followed by the latest pics of the plants from a few days ago.  I also now have 3/6 plants LST'd with the other 3 getting tied down this evening as well...

Growspace:  spare bathroom (flowering may be moved to grow tent)
Medium:  100% Premiere HP Promix
Light:  400w MH with an HPS conv bulb for flowering later on...
Nutes:  Adv Nutrients - Org Iguana Juice GROW, BLOOM, Nirvana, molasses

On with the pics!

Thanks fb!  I have high (no pun intended) expectations of this grow, as i've heard a lot of good things about the Red Dragon strain but not many journals can be found on a full grow, start to finish... The bathtub indeed makes a great vegging location until they are taller than the edge of the tub, then they either need to move into my grow-tent, or I'll have to use my card-board mylar covered wall to enclose the tub... it works well, but I don't get the proper ventilation or odor-control in the bathroom...we'll see.  I'm still trying to get my tent ready to go - need to set up the fans and circulation properly to keep the temps down inside...

Day 16 of Veg [Re: Dayzt]
    #338735 - 01/02/10 01:58 AM (14 years, 3 months ago)

Picture update

- 2/3 Red Dragons have been LST'd, 1/3 was topped.
- The bagseed plant and the Dreamtime plant were also LST'd
- In the pics, you can see the front 3 plants were LST'd 2 days ago and the back left one just this evening before the pic was taken.  The Red Dragon in the back right was topped and I kept the top in some soil/water in a plastic container with a bag over-top (back far right in pics)

Enjoy! :rasta:

Day 19 of Veg [Re: Inverted]
    #340458 - 01/04/10 10:35 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

Picture Update

- all the kids are looking like they got a 'slap in the face' a bit from that recent round of toppin'n'tiein...lol.  Growth in the past 3 days has been slowed, but they appear to be getting a bit bushier again now.

- I'm in no rush with these, so I'm prepared to give them as much veg time as needed.  There may still be some 'choppin' coming in the next few weeks as I think i'll be trying to get a few clones this time around.

- The pics are in the same sequence this time again, with two extra pics of one Red Dragon with an interesting 3-pair node thing going on and another pic of my topped plant which now sports 6 flower sites of potential tops!

Enjoy! :leaf:

Day 22 of Veg [Re: Dayzt]
    #342865 - 01/07/10 11:16 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

Yesterday, the plants hit their 3-week mark since seedling.  Since they've all been through the LST and topping, I think they are still a bit mad at me...lol.  But they're all still looking very healthy!  There's some yellowish leaves on the bagseed plant but they're just from below the branch that I tied down so they should have been trimmed anyway - i'll take care of them once there's a bit more room in there to trim.  I'm not sure if my clone has taken root at all, but i'll give it a bit more time before I check and plant it in a pot - can't see much inside the container it's in since the stem on that cutting was very short...

Well, on with the pics!  Not tons of change since last update but it's been 3 days so again i'm keeping up with the same progression pics. Enjoy!  :gethigh:

Thanks shrooms!  Yeah that bagseed plant is the biggest one at this point for sure.  That was seed that I found in my stash a few months ago from some decent mystery weed.  It most likely was grown close by me so I'm guessing that's why it's faster since it's in close to the same 'climate' as it's parents.  The other ones are all imports - Dutch seed companies.  :gethigh:

I've attached a layout of my plants for everyone so you can tell which plant is which at this stage.  Once they are put into flowering (probably in about 2-3 weeks) they'll all get personal names - that way it will be easy to track them right up until smoke-time and I can look back at their development and see what exacted was done to each one.  I can get more experience that way and adapt some specific ideas for future grows. :leaf:

Okay, well today is the next 3rd day which means I should be doing a pic update... but I'll be repotting everything in the next few days, by Wed at the latest so I'll get the next round of pics after they've all be repotted.

Been working on my tent to get it ready for flowering, and so far it's looking good.  I still need to finish the electrical so that the light and fans can be plugged in properly and timed for the 12/12 switch.  We'll see how the plants react to the repotting and then they'll go straight into the tent for a week or so under the 600w MH before getting switched to the 600w HPS for 12/12.  I'm thinking of taking some clones and keeping them vegging in the bathroom under the 400w, but we'll see how things turn out - don't want to stress them out too much! :gethigh:

- The plants are looking good after a successful repot Monday evening!
- Some leaves are a bit droopy looking but still healthy and new bud sites are becoming more and more distinctive.
- I watered them in to their new pots with some straight ph'd water, and tonight they had their first full dosage of veg nutes in the new pots.
- My RD clone from the topped plant didn't make it = the stem was far too short.  Oh well... still not sure if I'm going to take any clones this time 'round or not.
- Tomorrow evening, all plants will go under the 600w MH for another few weeks I'm guessing.  They still need to get about 3 inches taller at least before I even start to think about flowering.

