HeLMeT's Grow log (Moving to real Journal)
    #225500 - 05/12/09 02:40 AM (14 years, 11 months ago)

hi all, got a little closet framed up recently, quadrupled my avalible space finally utilizng my 400w hps bulb.

started taking pictures way too late this time. tho my next set are clones and they just got done rooting. they're going in as soon as whats there is done.

anyways, onto pictures.

oh, before pictures, since tehy're still uploading to photofucket.
Question, can anyone tell by the pictures(just in estimation) how much longer i'm going to want to flower these bad boys, they're both random bagseed. one's in a wick-bucket the others just in plain dirt with no wick.

here's the old chamber, sideways in the closet.

took it out and framed it in

recycled lids i don't use to hold the metal cuplings for the air intake hoses.

here's the exhaust hose. close to the hood and light.

lol, it almost looks like a ghetto bigscreen tv.... but only because i'm high i'd bet.

well that's it for the build. now onto the budpron!
(any help as to suggestions on when to harvest besides "get a microscope" would be appreciated.)

here's a couple pictures of both of them together

we'll start with the one in a plain dirt bucket

heres my other one, in a wick-bucket also, bagseed.

well... that's it for this time.

might as well add a few points of info to help since this is supposed to be a log.

both plants were fim'ed

for seedling and veg stage i used shultz plant food concentrate, i also misted with regular water several times a day up untill flowering.

once i started flowering once a week i dilute a 1/3rd as strong mix as normal of Miracle Grow bloom booster(it was laying around) as far as buckets go, next time i'm going to do everything in a wick-bucket, as it seems to be producing far better results, at least as far as eye candy. never know tho, my plain dirt bucket could end up looking nice and just taking 3x as long to flower.

other than that, during seedling stage they were in peatpots/pellets, when they started to veg, i transplanted them into 3qt buckets with 1 red cup worth of pearlite in the bottom, and then put the rest of it with soiless whitney farms potting mix. the one in teh wick bucket i never took out of the 3qt bucket, i just put dirt around it like a lazy ass... and suprisingly getting decent results.

managed to get a clone off the dirt bucket one before flowering. and i got a clone off a diff female indica i had to kill cuz it wasn't proforming like it should. they're going to be my next set. pictures of them to come soon.

Killed 3 females in my 24hour light chamber and made a couple clones, now to play the waiting game on which ones aren't going to root.

got some new pictures taken today, forgot to get one of the 2 new clones tho.

here's the clone, i think its mostly indica. i had to kill its mother due to space, took this clone after a week of flowering, it survived nicely besides already have crystals on it. should make this clone rather potent i hope

this one, this one only has 4 branches. and its fim'ed. its more of an experiment, don't think its going to produce anything.

here's todays pictures of what i'll nickname Mungaal.

and here's the other one, we'll call it buckethead

think it'll be time to harvest mungaal soon.

i'm worried about buckethead(non-wicked one). i've never seen anything like him. i'm not sure if she's just gonna take 3 extra weeks on flowering, or if the buds are just never going to really dence up like mungaal's have.

any idea if a wick system will alter results that drastically? comepared to the same bucket, without wicks or holes.

and on that note does anyone have an opinion on if mungaal looks ready, just from a pistol standpoint, since i dont' have the $10 to get one of those 30x microscopes to check trichomes

Put your eye right up to the trichs on the leaves close to the bud.  are they clear, white, or amber?  If they're clear let em develop more.  Looks like a great job man.  Any way you could get some pics under a normal cfl light instead of the HPS or maybe mess with the white balance on the camera.  Thanks for sharing this with us!!!

thanks for the advice furr, i've been afraid to shut off the light out of scheduel to take pictures with the flash or with cfl's on. i don't want to stress or stun them. but i will try that white balance trick if my camera has it

oh yeah, its kinda hard for me to see extremely close up. as a kid i was farsighted and glasses kinda fixed it to where i don't need glasses. but i still can't see things really really close up without a magnifying glass, and then, i can't seem to find a powerful enouhg one around the house. heh. (edited cuz i forgot to mention this paragraph)

harvest pictures first!(crappy i know) it overlaps itself too, not as much as appears.

here's the new ones for this round.
one of them is a clone of Mungaal. the other i'll nickname Cobain.

buckethead is still going. bought a 60-100x pocket lite up microscope today. looked at mungaal and realized i harvested her early, by about a week. at most tho. buckethead is starting to get a few cloudy but its mostly clear still. waiting till i see a couple amber ones before i pull it.

got antsy and tried some of the not completely dry mungaal. it makes me never want to get ahold of commercial grade stuff again. its awesome.

