It's almost time for my second grow to get underway. I am super excited about this one. I've got some good plans for this one. I will germinate the seeds on 07/22/09. That is two weeks from today. The next two weeks I will be preparing. Gathering additinal equipment and materials and what not. I would start it today but I have to be out of town for five days in mid July and don't want to deal with that like I did last year. I am not sure how many plants I am going to grow. I think i only have 8 seeds total (all GDP except for one OG Kush that fell out of the bud in the picture below).
I need a 400w MH bulb and more rockwool. I know i need other things too but those are just off the top of my head. My stuff is in storage so I will need to remove all that soon too.
HERE ARE ALL THE WEEKLY UPDATES BUT NOT ALL THE PICTURES:

I saw my camera sitting right there so I snapped a few of the babies for ya'll. Each picture is a different plant and the first is OG Kush and the rest are GDP. 7 total. One GDP is missing but looks similar to the others. There's only one runt at this point. You know which one.

It's also 50" tall. You will see the pictures. I will probably cut off a few inches of the pipe. we'll see. Also, just so everyone is aware. I will only update the original post's subject with the date when i post a full update with pictures (saturdays). ppm is at 800 now. I changed the rez and ran a flush through the plants for about 30 minutes. As you can see i also put up mylar. I will finish putting it up tomorrow. For now you can see what i spent the last few hours on. also, i can't fucking remember if i said this earlier. I got another ballast and mh and hps bulbs today which should be here in a week or two. Next i will get a reflector. As you can see in the pictures the plants are growing just as I would expect for a GDP. In case you guys missed it I came across these seeds on craigslist. Some guy in Cali had a posting about selling GDP seeds so i called him up and he sent me these 7 seeds. He showed me a link to his youtube vid of the herb and it looked fucking spectacular. Special Update Day 24
I tried to fim a plant tonight. It is the plant that is farthest along. It was working on it's 6th and 7th node when i circumsized it.
I took a real close look at this picture as I prepared my cut line. I used a pair of small unused scissors. I sanitized them and used gloves. A lot of teks recommend bending a razor to make the cut but i figured i'd just wing it.
^The one I topped (fim) was the the one in the far back left.
 
^You can see the shadow of my finger on the leaf from the reflection of the mylar. 
 
 
Update Day 28
The red eyes indicate a fimmed plant in the first two pictures.

  Day Day 42, Flowering Day 2     As Soon as i have i'd the sex of all the plants i will add the screen. Day Day 49, Flowering Day 9           Day Day 56, Flowering Day 16             Day Day 63, Flowering Day 23          ^Those first three are the bud leaf. As I stated earlier it literally couldn't be in a more awkward spot for me to get to. These plants have filled up half of this closet now. That third picture are a few buds from the bud leaf plant.    These pictures are from 10/03/09.Day Day 70, Flowering Day 30         These next one's show some bud leaf. I've spotted three different leafs that are producing calyx's and trichome covered leaves. Weird.      ^That's all those. The last two you have to look on the far left hand side to see the development. Like i said, it's almost impossible to get back there and a picture taken. Alright dude! I think it's coming together pretty well. It took me a good month or 2 to get dialed in to growing again... It's like an art.
Edit: Those buds in the jar look F-ing fantastic!!! Lucky guy, that seed will almost surely bring you a female! At least in my exp. that's what happens when you get a lone seed in bud like that.

Inverted, i hope you're right about the females. Even if i can get one female I plan on stressing it down with a scrog and trying to get the whole screen filled.

I have so much to do in the grow room. will have an air cooled reflector in the next grow and a new T5 light for clones,moms and seed making.
I can't wait to play with my new toys.
Going to pull up a chair and watch.

Funny you should mention that. I was just looking at my grow area and it's completely full of junk. clothes, lots of wine, golf shit, camping gear, etc. it's going to take me a while to get it all out of there and situated the way I had it for the last grow. I'm going to keep it basically the same, but am thinking about adding mylar up around it. The next couple weeks will be interesting. I've acquired even more shit since the last grow and my place is kinda small. Once again, here's a copy of the floor plan....
Will be using the same equipment as well...
For the first week or so I will use the florescent tubes then switch to the mh when i think they can handle it. I will add nutrients sooner this time than i did in my first grow. Maybe around the time I change to the MH light. any thoughts?

Started the germination process today. I also removed a ton of shit from my closet and replaced it with my grow stuff. Just got back from the first four tool shows and am exhausted and will post more later on...

I checked the seeds a few hours ago. Already, 5 of the 8 seeds have at least cracked through the seed. They already seem eager to grow. I moved them to a moist washcloth. After a 24 hour soak.