Pic update tomorrow night after everything is setup in the new tent under the 600! :gethigh:

Okay, here's the update!  Everything is up and running now under the 600w in the new tent!  The ladies are all nice and comfortable in their new 3 gal pots and have perked up a lot since last night's feeding.  I'll be watching them closely now that their relocated - It's the first time i've put anything in that tent so I hope it's going to be okay!

Here's some pics of the plants and one of my setup - enjoy!

Okay it's been about 4 days since my last update - been watching my plants very close in this past while since it wasn't looking all that promising there for a bit...

- My temps are great in the tent now, got a fairly steady 70-73 F with around 50% humidity.
- The plants are now starting to respond nicely and have grown about and inch and a half in the past day or so.
- Two out of the 5 are showing sex - both females!  That's the bagseed plant and 1 of the dragons.
- The 3-leaved dragon is looking very 'exotic' and is a very bright green color with sturdy looking foliage and stem - she's going to be a real star!
- The Dreamtime plant is very distictive with a dark green color and stragly looking leaves - just like the other Dreamtime plants looked, but growing faster now as well with very healthy looking leaves and more bud sites than I remember it having...

...I may take a few pics this week and post 'em, we'll see.  Anyone out there want to see new pics?  :leaf:

Here's the pic update - decided to get it done this evening.  I'm happy with how they are starting to respond now - they seem a lot more comfortable with their new home! :leaf:

There's a single pic of each plant and a group shot, plus an extra one at the end, top down of the exotic looking Red Dragon with the sets of 3 leaves.  Nice and green! =)

Week 5, Day 5 of Veg [Re: Dayzt]
    #353341 - 01/25/10 11:00 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Well, i'm approaching the 6 week mark which is where i'd planned to switch the plants over to 12/12. They look like they should be ready by then, but I may wait until the weekend to switch 'em all over.

Each plant is still looking really unique and the rest of the journey will be quite interesting to see which ends up performing the best!

On with the pics!!

That looks really nice man. What type of reflector do you use? What type of fan do you use? What are the demensions of your cab? And if you dont mind me asking how much money in electric are you spending to keep your cab running? I'm really curious cuz I'm gonna be building something similar to this.

Re: Growroom Pics [Re: Dayzt]
    #353800 - 01/26/10 09:22 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Thanks Trip!

- The reflector is the one in the below ebay link - 600w cooltube MH/HPS

http://cgi.ebay.ca/DIGITAL-AIR-COOL-TUBE-GROW-LIGHT-600-WATT-HPS-MH-600W_W0QQitemZ330399298648QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4ced553458

- The small white fan is just a regular desk-fan with a high and low setting, very simple.
- The intake in the bottom left corner has a 170 cfm inline fan in it but I haven't been using it much yet since it was lowering my temps a bit too much.

- The tent (better pic at the below link to my other grow journal..) is 96x48x78 in size.  Lots of room in there so I'm going really spread the girls out once they get bigger in order to get the most out of my light and space.

http://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/246834-bagseed-barneys-blue-cheese-2.html

- Electric bills haven't been bad - maybe about 20-30$ more than normal but nothing extreme, and I've been running a 400w MH for vegging too!

Hope that helps!  =)

Sweet man, ya that helps a lot. I dont want my room to be expensive. So thats sweet to hear that it has only ran you an extra 20-30 dollars. I'm thinking about getting a 250 CFM fan, good to hear that your 170 was lowering temps a lot. I think I might build myself a grow box and paint it white on the inside. But I'm happy to see that yours is working out really well. It has inspired me. One more question, what are you doing for smell?

For controlling the smell, I have a carbon filter in the tent which has a built-in 270 CFM fan - it sucks the air into it, scrubbing it as it pushes that air through my light's cooltube and then up out the top of the tent.

