Fly Problem
    #598382 - 11/24/11 11:35 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Okay so I got a fly problem in my garden. Im pretty sure the flies are multiplying in the water that collects in the bowls under the pots. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can buy that will take care of this problem with our hurting my precious plants? Thanks

Yeah, I agree 100% with phrostbyte here. You can go down to feed & tack stores and get fly papers super cheap.

Beyond that, I don't know. Maybe try eucaliptis, citronella, or something along those lines.

In order to grow good weed you need to be part carpenter, electrician, plumber, biologist, geneticist, chemist, and very willing to get dirty.

I've been working with power tools since I was 8, my dad is an electrical engineer who owned a 280 gal fish tank, and I studied biology with a specialty in genetics. Getting dirty comes naturally. I think my parents inadvertently trained me to be a weed grower.

See what you think on my first try.

My question is why would you leave stagnant water in your grow room long enough for flies to lay their larvae/eggs/whatever in it in the first place?? I would think that eliminating that water would eliminate your problem.

That's also what I was thinking.

they can lay there eggs in more than stagnant water
but you should be tending to that, as soon as you have standing water.

i was having a problem with them. i believe they were nesting in/around soil surface, due to too thick of canopy, and not enough light and wind penetration

but got a wild hair, and took a pyrethrin bomb and when i clicked it on, instead of frantically running out of the grow room with my shirt over my face...i turned the bomb towards the trunks of the plants
under the canopy, yet above the soil, and sprayed all around in them
the flies have been gone for a little

if they are fungus gnats pick up a product called gnatrol. its a biological larvacide.it is also organic and o.m.r.i. certified. it will kill the larva within 24 hrs. a couple of treatments along with sprinkling some atop the soil will do the trick. put up sticky traps to monitor progress/infestation and kill adults.