7 of the 8 have broken out now and I have got my shit about half set up. I am deliberating on which way to position the tray. I can face it to the south or facing to the west like it was last time.
I need a lot more stuff than i initially thought. which is a problem since i almost literally spent all my money on tool tickets and flights and posters and shit. First thing I need are rockwool cubes. Then nutes. I will make a list tomorrow and go to the store to get my minimum requirements. I will also be spending my saturday cleaning everything. it's going to be a real pain cleaning all those hydroton pellets. Not sure how i am going to do that just yet.

yeah its not fun cleaning hydroton....i usually dump them all in the bathtub with hot ass water. then i get a speghetti strainer and fill it up, run a little more hot ass water over them before i strain them out and dump them in an empty bin......

DAY 1
I woke up this morning with a killer headache and a nasty sore throat. I took a nap and my headache is gone. Sore throat is sticking around though. The last thing i wanted to do was clean that hydroton when i had my headache. I can do it tonight now. I went to the hydro store and got rockwool and some t12 lights - 40w and 3,300 lumens and 4100k each. The other ones i have are the same. I went to the hydrostore 2x. The first time i got half of what i needed. I had a list too. Anyway, its not a far drive and i got my shit. They are charging $28 for a quart of FloraNova Grow formula. I couldn't believe it. I can't even afford that right now. lol. Oh well i get paid this week. I will see if i can find it cheaper online. Im sure i can. So, tonight I will dunk the cubes for a bit and place the sprouts inside them. I will also clean all the hydroton and let it dry out again overnight. If there is time left tonight I will clean the other stuff from last grow too. The tray, air and water pumps, hoses, etc. I will show you all some pictures of the sprouts when there's something to see i guess. I took some pictures of the set up last night and will post those in a few hours. I still haven't decided which way to orient the tray. I will set up the lights quickly and take a few pictures so that i can gather YOUR input over the next week or so.

Alright! The first original pictures of this grow log are here. This weekend has been a lot of work getting shit cleaned up. The hydroton is fucking brand new now.

all but two of the little ones have raised up and naturally dropped the seed coating to the ground. There's one seed that has yet to pop out of the soil and another one that is hanging low to the ground. My plan is to lower the four lights to within inches of the tops of the plants for the next week. Then i will introduce a metal halide bulb.

The shows were great! The setlist is basically the same, minus Wings/10k days. The visual presentation is a bit different. I loved every show. Everyone should see tool before they die. Life simply isn't complete without that kind of experience. Anyway, the little seedlings are doing great. some of them already have roots sticking through the bottom of the small rockwool cubes. I will probably put them all into bigger cubes at the same time. Then I will put em in their final place in a week or so. Then I can add the MH Bulb and be on our way. I plan on doing fim'n all the plants. I think i will do that right before flowering. Actually I will reread that training thread and see what I should do after that information is absorbed again. All eight of the plants are above ground and looking sharp! I can see growth in the tiny leaves already. I'll take some pictures when they aren't babies. fuckin pedos!

I think I will also run a contest on this grow. It will be a 'guess the dry weight' contest. I will display a picture of the harvest after it's done. THen allow a certain timeline for people to submit their guesses regarding the dry weight. Don't ask what the winner gets because i don't know. :P at the shroomery i would give out prints, but im not going to break the law for a contestant winner with this one.

I have been leaving the lights on 24/7 at about 3 inches above the top of the plants. Most of them stretched more than I wanted and when i woke up this morning one of them was laying over on its side. I managed to prop it up and now it's basking in the marshmellowey lights of the t12s. it's reoriented itself a bit and I think i will be able to maintain it to maturity. The roots are all coming out of the bottom now and are ready for placement into a bigger rockwool cube. I will do that tonight. The roots are going gangbusters.  There should be a root gremlin.

hey now, i just looked at your kush's and they look like they are about a week ahead. It looks like a big difference though.
Got the Metal halide bulb this past weekend. I will probably be installing it before this week is done. Saturday will be 2 weeks they have been in the rockwool. Roots already growing out of the larger cubes. Next step is to place each of these plants into the buckets I've prepared and put up the light. I will probably want to do this like on saturday so that I can constantly monitor it for 48 hours in order to get the distance right. Just dont want to burn my babies. I will also add that the runt of this litter has really shaped up to be one of the nicer looking plants. late bloomer i guess.

I see you are going with metal hallide. In your opinion if somebody was to pick a single light to veg/flower with would you go with a MH or an HPS?

Grizvok - as the thread title says, this is my second grow and I still have a ton to learn. That's a question i don't have an answer to though. I think ben is right though, if i had to guess. You can veg ur plants under cfl or even some t12's. They will do the vegin job just fine. YOu'd probably want an hps for flowering though. So i'd say go with the hps for those reasons.
It'd be nice to have two different rooms so I could do some experimenting to see if there is a real visible difference. I bet someone out there has an experimentation log that documents the differences. I'd love to do that and get all mad scientist on it (Or see someone here who's got time and equipment).

The reason I say HPS is because you are growing the crop for the bud. HPS lights focus on the flower production. (with in the light spectrum) They also have a sufficient amount of blue light for vegetative growth.
This being said ideally you could have a MH for veg and a HPS for flowering but is all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
so I think either way you would be fine with the MH but for optimum THC I would go with the HPS

The plants have really gotten noticeably bigger over the last 2 days or so. things are looking good. All plants have a great root structure developing. I will put them under the MH on saturday morning and spend a lot of the day watching it to make sure it's at the right level. I'll update it on Saturday after i get everything all set up.