6.5 Weeks Veg - Starting Flowering [Re: Dayzt]
    #355762 - 01/30/10 10:02 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Ok - well i'm now at 6 and a half weeks of veg for these girls and they're on thier last light cycle now, with the timer set to turn off the lights at 7 am tomorrow morning.  Just before 7 pm tomorrow night i'll remove the ducting from my cooltube and change the bulb to my HPS one for starting flowering!

Night-time temps will have to be monitored closely now since no light means no heat, and my basement isn't super warm... we'll see.  I bought a small space heater today so I can always set it up near my intake fan and have it suck warmish fresh air into the tent during the dark cycle so it doesn't get too cold.

Here's a pic update.  The first two are groups shots and then there's a pic of each plant with the last pic of the biggest red dragon in the center - looks exciting already!

Would you reccomend a cooltube as a reflector? I was thinkin about getting something like that but people told me they dont reflect the light well. Your plants are looking healthy though man, keep up the good work.

It's actually a pretty good deal - the whole kit there comes with the cooltube and large metal shade, 2 bulbs (1 600w MH, 1 600w HPS), digital ballast compatible with both MH and HPS bulbs, 2x retractible light hooks and a timer.

I'm likely going to get another one of these kits in a few months so I can fill out my whole tent and have around 10-12 plants flowering in there at once...we'll see.

Well, the light was switched this evening to eht HPS bulb and the girls are looking really, really happy! It was like they appreciated the dark cycle and are looking real sexy and green under the reddish HPS light. I've been foliar spraying them quite a bit since the humidity level in the tent hangs right around 40% and the extra spray helps the leaves keep thier stomata open enough so they don't dry out on me. I've heard from a few people that the Red Dragon strain likes to have it fairly dry and extra dry in the last few weeks before harvest. I won't have any problem with that since it's so dry here - it's more of a challenge to keep the humidity level up...

Sorry for the lack of updates lately...there wasn't a lot to see this past week as the girls adjusted to the new light cycle, but the past 3 days or so have shown some nice growth as they start to do their thing.  Tonight i'll be giving them their very first bloom feeding at 1/2 strength along with some AN Nirvana.  (I plan to get some mineral water today to use, as I'm wondering if the tap-water i've been using has been a factor - I pH down the tap-water, but it's not the same as the rain-water I used in my last grow...)

NOTES:

- The light, the filter/fan and the intake fan are all on their own timers now. The light is of course on the 12/12 setting with the light coming on at 7 pm (actually 6:50) and going off at 7 am. The filter/fan is set to be on whenever the light is on, as well as for 15 min each hour during the dark cycle to bring the humidity levels
down some. The intake fan runs for 15 min each hour the whole time and forces in nice fresh air as opposed to acting as a passive intake the rest of the time. I've noticed this works well to keep the temps more even as well during the dark cycle as long as the filter/fan isn't sucking out all the warmth the whole time, and effectively allows the whole tent/environment to 'breath' nicely as it cycles the air well. Temps and humidity are staying in the 60-75, 40%-65% range with this setup. Later on during flowering, these settings will have to change a bit so I can bring the humidity down more during the dark cycle, so that will mean changing the filter/fan to run more often with the lights off.

Pic update is planned for tomorrow evening once they've had a day to eat and drink! Stay tuned!!

End of Week 1 of Flowering [Re: Dayzt]
    #358837 - 02/06/10 11:52 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Okay, the girls all got food and water tonight.  I'm trying out using distilled water since I've never really tried it before and would like to compare it to my previously pH'd tapwater.

Half strength bloom nutes and Nirvana went into the 2nd and 3rd 5 litre buckets of water they received this evening.  The first 5 litre bucket of water was just straight water - didn't want to apply nuted water to the dry soil...

The pots have all been now moved down off of the styrofoam pieces now as well.  I bought some nice 14" plastic saucers with 1.5" lips on them which should work well enough to catch water that goes through the drain holes.  It will be nice to have when flushing time arrives too.

Well, here are the pics since feeding.  I was going to wait until tomorrow night but had time to do it tonight so got it all done.  There's a group shot, 1 of each plant, one of the nutes i'm using and a few of some trimmed leaves I took as well.  Enjoy!

Week 1 Day 6 of Flowering [Re: Dayzt]
    #363559 - 02/13/10 12:37 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Here we are nearing the end of week 2 of flowering.  The girls have grown quite alot this past week, stretching out as expected.  Bud sites are showing more and more hairs now as the buds begin to form as the stretching slows.  They will all get straight water tonight, as they haven't had anything for close to a week when thier first 1/4 strength feeding was.  After this straight water feeding, i'm going to try and start feed/water every 3-4 days as they begin to require more moisture and can use the extra bloom nutes.

