Nobody can explain that.
Perhaps it is our responsibility, but we live in a largely apathetic society right now. The gov't has given us television and internet, and most of society just rolls over. In this thread, you're just as guilty as the next guy, you've been allowed to vent in a friendly atmosphere, and I'd wager that's as far as you'll take it. Maybe you'll talk to your friends about it, but nobody protests anymore, nobody takes action.
We live in the era of a war that has gone on longer and taken more lives than Vietnam, and how many national newsworthy demonstrations have you seen? How many marches on the capitol? How much dissent anywhere other than the polls on the news, or rants on the internet?

what exactly do you suggest?
should I stand in the middle of the streets of DC with a sign and a young pot plant? make sure it hits the news and then they arrest me so we can get this in the court systems to try and change the law?