Yeah my research has led me to this method of using the t12's for the first two weeks. That's all that's really needed to start em off right. On saturday the plants will be 2 weeks old. I will do some more research to refresh my memory about light hight.

and lets face it, I only have so many pics because it is more than one grow in my log(WW, Outdoor Piss, and now Mystic,Mango,Mazar) and showing the mothers status and grow room changes. All not needed but I feel it helps people better understand and helps them replicate it if they like it.

i feel ya on that. It is good to give the audience a sense of the space you are working with and the equipment too. I see a lot of logs where all the pictures are of the plants only. I like my logs loaded with pics. Sometimes I try to follow too many at once and just end up all mind fucked over who's where and growing what using what equipment after a week or so. but ya, i have enjoyed watching your log develop over the last few months. shit turned out wonderful!

a Sony CyberShot 8.1mp that has had the settings tweaked by an old ammature photographer, me. Took me forever to get it set how I like(wife's camera, Mine uses film). But all of the pics are strait off of the camera, no photoshop, even though some of them look like it.

Right on. they make some really good point and shoot cameras these days. I've got an old HP that shoots at like 3 MP and i used that for the first part of my last grow then in Feb. i got a digital slr. I am still learning how to use it. I am really not too happy with the quality of the pictures I've been taking since I got the thing. Hopefully I can figure out this aperture shit.

They're porous stone like balls. Very light. They soak up nutrient solution that is probably poured through from some kind of top feeding water pump. The roots of the plant grow throughout it. So they get support for the plant, and can feed on the nutrient solution. And take in water.

yep! I like em. I just don't like having to clean them. I don't think i posted a picture of my bedroom floor covered with those little pellets. I had an air mattress that i turned upside down (not inflated) and layed dozens of towels on top and took the pellets from an h202 and h20 soak to the rinse station then drained them then threw them on top of the towels and put a couple fans on em to dry em out. After I did that with approx. 100 liters of the things I threw them back and forth and uncovered bottom ones and just got em all dry then put them into baskets by hand so that if any roots were still on them from the last grow they could be taken off. Needless to say, it took a long time. But i had my music and weed! buddy's right about em though. You can look up 'Hydroton' or 'explanded clay pellets' and find a bunch of stuff on them. A lot of hydroponic growers use this medium as opposed to say a deep water culture system (DWC) which just suspends the roots and shoots them with nutrient solution every so often.
Also, the reason i haven't shown that picture is because i had a ton of other shit in there that's in the pictures that i dont want to publish. I set up the MH light today and took down the other two lights. I've had the light up for a good 4.5 hours now and the temps have fluctuated between 76-78 degrees. I think that's ok for now. it's harder than i thought it would be to cool that room down. I've got a fan blowing in there now. I am about to flush this thing out. I am going to run some clean water (ph adjusted to 5.8) through it so that any residue left on the clay pellets won't be introduced into the active circulation cycles. I did this last grow to. Just a common sense step. Although I think the nutrient solution I use makes more of a mess than anything else. It's good shit though. GH FloraNova Grow. Pictures will be put up later on tonight. Just for the info, they are expanded clay pelets that are called Hydrotron and they hold no nutrients, thats why they work so well for hydro. If they soaked nutrients up, it would burn your plants over night.

Hydro mediums generally never are meant to hold nutrients. The ways they work differ and have great variety, but all work on the same basic principal. In DCW buckets(like mine) hydrotron is just there for the roots to have something to hold on to while roots dangle into an aerated reservoir and the root ball in the tank is how nutrients are absorbed. In top feed systems, same where medium is just something for the roots to grow in and a nutrient solution is on a constant drip that runs through the medium and the roots absorb what they need. The list goes on and on, but the idea stays the same. The medium is just there to establish a footing for the plant, and all nutrients are constantly supplied from a reservoir or tank.

I will not be running a constant drip. But it will be a top feed set up. I just set it all up and ran some good clean water through it. Now im going to refill it and add some nutes and start the cycle.

I changed the setup a bit from last grow. Just the orientation of the tray. I also put in a make-shift bench which is nice to have in there when mixing up the nutes and taking measurements and doing adjustments. The light will be on 18/6 and is a bit above 3 feet from the plants. As i said the temp hovers between 76 and 78 with the light on. I'm curious to see what kind of growth these things get over the next few weeks of vegging. I added nutes and they are at 400 ppm. the water itself was at 150 ppm. feedings will be 2x per day for 30 min at a time. I will update this thing with pictures on Saturdays. Seeing the whole setup you've got there I'm very impressed. Looks like you've got an air cooled light too. How come you don't have an extractor fan hooked up? Your temps are nice and low too. Damn nice setup, I'll be watching this one. Hey I got the same thermometer. What do you make of it? I'm not sure I can trust the outdoor sensor on it.