For those just joining or who may not have read this journal from the first page, please note that the 2 back plants are not Red Dragon, only the front 3 ones.  The two back plants are a bagseed plant and a Mr.Nice's Dreamtime.  The bagseed plants was never looking that great - started out okay but is looking kinda pale.  The buds are coming along nicely however and are looking to be a quicker finisher than the dragons.  The Dreamtime plant is showing similar characteristics to the other 2 Dreamtime plants I grew in my first grow - not a real pretty plant, having straggely thin leaves and not really impressive growth - but the seeds were very cheap and NOT feminized.  All 3 seeds I got from Mr.Nice ended up female though, so I'm not complaining!  The plant is a lot more healthy than it looks...the others just kinda put it and the bagseed plant to shame with thier fancy genetics!

Pic update - enjoy!!

Additional New Light! [Re: Dayzt]
    #363575 - 02/13/10 01:02 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

I was able to get another identical 600w cooltube light on ebay - same exact kit as the first one!  I plan to set up the new light in the other half of the tent and put the next batch of plants under it 6 weeks from this weekend - or whenever they look to be ready for flowering.

I've got 6 more beans germinating right now and expect to have them started by Monday.  This is what will be in the next round:

2x Barney's Farm LSD (fem)
2x Barney's Farm Crimea Blue (fem)
1x Barney's Farm Red Cherry Berry (fem)
1x bagseed (picked from about 20 seeds - chose the best looking one!)

There's also a 5-pack of Barney's Farm Vanilla Kush (fem) on it's way in the mail from Attitude seeds along with some nice freebies as listed below:

Attitude Seed Bank
------------------
5x Barney's Farm Vanilla Kush (fem)
1x GHS Super Lemon Haze (fem)
1x GHS King Kush (fem)
1x GHS Bubba Kush (fem)
1x GHS The Church (fem)
1x Dinafem Powerkush (fem)

The Vanilla Kush will be germed at the end of this month and started.  The others I'm not sure yet, but would like to create some mother plants out of those singles and then clone, clone, clone!

I agree.  Keep it up good sir.

We are at about the same day in flowering.  I am anxious to compare side by side what my grow with a 150 can do compared to people with 400's and 600's...  Obviously I can't grow big plants, but that doesn't mean you can't grow big buds.

Updated Layout [Re: Inverted]
    #364928 - 02/15/10 08:11 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Thought i'd put this up here so everyone knows who is who at this point.  The girls have moved around a bit since my last diagram so this is just a pickup reference for this point in the grow and to familiarize those who may be just joining in on this grow journal.

The two back plants have now been named:

Dreamtime - "Nails" - This plant is stragly but amazingly strong and healthy also!  It's super tough looking so that's how it got that name.

bagseed - "Mercy" - This plant was actually the biggest one at one point in veg - then it kinda went yellow and stumpy on me for a while.  I almost got rid of it at one point but showed it 'Mercy' and she's really rewarding me for it so far!

The Red Dragon plants have no specific names yet, but here's some collected info on each:

RD #1 - This is the best looking plant i've ever grown - just great looking leaf structure and overall beautiful to look at.  Buds are just starting to form and lots of pods are showing and look to explode at any time...this one will be a joy to watch for sure!  The main top held some interesting groups of 3 at each node up until now as it's splitting off as it matures and single-leaf nodes are appearing.

RD #2 - This plant was topped to create 6 nice tops and just tonight had 4 of the tops tied back a bit to help spread it out more.  There's a lot of nice buds forming in the center of this plant that I'd like to encourage to reach up higher through and join the main canopy.

RD #3 - This RD was LST'd early and is now reaping the benefits as it's spreading out more and has many nice bud formations!  I tied back one of the branches a little bit to encourage it to spread out a little on the opposite side of the direction it was tied down.

Picture Update - Start of Week 3 of Flowering [Re: Dayzt]
    #365059 - 02/16/10 01:26 AM (14 years, 2 months ago)

I took some pictures tonight right after their foliar watering. The next 'feeding' will likely be Thurs or Fri of this week depending on how light the pots are by then.

