I like BOGs strains but find him to be one of the most overrated breeders out. Example: How do you cross a White Label Bubble Gum female and a White Label Bubble Gum male and get a whole new strain out of it. Then start selling seeds of that strain for more then the original White Label seeds.
This is Blockhead
Purple Kush
Grandaddy Purple
A lot of strains are gonna look killer in pics and crap. Read up on the strains and find grow reports from people that have grown the strains. Find out how they smell, taste and type of high and you'll be much happier in the long run. Who knows the strain ya might be looking for may just be the Sour Bubble.

I think this depends on the breeder to some degree though. In fairness to BOG and the proponents of his seeds (of which there are many), selection is the major determining factor in the end quality of product. Take RezDog of Reservoir Seeds for instance: This guy has never worked with an original/landrace strain in his life, he relies on his skill of selection and subsequent crossing, and he has some of the most popular strains on the market today. That said, I haven't had the opportunity to grow any BOG strains until now, so I will wait to pass final judgement until I have experienced it for myself.

I hear ya but I've know the Bogster for some time. My brother is very good friends with him and I've grown his gear. Here is some of his lifesaver. Like myself his whole family is into the trade.
These are hjs lifesaver
Now let me let you in on his breeding tech. He puts a male plant in the middle of the room and surrounds it with females then shakes the male plant.

Good technique, simple yet effective. I'll give this a go when I have enough willing ladies.
That was a joke right? Or am I just too baked.

I think he's just saying the BOG strains are over rated in his opinion. I won't have an opinion for several months, like you. That blockhead magash posted makes me drool every time i see it. I wouldn't mind working with that one in the future. Looks like it has a huge calyx to leaf ratio.

BOG has good strains. My dad is a picky old fart who has to have every little thing just right, He likes BOGs strains but no he didn't think any were worth keeping as permanent mothers. I would have kept a couple but if one little thing is wrong with the strain he bails on it.

what didnt your pops find to his liking if i may ask-also what has he kept?...im thinkin of gettin some BOG but its been pointed out WLBG X WLBG cant give u more than WLBG...and im not shitting on selection- shit thats where its at, buts White Label has been makin BG since '93 i believe so I'd assume the genetic is fairly stable-making selection somewhat easier IMO...then again i really dunno- and still drool over BOGS stuff everytime i see it.

Most breeders don't rip off other peoples strains. (okay, well I suppose that's a bit silly to say). Reservoir finds highly guarded strains and works with them without permission. Such as his SFV, Chemdog, Blueberry(although not highly guarded)
I don't know how popular I'd say he is. I mean he has a release 2-3 times a year and it sells out quick but how many packs is he selling? (I doubt anyone but him and GN/Dutch knows) I mean Trinity was his biggest sale and it was only a few pages of listings on seedbay.
I thought the concept was neat that he essentially gives you a grab bag of elites but that concept quickly dwindles once you find out his shit isn't close to stable, it tosses nanners, and he's not really providing anything others don't already.
His upstaging of his own strains ripping on other breeders is fairly lame too. If he was the authority on dank I think he would keep around a few workings for continual releases, no one is going to make a few great strains on there own each year.
He would be a lot more unique if he had actually been granted permission to use the chemdog strains and was the only one able to. Since a few breeders have been handed the cuts to work with.
I ran a few packs of his double strawberry diesel and couldn't give away the seeds I didn't use.

At the risk of sounding ignorant, I thought that strains at this point were basically a 'free for all' as far as breeding goes. You got a cutting or a seed then grow it out and breed it however you want if you want. I get a different understanding from your post koons. I can understand the respect that goes into stabilizing a strain but imo i think the strains are just out there for the betterment of the plant, not the breeder.

You are entitled to your own opinion, more precisely your own set of moral values.
A more condensed and strong version of my thoughts would be. I like Simon at Serious seeds, he took the Indiana bubblegum clone and isolated a great representation of it. Reservoir on the other hand does minimal selection and releases pollen chucking plants that may be dank if you ever manage to find all the nanners before the seed the shit out of your weed.
As far as the argument on clones or genetics goes.. it's going to be a matter of your personal morals personally I think that a breeder should get a royalty for all of his work if and only if he allows another breeder to work with his genetics. Everyone ripping off each others work doesn't really better the plant, it tosses flavors around and narrows gene pools. It betters the plant if everyone goes out and works with landraces and even those basic building blocks of weed like the Skunk, Haze, and Afghani.
I'm not saying my opinion is the best, it's what it is... my personal opinion on the situation.
I do respect Reservoirs IBL's assuming they turn out well. His Sour Diesel and Chemdog are supposed to be good. I may even give his seeds another shot. It won't change what I think of his business practices.

The guy who know his shit is Steve at Spice of life. You can almost guarantee that if you get a female plant from his seeds it's good enough to make a mother. He has the best eye for selecting parent plants period.

Coda, Magash, what are your thoughts on DJ Short and/or Shantibaba in terms of their quality as breeders. I think Shanti is kind of above reproach, but I don't know much about DJ except what I've heard about his individual strains.

I'm going to be working on Chocolope, Matanuska Tundra, Matanuska Mist, my ol' white widow. If I can keep busy enough and avoid the DSD maybe ill send you them :P

I think they are new hybrids of the stock that shanti normally uses. Its always a combination of his classics...Neville's Haze, SSH, Mango Haze, NL, etc. I don't think there will be genetics in there that we haven't seen from Shanti before, just a different combination.

Well im sure he has various skunkxhaze nl xhaze nl x skunk selections.
I guess time will tell if these are hybrids of his previous workings or new workings entirely.
They could be hybrids, time will tell.

This is one of the good ones.....BOG's stuff can be a hit or miss but grown right, the SBBX3 can be straight-up FIRE. I just made some pollen(STS)from another kick-ass strain,The White and hit up a SBBX3 clone I had.....excellent beans, crazy hybrid vigour...soon to finish.Testers available.