Thanks! I used it in my last grow and have noticed that it's a really popular light at hydro stores. I've not been given a reason to distrust the outdoor setting. That's the one I typically use as I hang that sensor from the top of the light and leave the sensor suspended at the canopy level. There is nothing to cool it down in there except a single fan and a deionizer. Last grow I didn't need anything else to control the heat or the smell. I tried to do it using minimal materials and it worked out. My biggest fear is the smell that I anticipate these plants to develop. I don't have anything to extract the air out of the room, but i just leave the door open all day and blow new air into the room using a regular fan.

Very reasonable. I'm still keeping my eye out for second hand lights. A guy had a 150w flourescent and lampholder advertised for 20 euro, but it was 200 miles away. Might see if he's still selling it in next few days. A good bit of kit cheaps the best thing in the world.

I woke up this morning and the temps in the grow room were 85 degrees where the plants are. not good. I came home this evening and checked the mins/max and the temps were between 73 with lights out for 6 hours and up to 93! Well. I think i am goign to try somethings here to get it cooler in the bedroom area. There's only one vent in there for the air to come in and two in the main living area so it's cold as fuck in here (living room) but much hotter in the other room. My bed is in the living room so I leave the closet door open when I sleep but I close the bedroom door to block the light. I am going to take up the vents in this room and see if that helps the temps.

What does high temps do? mine been floating in the 80's and 90's all through the last few weeks. Flowering seems to be going well for me. Have you added those lights you were talking about?

I added my one and only 400watt metal halide light on Saturday. That was the day 14 update. That's the only light I have planned on using. If I get another one it will be an unplanned spontaneous purchase. i guess that's redundant. w/e. I noticed that the end of the leaves on some plants were curling upward. That's a sign they are too hot. Hopefully over the next hour or so that room gets really cold. i'd LOVE to be able to get it down to 65 in there. I wouldn't keep it there now though. i think 73-75 is a good range to keep it in.

Ah I see. Leaves movint to an angle that's not 90 degrees to the lightsource so there's less light intensity per surface area of the plant. Phototropic. Makes sense.

I just checked the room again and it's a nice 73 degrees. I will reset the therm. and check the max/min in the morning. Hopefully it doesn't get too hot or cold.

i woke up and saw that the min temp was 70 and max was 76 or so. I closed the door when i was gone and the temp got up to 80 with the door closed. Also when i came back and opened the door it reeked of reefer. It smelled damn good too. I wasn't expecting that. That really scares me since my last grow didn't stink too much at all. I wonder if i am going to have to get something to take care of it.

I can't remember if I mentioned this or not but I can tell that the smell is going to be a problem. In the afternoon the closet door is closed for about 3 hours while the light is on and it gets up to 80 degrees but when i open the door it smells like some really good bud. So I might have to buy something to counteract this smell. I've been putting off getting a carbon scrubber because I don't want to deal with ducting all that shit. Plus exhaust from the room isn't really feasible since I have to keep the door closed and I can NOT cut holes in the wall or the door. Anyway, I think that over the next 30-45 minutes I will draw a plan for my scrog. I will be using PVC and I am not entirely sure what I will use for the screen itself. Probably something that would allow a lot of light to penetrate it. Chicken wire would probably be a good screen. I've seen people use all sorts of stuff and I think this is probably what I will use. I am thinking about adding some additional features to the screen just to make things easier for me. We'll see. If i have time I will go to the store and get all the shit i need as well. I have to bring it all in at night time through the complex back door so no one sees me. Just like i did with the lights and the tray. I fucking hate having to be covert about this shit. I wish I could do all this how I really want to. Maybe I should start a "Help FB obtain enough money for a downpayment on a new house so he can fill it with cannabis plants for us all to enjoy" fund. Plant update will be tomorrow evening. These plants are looking phenomenal too. Every plant that I attempted to germinated has progressed to the vegging cycle. So far this shit is going almost perfect. Ph is checked daily and topped off with distilled h20 when needed. Res will be changed every 10 days or so i think. Last time I think i did it weekly (on update thursdays) during the flowering phase. Not sure if i will do that again. It was quite a bit of work to do that shit. It will be even more time consuming this time since I have the tray and rez in a different - harder to access place. I am also still considering purchasing another ballast and light system either 400 or 600w.

I try to not put too much text into the log but sometimes I get carried away and ramble on. Like above. Went to home depot. 8 or 8:30 pm is a great time to go there. Always get good, easy to find service then. I finally got a green light bulb for night work. They were out of the t joints in all sizes but 1/2 in. So i got that. I will put it together tomorrow. They didn't have 2" poultry mesh so I will go elsewhere tomorrow and get more. I also plan on going to the hydro store and getting mylar and possibly a constant ph monitor. I'd like to have one that measures the tds and water temp in addition to ph. oh i also got some shielded copper wire for the lst. anyway enough text.

