 Russian scientist keep severed dog head alive

Some claim this video to be real other say its fake.
I read that these types of experiments were not uncommon back then so it is plausible.

The transplanted head was observed to drool, attempt to whimper, respond to stimuli etc, demonstrating the brain was alive and aware of its unnatural situation (though obviously not able to rationalise it). Around 36-48 hours, tissue rejection set in and the experiment was terminated.