*edit*
i should rephrase that... but i can't. well, besides change commercial grade, to badly grown. lol.

Finally got my new Camera today an 8mp olympus with supermacro mode heh.. now if only the instructions were in english...... its in ape. buncha freakin pictures.

bucketheads doing okay. lots of yellowing of the leaves cuz i don't want to put more nutes in there because i have no way to flush it properly before harvest.

both my clones look ok. cobain is stretching out while mungaal's clone is just sitting there kinda short and stalky not growing much.

from the looks of it my experiment plant, is going to be lots of fun to watch. but yield is expected at under 7g dried.

so yeah, pictures, soon as i figure this damn camera out.

olympus fe-310 5x optical zoom 8mp camera woot!

okay figured it out a little bit. enough to at least get log worthy pictures up.

here's today's picture of cloned Cobain

here is today's picture of Cloned Mungaal

here's my Experiment.

and here's todays budpron of Buckethead

and this is off topic for a log. but here's my bestest little buddy/guard dog.

he's always lazy for the camera. weird since he's a streak of white most the time.

anyways. that's it till i get some really good macro shots of buckethead or a few days goes by lol.

thinned out my clones from the ones that weren't rooting, the ones that were finally started popping out of the peat pods, 12 out of 50 isn't too bad since they weren't taken care of the best, had no rooting solution or anything. only the strongest survive!!! lol. anyways. i also have two more random bagseed guys going

harvested buckethead today because some of the leaves on the inside of the bud were turning yellow and brown and one began to mold so i cut out the mold and harvested, even tho i know it might not have meant it was done. a good 90% of the trichomes were cloudy, i wanted amber but the mold scared me. i'm gonna keep an eye on the stuff as it dries tho i think everything should be fine. it looks like it has seeds, but they're just resin packed pods, its awesome. i'm hoping for at least an oz out of this harvest dry weight, my first one was about 26g cracker dry.

Hey helmet. Excellent pictures from what I saw.  They are way too big though.  can you shrink em down without fucking up the clarity?  You can also upload them to the growery server so it doesn't take us an hour to load your log.  Just a suggestion.  If you'd do that i'd nominate one of those macro shots for potm.  but looks like you did a damn good job with your grow!

Please take this man's advice... I'm enjoying your grow log, but it takes way too long to load and its hard to enjoy the pictures for all they're worth because you can't individually scroll each picture, you have to scroll the whole post. With so many pictures the scroll bar often isn't even visible when the picture you want to scroll is.

i've just been hesitant to load them to growerys servers because at 2mb a picture i just figured it would have been easier to deal with this way.

if you right click on each picture, click "view picture" it loads it up in your browser by itself and resizes it. wish there was a way in the image code to resize it, would be easier lol.

/sigh, i'll get on that and upload my macro shots of my experiment that i took today.

i am not doing the first page :frown: i know they're kinda big. but tehy're also ALL on photobucket and i don't have the originals, it was before i got my camera. i fixed all of page two. i was hestant to upload stuff cuz it says like 28,000k a day. that plays tricks with your head. 28,000,000 is 280mb a day upload. i thought you were limited to uploading super small pictures or becoming a supporter which sounds awesome, if i weren't poor. lol. well, phsyically poor. the bud i aquire will truely make sure i'm never spritually poor. unless i get ripped off then its off with their heads! lol

i was sifting thru my bag of goody good i get from a friend, the stuff smells insanely good, pretty crystally, virtually not harsh, all in all, good smoke. lone behold by itself in the bottom of one of the buds. was a seed! all dark and perfect looking. now i've got to got to the growshop and get some new biodegradeable peat pots and stuff so i can start it! omg i can't wait to make a mother out of it and then clone it mmmmmm if i had to describe the good stuff's taste, its purple star meets lemon sour disel.... well that's if i've truely had those strains... who knows. i may not have.