Thanks for those kind words! I guess you might be happy to know that I purchased another 400w galaxy ballast and MH and HPS bulbs. I just need to get a reflector and this 400w will turn into an 800w! I also got the frame for the screen set up. It's huge. I am hoping to get a couple lbs out of this one now. I need to crunch the numbers on the power consumptions and all that electrical shit. ballast wont be here for a while so i got time. decided to sell my macro lens as well. I decided to get some litmus paper as well. and a new air stone. it seems to be leaking. I need to fix it up, which shouldn't be a problem. I have set up a small bit of mylar as well. more to come shortly.....

It's also 50" tall. You will see the pictures. I will probably cut off a few inches of the pipe. we'll see. Also, just so everyone is aware. I will only update the original post's subject with the date when i post a full update with pictures (saturdays). ppm is at 800 now. I changed the rez and ran a flush through the plants for about 30 minutes. As you can see i also put up mylar. I will finish putting it up tomorrow. For now you can see what i spent the last few hours on. also, i can't fucking remember if i said this earlier. I got another ballast and mh and hps bulbs today which should be here in a week or two. Next i will get a reflector. As you can see in the pictures the plants are growing just as I would expect for a GDP. In case you guys missed it I came across these seeds on craigslist. Some guy in Cali had a posting about selling GDP seeds so i called him up and he sent me these 7 seeds. He showed me a link to his youtube vid of the herb and it looked fucking spectacular. Anyway, here's the pictars!!

thanks! i actually live in the desert. we'll the high desert. Our elevation is 5200 ft approx. But it gets up to 100 here in the summer. But I blocked off the vents to the living room area and close the door separating the two rooms so that all the cold air is pumped into the grow room. It stays pretty cool in there. From 69-80.

One of the plants is working on it's 5th node. I think it's almost ready for a choppin. I am going to try to fim this plant. I think i will wait till tomorrow though. I am really curious to see how that goes. I will take pictures before and after I do it. I was planning on doing it to every plant. That or topping them. Any comments on that?

Anyone notice the leaves on the leaf that is in the foreground? The edges are curled upward. I was thinking that was due to heat stress a week or two ago. it hasn't gone away as i thought it would. It hasn't developed on any other plants though.

Special Update Day 24
I tried to fim a plant tonight. It is the plant that is farthest along. It was working on it's 6th and 7th node when i circumsized it.
I took a real close look at this picture as I prepared my cut line. I used a pair of small unused scissors. I sanitized them and used gloves. A lot of teks recommend bending a razor to make the cut but i figured i'd just wing it.
^The one I topped (fim) was the the one in the far back left.
^You can see the shadow of my finger on the leaf from the reflection of the mylar.

Well after review I have concluded that I cut fan leaves I didn't need to. Next time I will just hit the growth tip. I am not sure if I should do this to every plant or not. Since it's a scrog i don't think any of this HST is really necessary, when I will be doing LST later on. So i am just experimenting. I think i cut it in a pretty good spot. I am hoping for 4 new growth tips.

I fim'd another plant last night. I did it much more cleanly than the other one. I managed to get the very tip of growth only. Hopefully that makes this thing spider-leg upwards. we'll see in a week or so.

No, that's only two plants. I am not sure if i will do them all. If so i would need to do them asap as i want to flower these soon. What did you have in mind? I was planning on doing both hst and lst as i mentioned earlier it might be a bit overkill, but not if half these plants are male. Here's a pic of a fim'd plant that someone else did. I started listening to the tool concert from 7-24-09 in San Antonio when I started messing with the plants. it's now starting the last song of the concert. That's about 100 minutes. I added some more nutes to the rez and brought it up to 1,100 ppm. It was at 700-800 range. Then adjusted the ph to 5.8-6.0. I love listening to music on a pair of great headphones. It makes basic activities around the garden (indoor that is) much more enjoyable. Not that it's not fun just working with the plant. Anyway taking the pictures and weeding out the good ones and uploading took some time. I got a rhythm with my weed smoking / uploading pattern though. I just smoke non stop and then feel like ranting.

I thought it would be interesting to see the progress from my last grow at this point. These pictures are from my last grow at Day 27 (11/30/08). The difference is fucking amazing. I think it has to do with the seeds used. and the fact that I didn't start giving the plants nutes until like 3 weeks into it.
      
The plants now, are about at the point to where the last grow was at on day 46!

I've noticed with all of my grows, from my first to now, that each time I start new ones, I end up using all of my new knowledge, first hand and informational. The result is plants I grow now at 2 weeks, look like plants in previous grows at 4 or even 5 weeks. That just shows that you are learning more and not doing any mistakes you have previously made... I don't know if that made sense because I wake' n baked big time today... But anyways good job dude and keep it up. I want to see results!
Edit: It does look like you didn't chop low enough on some of those. See how the fan leaves are growing in, cut in half? That means you only cut the top of the growth tip, not the bottom 10%, which is the goal. I got first try this year and you will defiately know when you got it just right.

