A HPS makes plants grow much faster than a compact fluorescent system. Before anybody buys 17 cfl's and units, just go to a discount hydro shop and price a HID light. Growth and color increase in just a few days. But if you have all these cfl's they make great veggers and with the slow growth under them you can keep shit fairly inline while in line for flowering.

I think he is basically saying for the same amount of money as fluoros, you can get a good HID. But with fluoros its not as hot. Thats my guess anyway.

I'm looking into the son agro hps400... supposedly has more blue light good for vegetative growth?

The blue spectrum is needed for veg growth. So yes.