Notice in these pics how i've been thinning out the canopy a bit and spreading the plants out as much as I can to take advantage of the light as much as possible. I also tied back 4 of the branches on the topped Red Dragon in order to let more light into the center of the plant and force it to grow 'out' more and spread out as it grows up - note pics of the tied down branches.

Enjoy!!  :bigblunt:

Flowering - Day 3 of Week 3 [Re: Dayzt]
    #367051 - 02/17/10 11:52 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Gave the girls a nice dose of nutes'n'juice tonight as they received a little over 1/4 strength nutes, half Iguana Juice Grow and half Nirvana (both Advanced Nutrients products).

Feeding notes.....

Jug #1:

~12 ml AN Iguana Juice grow
~10 ml AN Nirvana
-------------
8 litres pH'd luke-warm water

Jug #2:

~5 ml AN Iguana Juice grow
~4 ml AN Nirvana
-------------
4-5 litres pH'd luke-warm water

...next time (I go by weight of the pots...) will be a straight watering, most likely in another 4-5 days from now.

Only a few more days left in week 3.  I'll get some pics this weekend yet - likely Sunday night.

- All is well and looking great!  I wasn't sure how they would respond to the largest amount of nutes they've had thus far, but no serious side-effects yet.
- A few leaves are showing some spots and a tiny bit of brown on a few leaf-tips but nothing serious.
- The bag-seed plant is looking like it will be done about 1-2 weeks before the others, as it has nicely developed buds already at this point!
- Fan leaves are noticably reaching up a lot more than before, so I take that as a good sign - I think the foliar spray was overwhelming them a bit and they seem thankful that I stopped that...lol.
- We bought a volcano vaporizer today and are now enjoying some nice blue-cheese in a whole new way!  The flavor is a lot more distinct when vaped... can't wait to try some other strains in the volcano!

Starting Week 4 of Flowering [Re: Dayzt]
    #371219 - 02/22/10 09:41 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Well, here's the latest on the Dragon ladies! Lots more white hairs coming in - the middle, most exotic looking one is the slowest one to burst it's hairs and is still not really taking off - something tells me she'll go the longest...

The bagseed plant and the Dreamtime plant are both coming along nicely but the others are much nicer looking at this point.

Here's the pic update! Enjoy!

Week 4, day 3 of Flowering [Re: MFDoom666]
    #373076 - 02/24/10 10:54 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Forgot to post last night.... gave the girls a good helping of straight pH'd water on the evening of the 23rd (last night).  Got some bottom leaves that were a little yellowed after the last nute feeding, so they will appreciate this mini-flush of straight water.

Still more and more white hairs every single day now on all of the plants.  Looking back at when I started my previous journal, the pics I took at the end of week 4 are looking very similar this time around... that's encouraging!

note: my Vanilla Kush seeds were soaked in rain-water for 24hrs and they all cracked!  I have them in moist paper-towel now for another 24hrs to get a good tap-root started and then they'll go into peat puck planters, most likely tomorrow evening!  Also have a Crimea Blue seedling that will be joining the 5 VK for my next round which will begin at the end of this month...

End of Week 5 of Flowering [Re: Dayzt]

Week 5 of flowering is now over - here's a quick picture update. I didn't post seperate pics of each plant, just a few group shots and some closeups as well as some different tops showing special characteristics among others. Lots and lots of white pistils everywhere and the buds are starting to bulk up as well.

- I'll be giving them a straight water feeding in the next few days - they're still a bit heavy from the last feeding so i'll see how they feel in the next few days as it's now been almost a full week.
- The past feeding seems to have been a little too much again - lost some more foliage to yellowing and crispy leaves, but nothing disasterous.
- The bagseed plant is pretty yellow now, but the buds are still looking nice - bulked up well and very sticky!
- The Red Dragon plants are all smelling sweeter every day. The stems near the tops all give off a very sweet smell on the hands.

...enjoy the pic update!!

Buds are looking tasty. Was considering that strain, but am going with a different breeder this next batch. Real curious to see how these girls finish and the smoke report. If you get a chance swing by my thread and check out my 600w setup. Link is in the sig.

Middle of Week 6 of Flowering [Re: Integra21]
    #381640 - 03/10/10 11:34 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

Gave the girls a straight feeding of pH'd water this evening.  Looks like i'll need to dial back the nutes for the rest of this grow - the ladies told me they're quite full!  More yellowing leaves this week, but the buds are still looking better each day as more nodes near the tops join together forming longer, bigger buds.