Yeah, one of them is definatly not done properly. There might be another one i fucked up on too. But one of them def. was hit on the spot. On another note I saw a fucking nat flying around in the grow room. That made me really mad. Now im on a fucking mission to erradicate all of it. Unlike coaster I keep this place as spotless. i shook the rockbed and nothing happened. I don't think there's a problem. I just saw one and smashed the shit out of it. I've had a sticky trap placed on the light cord from the ceiling this whole time and nothing is on it. Shouldn't be a problem. Let's hope. fuckin pests!

Over the last few days I have noticed some water on select leaves. I thought maybe i was drooling on them and just didn't realize it. Well i think i figured it out. The places where there is water on the leaves are the top surface of a leaf that has another one right on top of it. I think it's just a bit of transpiration. I went through the garden and patted the leaves dry. I also moved all the plants around a bit to reorient them. the plants themselves can't move but i mean i just fluffed it and put new leaves on top and so forth. This wasn't a problem last grow, but for vegging i used florescents.
Special Picture update today, since it is hump day!
I also changed the rez tonight. I just flushed it and i am waiting for it to drain before i move things around again and add the nutes for the next feeding. I also just rolled up a nice j of this bud below. Look familiar? 5 months curing now. best bud in the world as far as im concerned.

As I may have mentioned earlier I spent all my money on signed concert posters. $1600 down the tubes. At least those things should appreciate once I get them under glass. Anyway, due to that I've had to eat like a bumb the last week. I get paid next week and that money's already gone in the form of rent and car loan pmt. Anyway, i got a few things I need to buy for the grow. The reflector is the main thing. I put up a post in the Lot. If any one reading this knows where a cheap sun system reflector can be had, let me know. I want the same one that I already have. I hope I can get this thing before I flower so I can turn this 400w into an 800w grow. Not sure if i mentioned it but I got my 400W galaxy ballast today. It only cost me $125. It looks even better than the one i bought 9 months ago. Additionally, harryba11sach has inspired me to use Humboldt Gravity during the end of my grow. That shit is expensive too. $50 for a quart!

I was thinking I would at least wait until I knew if there were any males. there should be at least 7 female's though. I am so curious to see how these seeds will turn out to be. Seeing as how i got them from someone i dont know in ca that i got connected with through craigslist.

Nice dude how did you go about that? Nevermind don't answer that...But that's pretty cool thats a good deal you got going on. Now you should start forwarding them to us for a profit cuz I know I'd pay. One of the reasons I haven't started a grow recently is seeds I'm scared to order them. I would do bagseed but that takes away from the point of growing for me.

Eh I know it will but if I'm going to grow I'm going to pick a strain I like thats the point IMO. It's coming down to the wire by the end of September if I don't find a site I trust I've been collecting bagseed so I'm ready.

Integra - the ppm's are now at 1200 i think. It fluctuates a bit each day but I really only adjust the PPM's when I change out the rez. I think it will probably go up to 1300 or 1400 by the end of this thing. Actally when I change the rez next time I will put it at that. That will probably be my last rez change before flowering. The concentration of nutes has gradually increased throughout the grow. I have posted the ppm's at each rez change, i believe.
I went hiking yesterday and I was in WAY over my head. It was a 7 mile hike to the top and the same going back. I will post some pictures that I took later on tonight. I spent about 10 hours yesterday climbing this fucking mountain. I didn't make it to the summit though. The mountain was 12,622 feet in elevation. I'm still fucking exhausted.

Oh yeah, i do that too. Not daily but probably every other day. I lose between 1-2.5 gallons from the rez every other day or so. It's kinda crazy.

Nice grow you have there. I am going to be starting a scrog grow here soon and was wondering if you usually put the screen on before or after flowering starts so that it fills out. A friend of mine has an EBb and flow hydro setup with 8 clones going we wanted to scrog, but I think they might be getting to big for that now.

Check out this thread for more info on that. On my drive home from work today I decided that I would reduce the light down to 12 hours on Friday. I will still use the MH though. Once the sex shows I will add the screen. I have just read horror stories of people who have done lst to a screen only to have to undue it all after males were id'd. I'd like to avoid having to back track. I am just hoping I don't break any of the shoots while im doing the lst.

There's a reflector identical to the one I have on the way. I can't wait! I'm also very nervous about doing this screen. I'm going to spend part of this weekend reading the scrog bible.

Tonight I raised up the lights about 8 inches or so. They've been pretty much stationary up to this point. The tallest plant is 26" and the shortest one is about 11" shorter, so 15" and happens to be the only plant that was successfully topped. The fim shit didn't work. I missed!

I'm not about to eat it. I cut it all up last night and put in a place to dry out. When the leaves are completely brittle i will break it all up and flush it. Were those serious suggestions, to eat it? I'm sure some people wouldn't have any apprehension about it.

I'm serious...Cook with it. Just because it doesn't get you high doesn't mean it isn't good for you. Several good proteins etc in there. Use it while its fresh though. I wouldn't eat the stems since it tastes like shit but if you wanted to take the time to extract the oil from it I'd imagine it would be good for you as well.

