Gday all,

Here are swims new babies. He has a couple more only just sprouting as well. Atm they are getting natural sunlight all day every day. Swim is a bit of a noob, so any thoughts on how the plants/their setup looks, let him know.

it looks like they're not getting enough light.  see how the stems are really long and thin?  they're elongated because they're looking for more light.  are you sure they're getting direct sunlight for several hours at a time?

Ah, I thought there might be something wrong there. Thanks for that mate. I'll put em outside more often. Problem is its winter here, so im worried leaving them outside overnight would be too cold. How cold is too cold for mj?

well if its "Winter" there then its probably too cold to be outside...... but it would depend where you live....try to keep the temps between 55 - 85 ferenheit, or slow or stunted growth will occur

So if temperature conditions aren't always ideal, can it kill plants, or does it usually just inhibit growth? Cos since spring is coming in a few months anyway, I'm not overly concerned about slow-growing plants.

if its near freezing like around -32 outside it can rupture the plant cells and if its too hot like well over a 100+ or so it can cause severe heat stress and the plant can dehydrate, wither and dry up.......humidity complications dont help.....

Swim will transplant two of his now 6 plants (just noticed two late sprouters) outside and see how they fare. He's found a good place that receives plenty of sun but is also pretty sheltered from rain. He's in northern new zealand, so temp wont go below freezing. He'll post updates here as to how they do, thanks for the help mate.

Dude, I thought it was cold in the north east, but shit! Are you in the super-super north or what?!

You might try some reflectors,(not mirrors)and monitor the temp. fluctuations. You want that to be steady. Being so cold, I imagine the heaters make the air very dry when the kids are inside, so keep the water up, too. Keep the water at a mid-temp. as well. Not too hot, and for real, not too cold.
I live in the very northern hemisphere as well. Definitely not as drastic, but still the effects are felt here, as well. Multiple plants were placed outside 32 days ago, and four were kept inside, under 3 CFL's, in a very controlled environment.
The indoors (transplanted to outdoors @ 28 days)did very well, at 6 nodes when they were taken outside. Germinated at the same time, 11 plants were placed outdoors @ 6+ sprout inches w/ 2 nodes. Only 2 survived out of 11 total, due to initial temp. shock, natural over-saturation(rains), and slugs/bugs.
The harsh temperature(Low 50f-High 73f)kept the healthy guerillas at only 3 and 4 nodes, as of today. The height difference between these, and the controlled plants, were exponential! My innies(now outside) are ate 28" plus and are doing GREAT. The 2 outies, are at only 11" but are getting much better/faster.
The night temp. now, is keeping fairly steady, so the growth is looking steady, and green. Stretching was definitely expected of the outies, as we had a lot of cloud cover, and low temps.

I recommend ABSOLUTELY, to keep them indoors, until the temp is within a healthy/ reasonable range if you want bigger plants, with little stress/shock, at harvest time.

Good luck!:getstoned:

Very true. I haven't lived below the 30th degree latitude north.