Buckethead's all dry now. 80+ temps will do that i guess lol. got roughly 40g dried. not bad imo for the plant being under 2 1/2ft tall

did some research about my dog the other day and i guess back in 2003 the long legged "american" jack russel terrier was adopted into its own breed, the Parsons russel terrier.

got some seeds from a friends grow of bought seeds that made a hermi, so these should technically be feminized, but i planted 8 anyways lol.

oh yeah, all of my clones, were done without any kind of rooting hormone/powder/HELP lol. so hopefully that just prooves they've got what it takes!  well, the ones that are taking off. the ones that are still yellow i think its cuz the plant the clones were taken from was in regular houselight conditions for a while before it was put back into veg mode, and then the clones were taken probably right before the plant got into veg... so yeah. think i'm gonna trim off the lower yellow stuff and see if it perks up. i'm not sure tho. but in the end that leaves 7-8 clones from close to 50 when i took the trimmings lol. i'm sure root solution or willow tree wahtever would have tremendously upped my odds of keeping them... but meh. like i said only the strong survive!!
lol

That's awesome that your clones took root without any hormones.  Everywhere I read people preach that shit like the gospel.  Little ones are looking good!  I'd be happy with that much off a 2.5 ft plant.  Excellent work!

I got some good shrooms growing. I have a pic up in my journal, but i dont keep track of that shit as much, because its all business. I myself, don't like shrooms, more of an acid kinda guy, and i would never try to make that shit. Currently growing hawians and have some penis envy and B+ germinated waiting for the hawians to get used up.

here's all the clones

and the other 3 that were already flowering.

lol that would be against my motto. only the strong survive. its only got 4 branches and its topped. some of the branches are Fim'd too.  lol. but yeah one of the branches is getting a little heavy for itself, i may just cut it off and dry it early. show the rest of the buds what happens when you don't hold up your buds. lol.

i've decided that today is harvest day for my experiment. and since i'm cutting my experiment i'm gonna cut the 2 clones i was flowering as well, for they were started at the same time, and i want to go back to 18 hour on 6 off for all the clones to help them veg better, so far they've been under 24h 400w(eqiv) CFL (2x42w). i'm sure the hps will help them in other ways.

No no no... Don't necessarily listen to anyone to tells you when to harvest... It's all about what type of high you like.  If you like to be stuck to the fucking floor and not accomplish anything while you are high then go for it and harvest when the trich's turn amber... but in my experience I have found that I never harvest when they are amber but instead cloudy...  I recently quit a 4 year heroin addiction and when I smoke weed that puts me out like that it just reminds me of Heroin... I'd rather smoke something that I can still cruise around and do my errands cuz it's only beneficial to smoke a sleepy type weed before bed...

If you are like me than you probably smoke weed from the time you get up to the time you go to bed and the only way you can keep that up is with an earlier harverst.  I'd say go ahead and harvest if most of the trichs are cloudy... thats just me though and most people are in the game to get the most yield possible...

I'd rather get a smaller yield than get more of the bud that I'd rather sell than smoke myself. If that made any sense to you?!?!?

yeah, makes perfect sence, its just my first two crops were picked Right as 50% were cloudy. my buddy reminded me that i haven't let one go into couchlock, just to try it. i'm not using super nutes or anything so letitng it go amber isn't going to give me much more of a yield.

but yeah i also agree, i don't like weed that makes me fall back asleep. sadly that's what people concider chronic around here. most people are so stupid. and most aren't people like us that like smoking from dawn to dusk... and then some. most people i know only smoke a few hours before bed so they all prefer that make you fall asleep couchlock to bring them down off the energy drink high they have from drinking "insert generic gay ass fucking energy drink here(they hsould just smoke a good sativa)"... its hard to find good sativa's up here that the tricomes aren't amber.

i've always wondered what doing a gradient time cycle from the time you start the plants, mimicing the days getting shorter, but not so drastically, as in the instant switch from either 18-6 or 24 to 12-12.... instead start at 24h, then go to 22-2, then 20-4, then 18-6, and so on, either one day at a time... or stretch each time cycle into a couple days or even go into doing math of the days of the year and make some really complicated stuff based on real sunrise and sunset times thruought a good year.

i mean i've got my hps on a timer... i figure why not at least think about stuff liek that

Wow man those two LST'd plants look exactly like the two I have... I just started training mine about 4 days ago and have already seen drastic results... I am falling in love with this tek already, especially since I'm growing them inside til later in flowering it works really well to use all the space you have... Good work  BTW are those 2 from clones off your original grow?  I am thinking about trying my hand at cloning seeing as I don't have access to any more seeds and only have 4 plants right now and I think 1 of them is a male for sure, 1 is a female and the other is starting to show but unsure and the last is only a week old.  I want to keep my grow going after these 2 finish but the only way I can do that is to clone them...