I don't even like lettuce. I'm not big on veggies. I'd rather have a pint of ice cream or some sour patch kids. I got my new reflector today. I'm going to check which outlets are on this same fuse i've been using. I don't think it's going to be an issue running 800w though. This next update on Saturday is going to be epic. The whole grow should look a lot different in the coming days. Let's just hope I don't break any stems or shoots as I position everything.

yeah, make hash oil, or cannabutter, or hemp fiber accessories....or my specialty is to take all the nice looking big fan leaves and make a salad out of them! or even mix them with some other kinds of lettuce........its tastey and good for you..........never waste any of the cannabis plant...its all usefull!

^as much as it pains me I'm not doing any of those suggestions. They are all wonderful suggestions. Dont get me wrong, I just don't want to fuck with it for what I can logically presume would be an infinitesimally small amount of usable drug. I don't think the ends would justify the means.

This morning was interesting. I checked the plants early - at about 730 or so. And three of the shoots from the largest plant have collapsed on themselves! It's ok though. I used duct tape and fixed that shit right up. I am perplexed as to why they would have just collapsed like that. It happened after I changed the light from an MH to HPS and added another 400w hps to it. so i would think it's related to that. Anyone have any clues on that?

I'll do some research on all of this. I wouldn't think there would be anything within the structural body of the male plant from which to extract anything from. That's just an assumption though. Has anyone had any real success in deriving any usable amount of drug from a single male plant that stands about 24" tall? Is that what you guys who are recommending this would have done? I wouldn't even think it would be worth the effort of even trying an extraction.

its all the same stuff, theres just different concentrations of it in the buds vs. plant material and male vs. feemales. but when extracted can be concentrated to whatever potency you would like

A few hours earlier i was trying to train the largest plant and i managed to break the stem over. It made a nasty cracking sound. after that it would stand up straight. I duct taped it too. Man this shit is really scaring me. Anyone want to come over and help me get this screen placed on? It's really a two man job. Oh well. I will see how this goes in a few hours. lights on at 8.

well over the last 36 hours ive managed to break about 3 main stocks and 3 smaller branches. All were duct taped up. It was a sorry sight my friends. Me trying to hoist this big screen up into position while trying to gently carress the plants into the position i desired. I learned that im going to have to train these fragile bitches first. Seems like a bonehead thing on my part. i'm shocked at how fragile they are compared to my last grow. we'll see how the next week goes with the training before i decide whether to retry this screen. Doesn't look good though. But don't fret, plenty of buds to be picked off 7 plants.

Broken branches are fine as long as it's not clean through. I dont know how hard it would be with your setup, but it is much easier if you place the screen above the plants and let them grow into it. I put my clones under when they're about 4-6inches tall. also, if you have to put it on later than that, i had good luck with setting the screen on top of the plants so that they are holding it up, and then just working 1 branch through at a time. just dont drop it on it, set it down soft. the only branches i broke were from setting it down to hard. and one of the weed urban legends is that if you brake the stem and it repairs itself, that branch will grow bigger buds. I guess you can put it to the test first hand. keep up the good work.

Thanks Mushr00m Man! I forgot I had added the HPS bulbs last night so I didn't get in there before they turned on to take the pics. Next time. I didn't even fuck with the white balancing or anything. All the plants are very healthy and bushy indeed. The one that I pulled was in a good spot since the one next to it is so much taller than all the others. Luckily, they have remained just as vibrant as prior to breaking all those stems. I might try to take some clones at the End of this grow from some of the undergrowth. We'll see how things go up till then. If it looks like I can continue with another grow right after this then I will do that. We'll see how this all goes.

Thanks! I have no idea how long that root was. Same thing happened last grow about this time as well. I can't remember if i posted a pic of that or not. I took some pictures tonight before the lights came on. The only light in there is the green one so i just relied on the camera's built in flash. It worked pretty well cause it was pitch black in there.

It is to my severe disappointment that I announce that I will not be using the screen of green on this grow. It's far to late to apply this. No one is more disappointed than I am. you should make a log of it. clones would be nice if i didn't live in a 700 sqft apt with a ton of nosey neighbors living feet from my plants. I'm just going to be aggressive with inspecting and removing the males. It does appear that the female sites far outnumber the males. And it seems to be effecting only this plant, but I haven't really confirmed that as the plants in the back are nearly impossible to get to now.

no worries. You can still train them with string(I use parachute string) to get an even canopy similar to a scrog and if you want that far, it would be much easierto work them into the screen. Like this:

Yeah man, don't get so discouraged. You'd be suprised how well you can do by tying the main stem down and adjusting the branches. It will grow like a canopy.

Yeah, there's no doubt I will have to do some LST, simply because of the space I have for my lights. I don't much more room upward to raise them. So it's down to just tying shit down. This will end up the same grow as last time, just with different strains and 7 plants rather than 5. We'll see how it goes.

I wish I would have grown more plants outdoors this year, considering how the lone one came out (best i've produced) I just wish I had a LOT more of it... Oh well. Maybe it'll be good to clear my head for a bit, get a job! I'm desperate...