The bagseed plant (Mercy) is starting to show a lot of browning pistils - I'm going to check the trichs this weekend and see where we're at.  I think we're looking at it finishing close to the end of march though, with the Dreamtime plant (Nails) not far behind (possibly the first week in April)... but those dates may change if i end of leaving them to finish with the others - I may let them go and just keep them as my couch-lockers...we'll see.

Stay tuned, a pic update is coming soon - if not in the next few days, then this weekend for sure.  We're now approaching the end of week 6 of flowering!

Here's this week's picture update!  The girls are all still bulking up nicely... next watering will have some molasses in it but i'm skipping a nute feeding this time since the plants still look like they have enough.

Enjoy!!

Vanilla Kush [Re: Dayzt]
    #384381 - 03/16/10 01:14 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

Okay, here's a few pics of the Vanilla Kush I have started. It's two weeks into veg and looking really healthy! I gave them their first taste of veg nutes tonight with their rain-water (1/4 strength). They are taking off now, so hopefully I can top them soon and be taking a few clones from them in a few weeks!!

Also in this pic (the back-right plant) is a Crimea Blue plant that almost died on me after one of the main leaves fell off of it when it was a few days old..it's looking much better now though, just a bit behind the rest. I hope to clone it too - the early damage has caused it to have 3 tops developing...we'll see what she does!!

NOTE: Gave the RD and others a straight water feeding on the 16th with almost a full tbsp of molasses per gallon and a small squirt of Nirvana.

Enjoy...

Vanilla Kush - 3 days since above pics [Re: Dayzt]
    #385750 - 03/18/10 01:20 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

I know this journal is for my Red Dragon grow and the other few with them, but having these Vanilla Kush in veg at the same time, I wanted to throw this additional pic update in here to show the progression of these plants in just 3 days... quite impressed with this strain so far - looks like they'll be some very nice plants!

Please, comment on whether these look like they should be topped - the middle-back plant is stretching more than the others at this point, but it's just starting it's 5th node now, so I need to decide on whether to top/fim it now or wait a bit more...

End of Week 7 of Flowering [Re: Integra21]
    #388000 - 03/21/10 08:52 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

I can't believe it's already been 7 weeks in flower!  The ladies are lookin sexy and the next 2-3 weeks they should really swell across the finish line!!

- The bagseed plant and the Dreatime plant both received straight pH'd water this evening as they are now in 'flushing mode' as they approach thier harvest date of the first weekend in April.

- The RD gals all look to be at different stages right now but I hope to harvest them all at the same time.  I'd like to compare them afterwards so i'll know for next time how long to let them finish as get the desired result.

- FIM'd my tallest Vanilla Kush plant today so we'll see if that helps to make it easier to take clones from it.  The others will likely be tied down soon for the final few weeks before they get transplanted into the bigger pots.

....well here's this week's picture update - lots of hairs and bursting nugs!!  Got a snap of my cat in her perch and a nice sunny pic of this evening dinner as well!!  :dancer:

Week 8 of Flowering - Day 2 [Re: Triptonic]
    #389141 - 03/24/10 12:26 AM (14 years, 1 month ago)

Thanks everyone for all the comments! :thanx:

It's starting to look like the Red Dragon plants may need more than the projected 10 weeks to finish completely - we'll see how they look come April 9th or so.

The plan is to chop the bagseed plant and possibly the Dreamtime plant next weekend, as they will get a decent flushing tomorrow evening to begin their home-stretch.  If the Dreamtime plant looks like it could use more time to finish, it may get pushed ahead to the end of week 10...

End of Week 8 of Flowering [Re: Dayzt]
    #391935 - 03/28/10 11:00 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

So week 8 has now come to an end, and the two plants (bagseed (Mercy) and Dreamtime (Nails)) are still on schedule to come down this next weekend. Those two rec'd their last good flushing this past Thursday and are now on their last week without any water/food so they can dry out a bit before cutting time. (Friday or Saturday evening).

The dragons are all still givin'er - the topped plant is finally starting to fill-out a bit more and the other two are looking good - starting to show more brown/orange hairs now and getting denser each day.

Here's the pic update!