I bought Schultz Rooting Hormone Powder and pretty know how to do it but is it really that simple??? Just cut at a 45 angle, soak in water, dip, then into soil with a humidity dome??? I don't have access to rockwool or peat pellets so I'd assume that putting them into a small pot would work too... Please let me know as I would like you to teach me how to clone, it's the only thing left for me to master...

the two in the black buckets, are from seed. and sadly there's nothing left of my first two plants. one of the two tiny plants i just harvested was a clone i took off buckethead before i flowered it. all the plants in the red cups, are clones however, from one of 3 mothers i was growing to get clones from.

it sucks yours is gonna end if you cant find a way to propogate it. i've got someone working on getting ahold of a good clone i can mother out, and turn into more clones.

from my understanding, you don't need water with the powder. i have gardentech rootone, its a powder as well, tho i didn't get it till recently.

as far as cloning, its hard to define what you can use as a clone, cut at a 45 degree angle, and lightly scrape off all the outter stalk, can split the end into quarters if you want, not pushing them apart but making the cuts up the stalk.

doing all of that ontop of having the rooting hormone should help tremendously with keeping clones alive. i started with close to 60... i have about 10 now. lol. didn't want to grow 60 anyways but i knew i was going to lose alot cuz i wasn't using rooting hormone.

oh yeah and i have no idea what LST means. i'll have to look up what i did. lmao.

looked up lst.... i straight up bent those plants with my figners, gently, but i'm not using strings, or anything. its stay bent itself. lol.

so i'm not really sure if you can call that LST.

finally moved all of my clones out of the red cups, and just as i had hoped, almost all of them had a good root system going around the outter edge of the dirt, tho not rootbound. 48 hours after the transplant they started to show some awesome vegitative growth.

i should probably start naming these guys. just so when i harvest its not plant 1, plant 2, plant 3. lol.

i named all my old ones. but i picked them, and i'm having trouble coming up with a theme, the first time, i used musician's i liked last names. well, cept mungaal. that's from chowder.

but i have no idea what to name these guys, since i don't know what strain they are, one of them looks like a 100% sativa, couple others look half indica... and they're all clones of 3 diff plants.... and i didn't keep them seperated! not that i knew what strain any of them were, lol i'm alll bagseed.

lol its not on the bottom, and its down there to get the undersides of as many leaves as i can

right now, there are two upside down rubbermaid containers everything is sitting on. soon as everything gets another 6" to 8" taller i'm going to remove the tubs and put them clear down on the floor(bout 4' from the light) that'll also probably be the time i start to flower everything too.

eh, change of plans. i noticed i have branches coming off of branches, and they're rivaling the branch they prouted from.

its making me think that they think they're too close to the light already. because they're not growing uniformly up. and i don't mean each plant growing the same, i just mean, couple of them are acting as stated above lol.

they look nice tho. i'll post a couple pictures once i find my camera... its around here somewhere.

I have 3 of them. Flower room measures room temp and tub temp(but where it says 90F the sensor fell out on the air pump and i didnt notice), the other one is above my clone tub and measures room temp and that tub temp, and the third is in my mother room and measures room temp and the temp in my clone dome(since it is only about 2 feet away)

yeah, i don't have to measure bucket temp, my first attempt at dwc failed horribly cuz of shitty airstones... no ph tester... general epic fail. bucket started growing alge, plant got burned...

depends on how the samples i take look. looks like the rest are a few days and more away from harvest day

i use a 60-100x pocket mircoscope from Crap-io Shack.(local overpriced electronic tidbits store.) it works well. i wait untill they look cloudy by eye, and start taking samples, but usually when i think they're getting cloudy its just cuz there is alot of tricomes or however you spell it. i will wait a week, take another sample, examine it and by how many cloudy tricomes i see guess how the plant is progressing and make my assumption as to the date of harvest.

lol i'm guessing i complete my 8th week on monday. by looking at my posts on here. i'm doing a better log in mah actual journal for my next one, as i plan on adding a few curly Q cfl's on adjustable hangers to get em down close to the plants. and making either a chicken wire, or just square section wire grate for a scrog, aren't i dumb, scrog with dirt buckets cuz i'm not fancy-pants enouhg to maintain dwc stuff yet. but yeah i hope all turns out good. think some of this stuff's gonna be fluffy tho, and i harvested my first one waaaay to soon. but meh. it was still a great high and decent taste for being 75/25 clear/cloudy

took down half of the plants late late sunday night. bout an oz and a half dry.... donno why. but for some reason. stuff's getting too moist when i cure, to the point wehre its put it in the jar for 16-24 hours, and then put it back out on a tray for another 12 adn then back in the jar. but omg. its all so good. not harsh, dosent really have a taste... but man. got a nice heady high.