Thanks for the kind words. Good luck on the job hunt. imo the job search is one of the stupidest things we have to do. I don't really have a problem selling myself but it's just the whole ordeal. Background and credit checks, piss tests, psychological testing, interviews, the list goes on. Anyway, good luck with the search! Hopefully you are in an area with lots of businesses around.

The Stanly fan works great. I got 2 of them( in and out)and still only spent 2/3 of one 4in inline fan .

i dont have a scrubber. I have a deionizer that im not sure does much and a small desk fan then i just added this stanley blower fan. I also have a long stand up fan that blows air into the room when the lights are on. that closet leads to my bedroom. there's nothing but junk that should be in my closet there now. my bed is in the living room. the door to the right of the closet in the first pic of tonights update. I leave the door between teh two closed 24/7. i also taped up the vents in the living room and the only open one is in the bedroom. It stays around 62-65 F in there. Where the plants are it gets down to about 66 and up to 76 or so. Humidity has been around 60 at night, with the door closed.

yes, indeed. I can't wait for these ladies hit menopause. Picked up some Humbodlt Gravity today. I got a quart. idk if that's way too much or not. I suspect it is. 1-2 ml per gallon. i run 25-30 gallons in my rez. so yeah, im pretty sure this is going to be waaaayyyy too much. I hear that shit is pretty powerful stuff for the plants so I will really go easy on it. will only use it in the last 3 weeks of the grow.
doing a rez change tonight. adding dnf bloom fortifier. this time im only using GH FN bloom. I will get the ppm to 1300. im really shocked at how quickly these buds are developing compared to the last grow I had. I have not found any male parts for some time now. I found 4-5 of them total. can't wait to see these buds fatten up. at some point I will switch over and add an mh bulb and rotate every day. For the last week perhaps.

they have grown too much so tonight I am adding something to raise the lights up higher. This should be good for the grow. In the second and third picture you can see the two burnt leaves. It's only on two leaves so that's nothing im going to worry about.
     
I will take more pictures when I get the shit all situated the way i want it. I hope it all works out. We'll see....

also i just realized that last night when I did my rez change i failed to reconnect the plug into the timer so they haven't been feed in 24 hrs. which sucks. I noticed that some of the pistils have prematurely turned brown. I don't know if this was because of heat issues or because of not being fed. I would guess the former. Any ideas?
i am feeding them now.

Thanks! New pic. I made a pvc set up and put the ironing board on top of that. took a lot of work in that tight space. My main concern is the weight being too much for the frame to hold. I did a good job taping it all up. I should have used some adhesive or something to hold the pieces together.

Ba-da bah-bah-ba....Im Lovin' It!! They look so healthy. No sure what your restrictions are but for about the same price, you could get a couple of light yo-yo's and some anchors and had the light easily adjustable. I cant wait to see this grow progress. They look so good.

Thanks guys! The light yo-yo's are a great idea and would be my first choice. You'd be safe to assume that's not an option given the goofy pvc set up. I am really afraid the weight is going to be too much for the Pvc frame. I reinforced each connection with duct tape, gorrilla tape and some clear packing tape since i ran out of the first two. It's held together thus far but I still fear a catastrophe, which could happen if the connections failed and the lights/ironing board fell right on my plants. So i unscrewed the neck/handle on two of my brooms and will place that across the shelves to at the least prevent that catastrophe. Anyway, the limiting factor on the lights are the material of the ceiling. It's not like sheetrock or anything like that. idk what it is. i can't drive nails or screws into the walls. My neighbor told me they are masonite walls and my dad seemed to disagree. At any rate they suck. Sometimes things just have to be african engineered.

THanks! I'm sure you get as much satisfaction as I do just looking at the buds and watching them develop. I have been amazed at the growth over the last week and a half. Seems like just yesterday they were pre-pubescent girlies. They're becoming women. Here's a couple more pics so you can really see what I am talking about with regard to the fear I illustrated in my last post.

yeah, that's what im worried about. i should have done some stress tests first. If it fucks up it's my own fault. I've accepted that. oh also, i dont think i mentioned that i managed to break like half a dozen branches in the process of getting that shit set up. I tell ya it was a 2 man job. Luckily all those broken branches were down low on the plant for the most part.

I dont see why you wouldnt be able to use yo-yo's. Just find studs to screw into or to screw an anchor plate to to screw the hooks to.

My friend is under watering his a good bit...His plant is getting root bound and he won't listen and water it more...He uses the damn mist bottle to moisten the dirt it needs more...But the buds are looking nice I'm posting some pictures up soon.

"Wow!" Is exactly what I said when I saw it. I've only seen two other pictures of the leaf bud. Never researched it though. I wonder how rare it is and what causes this condition. I just spent about 30-40 minutes looking over other GDP logs to see how they looked compared to mine and it looks about equal. The buds are getting fatter by the day. I can't wait to see these bitches purple up in the end.
