i just drew this, i promise my artistic abilities are much better than that, i just wanted to create some inspiration for dwc.

i want to build this and put it outside. it'd be just like an outdoor fountain, only cascading down pvc with mesh pots and mj plants

I have never seen a setup like that in real life. Don't look practical for indoor but man would something like that sure look cool! You have any pics of a hydro setup thats really like the one you illustrated?

Well i have gotten started on this
still need net pots.

I used 40 mm pipe for the thingo to drain the spent nutrients same for the port to top back up.
id rather used a lot smaller but thats all the hardware had.

once i get some net pots and aluminum tape i am done shit cost $30 a roll though, so yeah pics soon once i borrow a cam :tongue2:

Find a way to secure your airstone to the bottom of the bucket, but make sure it's removable. They need to be cleaned up every so often. If you don't secure them, they just flop around all over the bottom of the bucket.

Also, drill your hole for the air line just below the lid in the BUCKET, not through the lid. I learned that the hard way.

Hey thanks for the advice
yeah i had planed to make one out of a bit of PVC it wont float already tested it.

I plan to drill the holes on the side of the bucket about 2-3 cm underneath the lid.

so Premedman how did your DWC grow go ?

i don't believe so?  IIRC the roots are supposed to grow down towards the water?  I'm not too brushed up on my hydro though so i can't answer for certain.

if the water does not reach the pot then how do the plants get water before the roots reach the water?  do you have to keep the level higher in the beginning then lower it?

If your air pump is up to standard then it will cause enough mist from the bursting bubbles to keep the media and the roots in the net pot soaked, that is one of the reasons you need a good quality high volume air pump.

I believe you do have to keep the water level higher in the beginning before the roots come out of the bottom of the net pot, but not too high. I think what worked was keeping the level just about half way up or at the first (bottom most) "rung" of the net pot if you know what I mean.  But once a couple roots come down you can drop the water level.

Last time I did a DWC system with two rectangular buckets with two plants in each bucket, it was a pain in the ass because the roots got tangled and one had root rot so we had to try and untangle them, it was no fun.  So now I'm doing individual buckets.:tongue2: Hopefully the multiple plant per bucket thing will work out better for you.

You may look up the NFT method of hydroponic cultivation for inspiration. I think it obsolete now, with the advent of "better" technology. Good luck.

NFT = Nutrient Film Transfer.
