 Growery Marketing Submissions Thread

Hey Growery!
Coming up here very soon we're gonna start a big marketing campaign to bring new members to the Growery.
The first phase is going to be distribution of some 4x6 cards at various events including concerts, festivals, and cannabis related rallies.
We'll talk more about the details once they're printed, but
WE WANT THE MEMBERS HERE TO GET INVOLVED!
So, those of you who are so inclined, please use this thread to submit your idea for the advertising cards.
The card will have two sides, the front should be eye catching and can be anything from personal art, to photoshop work, or anything else you can think of. The front should have "The Growery" somewhere on it, and possibly the "Marijuana Demystified" phrase found on the homepage.
The back should have some references or bullet points regarding what we're all about: Cultivation, Activism, Socializing, etc...use your imagination.
Let's see what kind of talent we've got floating around here Growery!

I have a great idea, someone send me an ounce or so of really heady buds and ill split it all up into half grams and give it out and say hey dude if you want more for free register on this site (hand card) and shoot me a PM 
in fact, if 10 of you sent me ounces that would just be that many more people that would be on the growery

yeah.... I am a little bit concerned also about advertising in my area for that same reason. if it becomes popular with stoners, it's very likely to become popular with police as well

 I'm really not too concerned with that aspect of the campaign. That's a risk the admins decided to take when they created the site. We aren't a site that promotes the free exchange of how to acquire drugs. We are here to provide information, share knowledge and experiences, not telling people how to score. That should be evident in anything we create for public display.

let's all stay inside the house so we don't get hit by a car. It seems like that kind of logic to me. You have to take some risks. The larger our scope of distribution the better. More suggestions?

All I'm saying is that if you pass out your flyers to a bunch of random people and you say that you passed them out at a concert chances are those people will know who you are. And if they happen to be cops they might be able to find you. And if you grow they could find that too.

I understand the risks. I'm not that paranoid about it.  I would think it would be difficult to associate a person posting here as being the exact person that handed you the ad/flyer. Maybe that was my girlfriend that handed you the flyer, or a friend that doesn't have an account, or a bum that I hired? There are lots of ways to protect your online identity. We just have to be intelligent about the operation. But im curious to see what everyone else says about this.

If you think that LEO isn't lurking the Shroomery, ICMag, Rollitup, and yes eventually the Growery, then I've got a bridge in California to sell ya.
We are here to spread information, and we recognize, and try to minimize, the risk that we take.
I hope that at least some of us feel that the risk is worth the opportunity to stop the spread of much misinformation.

Don't forget the 'rate my pipe' section. That could be a big drawing point. We had discussed previously that if we are going to include a picture of some bud with it then it should def. be from someone here. Harry's is great and so are geo's.

easy does it. The submissions we've had don't appear to be a finished professional product. (don't take offense to that guys.) Surely someone here has some photoshop skills. I got photoshop creative suite 4 last night so now i can fuck with this shit for real. It's been a few years since ive used it but i'll give it a shot with this picture to start...
Anyone have a good picture from a grower on this site that has a lot of purple and other colors in it?

Agreed, I wanted to use what we had to (like I said in the earlier post) get a quote so that we would have a general idea of the cost; not because that's what we are necessarily going to use.

Okay...this is very rough, I just scanned this in.
So the front would look like a modified version of the homepage, and the back is a brief synopsis of what we do.
The scribble there is whatever bud shot is chosen, and can be incorporated however you want to do it.
The back could have pics, or it could just be a solid green with the text over it.

I like the bud that Harry posted by Acidic Sloth, but it the background needs to be cropped out, and the bud needs to be kind of integrated into the card so that it doesn't just look like a box on the card with a picture in it.

I got a photoshop book and have been reading it for the past couple hours. Gonna try to become proficient with it over the next week. I think i've got some cool ideas on the layering and text though.

Maybe shrink the font size a bit and move it up so that "activism" doesn't look like its sitting on the bottom of the card.
Still not sure how I feel about the font...can you try it with something like a copperplate?

Let's see a dark green to light green gradient. I know there's a lot of green there already, but maybe pick up the darkest green from one of those fan leaves and fade it down to the lime green of the buds.

I was also reading through this ebook and it was discussing what color schemes to use. It mentioned that the CMYK configuration is preferred for printing mediums as opposed to the RGB which is preferred for computer display. I also downloaded a how to book for guerilla marketing and a few others that might be relavent for this endevour. I think it would be to our advantage to take it slow and revise things over and over. Presentation is everything. It's our first and only impression. it must be done right.

It looks better but my main complaint is the text. It looks too blocky/generic. I was thinking about developing some letters using cannabis leaves. take out that background and add some layers with different colors of pot leafs (colors that match the bud). I think its also important that all the colors match and don't appear out of place. Just imagine your finished product as an advertisement in a magazine like high times or Time magazine or something a lot of people will see. Would you be proud of your work? lol argue the text with 81 he wanted something more generic I believe. I personally think it looks pretty good. Very pleasing to the eye. The orange and the green in the lettering is from the buds themselves.

Yeah, to me, it isn't generic, its professional.
The rounded gimmicky fonts scream amateur to me.
I do want to see us strive for the best possible designs that each participant can put out there, so here's my thought:
1 month from today is the deadline for submissions.
From now until the 25th of October, feel free to post up what you have for critiques and suggestions from the members.
All designs can be edited and revamped up until the 25th at which time there will be a one week long voting booth.
The selected design will appear on the card to be distributed as the first phase of our marketing campaign.
Thoughts? Comments?

Alright guys, I love doing these like this so I will put a good amount of time to the side to do this, right now I am thinking this is how I would make the cards.
Front side would just say "The Growery", background would be purple and I would have a pattern going on in a greenish type color, then you would flip the card over and it would have some information about the site.
I could pass them out at the next big weed related event in Austin, Oct 2nd I think.
I'll post back here when I have the design and stuff planned out.
Someone give me some tips for the back info though.

I'm thinking that we should keep all the submissions so far, and instead of just modifying one, make a bunch and choose the best several. So keep the text that ren81 likes and then a less generic (or professional  ) style also. We should print up a bunch of different things, some business cards for dispensary and headshop counters, some flyers and some magazine ads.
diversifying instead of just picking one "best" is the best option for maximum viewership

Here's an example of what I think we should be looking for with regards to the professional presentation.
Imagine a nice bud where the ladies head is with pot leaves instead of all those other stupid designs. Something like that would be really neat. Just reading through this photoshop book im getting a lot of ideas. I can't focus on this tonight due to preparation for tomorrows activities.

Like I said before I still think the lettering is too generic. I am going to take a picture of one of the best pot leafs i have in my garden and photoshop the blades into letters. I can't wait to put more time into this instead of just talking about it. I just don't have the knowledge yet.

I just got the Creative Suite 4 package (im told it's the newest one). I'm planning on making this a serious time commitment. Plus it's just good to have those kind of skills and this is a GREAT project for us ALL to develop those skills.

It really seems like an intuitive program. I used to have an old version in college. I couldn't do anything with it. I used it to do basic things and goof around. when i was working on my thesis I was involved in a program that grouped me with an industrial designer, graphic designer, and engineer to develop a product. That was an eye opening experience for a lot of reasons. What those designers were capable of just blew me away. Anyway, they introduced me to photoshop. i was focused on other stuff so never really learned it. Add some layers to that pic man. fancy it up!

Here's a subtle change that might make a bit of a difference. If you click the eyedropper tool and then click on a part of the green in the bud that most closely matches thee green in the end of "growERY" it will select that exact color to be your foreground color. From there you should be able to make that same color transfer to the ERY part.

It might be prettier,although I dont think so. But the one being used is better for our purposes. Its an off to the side picture, which leaves room for words. Overall it would take away from the bud if we put words over the top of it.

I love that ribbon you added with our addy on there. I was thinking about using that bud of Acidic sloths or the one from Agnomste (Sp?) or even one of integras and that one that harry used earlier. Those are all quality pics. The issue i have with Sloth's are thee number of leaves present. I was going to try to use one of the photoshop tools to try to eliminatee thee leaves and replace theem with bud portions. Idk how to do that yeet though. i know its possible though.

She's back, somewhat. studying gradients now. im hoping to be done with this book this weekend. this weekend begins the balloon festival! I was thinking about a project I did in college. Basically we designed a product that was 'good' for society and the environment. We then developed a business around this concept and had lined up manufacturers and all sorts of shit and were ready to go. Anyway, part of our marketing for this product/company was to develop a color palette for everything. So I will put this together now. It won't be that hard. lol I was going to use some trippy artwork. Instead of a bud shot. I think a bud shot on the back and the front would be alright. But why not use something sweet. Or like the fear and loathing pic lol. That would be funny.

I was thinking about taking Acidic sloths SSH bud from the page before and duplicating that all over thee back to form a back ground. Then darken it a bit (perhaps with a filter layer) and fade it's color. Then you can put some words over that. Ren and I already made suggestions on what to put on the back. I suggested what's on the front page and rens was a variation of that i think.

But see it doesnt matter what the color pallete is on the page its the color pallete from sloths pic that you need to worry about.

you don't have to go by that. I mainly did that for myself. I want to match the front page with the colors. Peoples first impression of the website isn't going to be sloths pic. as a background pattern it would be cool, but in my opinion it shouldn't be vibrant as it is now. That would really detract from the words you are going to put on the back. On thee front the bud is the centerpieece. probably wouldnt be best to have it liek that on both sides, ya reckon?

ok, not sure what that's all about.
I used one of the tools on this picture to separate the bud pic from the background. Then I added a black background layer. Just about to learn how to do text now! I just wanted to see how this would work with me uploading these docs. It looks pretty much the same as thee original pic. I also learned a bit more about taking pictures. Tonight for my grow journal update i think i will take the pictures in 'raw' format and add an FB or something to the pics. weell seeee..

It came from a seed! A seed that I found in a bag of some really shitty weed. You can log the progress I made last Winter/spring on it here:

Yeah, i compiled a majority of those pics and most aren't from here. It's a hell of a look through if you've got 15-20 minutes to kill. it's got the top POTM winners from each month though. except the last few months atm. i'll add em later.
