Phenotype vs. Genotype question
    #653639 - 01/03/13 08:53 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

Hey there ladies and gents- i hope everyone had a wonderful and safe christmas and new years!

I got a question- trying to wrap my brain about phenotype and genotype. If i grew out 5 seeds of a strain all under the exact same conditions (same tent) and 4 of the plants buds looked IDENTICAL, while the last looked noticeably different- is that a different genotype or phenotype? I have read a little on the subject and just wanted to get a better idea of what i am wondering about. Thanks a ton folks! i hope all is well my friends

S

A phenotype is a physical attribute that differentiates between offspring of the same parents.
You may notice one plant grows tighter internodes; tighter internodes are an observable physical variation and would designate a different phenotype.
So yes, different looking buds would make for a different phenotype.

Look at it like this. We are all humans genotype, but we all look different prototype.but that's not your question but that's how Im gonna answer it.

we still make errors and get viruses, but I think we're probably around version 2.013.0105.1453 by now.  We were only prototypes during the BCE (Before Code Era) years

No, were an evolving genotype.  This is not pertinent to the OP's thread though.  His question has been answered

Two dissimilar plants would differ in genotype and phenotype.

As was said, phenotype refers to physical attributes, like color.  Genotype is the the genetic makeup.  Plants with different genotypes (for a given trait) may show the same phenotype (for a given trait). Plants displaying different phenotypes, must also differ in genotype.

Hybrids (basically all retail seeds bred for growing inside) will have some degree of genetic variation, and that is what you're seeing in your garden.