Harvest Day for bagseed plant and Dreamtime [Re: Integra21]
    #394977 - 04/03/10 12:15 AM (14 years, 25 days ago)

It's the end of week 9 of flowering and the two odd-ball plants in this grow were ready to come down.

- After about 3 hours of trimming, these two plants are now naked of leaves and hanging up to dry.

- Wet weights: bagseed - 130 grams, Dreamtime - 120 grams.....total: 250 g wet... if we lose the projected 80% of the weight after drying, we'll come in with just under 2 ounces dry. I'm hoping these won't lose quite that much, but we'll see. I think they're a bit more dense than last time so maybe we won't lose as much as that.

- Check out these pics of the first part of this grow's harvest!! The first 3 pics are the bagseed plant, the nest 4 are the Dreamtime plant and the last is a shot of them hanging.

Lots of room in the tent now for the RD gals to spread out and finish out. It looks like they are going to need until the end of next week before I start flushing. The topped plant still looks a bit behind the other two but not by more than 1 week or so...

I noticed some leaves are turning a dark color..I think it's a dark purple - my wife thinks they look almost dark red...take a look at the pics and see for yourself!

End of Week 10 of Flowering [Re: capt cap]
    #399918 - 04/11/10 10:51 PM (14 years, 17 days ago)

Close to the next harvest already!  I've done a decent flush on 2 of the 3 girls this evening and they should be ready to chop by this weekend.  The 3rd plant will probably be about 1 more week - I decided to give it as long as it needs, but it will have to share it's space with the Vanilla Kush and Crimea Blue which will begin flowering next weekend as well.

Okay, here's the pic update!  Enjoy the nice purple buds!

Thanks so much DGT!!!  I think they've turned out rather well.  Compared to some other RD journals i've seen online, they're not quite as top-heavy, but I still anticipate a yield of about 1.5 oz per plant..we'll see!  The purple leaves/buds are just a bonus...I think I lucked out with that pheno, as the other ones don't have ANY purple on them and I haven't seen any other reports of this strain getting this dark!

End of Week 11 - Harvest [Re: Dayzt]

Okay, 2 out of 3 of the RD plants have been chopped, trimmed and are now drying.  The two plants names are 'Queen' and 'Ruby'.  Here's some pictures that were taken during the harvest.  I'll follow up with a few more pics of the last plant's harvest in a few weeks as well...

End of Week 12 + 2 days - Harvest of Red Castle [Re: Dayzt]
    #407851 - 04/27/10 10:52 PM (14 years, 1 day ago)

Okay, this is it folks - the last red dragon plants is now chopped, trimmed and hanging to dry!  She was extremely dry when I cut her, as she didn't get any water for close to two weeks straight.  The leaves were mostly drooping completely down, so very little moisture was left in the plant when it came down.

Check out the pics!  Her wet weight was 85 grams but I don't think we'll loose nearly as much weight once it's finished drying as the others - time will tell!

Since the harvest was broken up into 3 seperate times (first time was the bagseed and Dreamtime, second time was the first two RD and the last time was the last RD plant...), I don't officially have a grand total for dry weight, but the first two RD plants yielded around an ounce and a half each while the last one had a wet weight of 85 grams.  The last one was SO dry at the end though, that I doubt it will lose as much weight as the others did during drying (%80), so I do anticipate getting over an ounce from the last one which would bring the grand total of the RD plants to about 4 - 4.5 oz.  The bagseed plant ended up being just under 1.25 ounces and the Dreamtime plant was just under 1 oz....

RD - ~4.25 oz
Dreamtime  -  .95 oz
bagseed  -  1.20 oz
----------------------
Grand total dry weight...... ~6.4 oz

....not bad for 5 plants - not awesome, but considering what we smoke, it's awesome!  We'll have plenty to smoke until the next harvest - my Vanilla Kush should be ready to go in about 8-9 weeks!!!

Smoke Report:

Really, it's too soon to give an accurate smoke report since it's not really fair to judge it whilst it's still curing...but what we've sampled so far is some very potent product, uplifting and hard-hitting at first, very eye-opening and conversational...then it eases out into a nice soft stone that makes for a wonderful evening followed by a knock-out sleep!  =)

Once these girls have had a few more weeks to cure, i'll post another smoke report that will be more about the taste and longevity that we're waiting to see this strain show.  There's a sweet taste to it now, but it's one that you can sense is struggling to come out, which we're hoping to taste more of in the coming month... :bigblunt:  :leaf:
