you don't NEED to maintain nutrient levels especially if you're using the lucas formula.
as for pH assuming you don't want to change nutrients you should go for the largest reservoir possible this would also help maintain your precious nutrient levels. Another thing you can look into is switching to Dutch Master if you're you want to keep using the lucas formula as they're the most pH stable nutrient on the market as far as I'm aware of.
