Going Partly Vegan
    #586547 - 09/15/11 11:38 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

So over the past few years ive been seriously concerned with my diet, im out and about all the time and it leads to me eating very unhealthy food and nothing but meats and oils

Im not against eating meat, But I need to do something that works for my lifestyle

im 20 years old, have high blood pressure and high cholesterol

My plan is to go vegan for two out of three meals a day

at home I will cook awesome veggie dishes, but I will still be able to eat out with friends or whatever I want, cause I need a little flexibility. Going to try it this way for at least one month if I have the willpower. Maybe after that Ill go all the way

Any comments ???

I started having issues with my guts (due to damage from RX pills) and had to go on a low fat diet for a while. That sucked cause I had to eat less than 5 grams of fat per DAY or end up in the hospital. Not an easy task to do.

Well, long story short, they fixed my gut issues but I kept a very low fat / high fiber diet because it makes me feel better. All you have to do is stop cut back drastically on fast food and only buy lean cuts of meat and fish. Start eating more green leafy veggies/fruits/nuts, go for regular walks and you should be OK.

You can eat just as bad a vegan diet as any so be smart about it.  Mainly, the key is whole foods and IMO a lot of raw fruits and veggies whenever possible . Also, limit refined grains and sugar.
If you have the money for it, I can recommend you a couple of different shake recipes that you will really benefit from that are also convenient meal replacements.
Oh, and you may feel worse for a while after you start this, or have bloating or gas. It will pass before too long as your gut has to adjust to its new working conditions, which hopefully are much better. Good luck, any questions feel free to ask, I know a fair bit about this from experience.

I've been toying around with the idea of switching to a mostly fruitarian diet for 3-6 months out of the year

I just can't figure out how to insure I'm getting everything I need
or how to work around my workplace eating habits

Nuts and seeds are still considered fruits right? I would image you would be fine as long as you took some hemp seeds for omegas and a B12 vitamin.

yeah a fruitarian diet is usually just a raw food diet

but If I were to do it I'd shoot for
fruit, nuts, grain, dairy, honey, and fish

my suggestion is to be more conscious of what you eat.

going vegan isn't necessarily REAL healthy in itself. it's not bad by any means, but you can be healthy without going vegan.

i would suggest making better eating decisions.

dont drink soda, or things high in sugar. don't eat fast food, period. try and stay away from red mean. grilled chicken and fish taste great and are way better for you. nothing fried. cut out energy drinks (you get way more energy from being genuinely healthy then you do from those drinks any way). and STAY AWAY FROM HIGHLY PROCESSED FOODS

things i do, is drink mostly tea and water. i stay away from pretty much everything else, except juice occasionally. even juice is real high in sugar. when im hungry, i snack on good stuff. the 'kind' bars they sell at quicktrip are really good for you. no preservatives, or coloring. gluten free. made with real ingredients. so get a tea and a kind bar  instead of a mt dew and some doritos. start the day with a smoothie. starts your metabolism and it's healthy, and good for you since you get the fiber and enzymes and what not from the fresh fruit. try to take wheatgrass a few times a week if you can. a 2oz shot of wheatgrass has as much nutrients as 5lbs of green leafy vegetables. i also snack on some organic granola when im hungry and i get off work, i dont eat bad stuff.

for my meals themself, i dont like go crazy with health. when i go out to eat i just try to order something with grilled chicken or fish. with veggies on the side.

being healthy isn't about being extreme. it's about just being generally conscious about what you put in your body. if i want a steak every now and then, i eat it. i dont limit myself. or if i want desert - i get it. but for the most part i try to be careful about what i put in my body.

when i eat stuff with lots of preservatives, i can *taste* that shit. like, i get this nasty taste in my mouth afterwards that just isn't natural. it's crazy, i never noticed it before.

and trust me - you can feel it in your body.

See, that term pedo gets thrown around a lot.
Is a 16 year old guy having sex w/a 16 year old girl a pedophile?
If not, then how is a 30 year old considered a pedophile for doing the same thing?
I think y'all need to look up the definition for pedophile.

Its not just a raw food diet, you only eat fruits, hence fruitarian.
Grains, honey, fish, and vegetables are not fruits.
I believe its usually done for religious/spiritual reasons as eating the fruit of something is considered a commensal or symbiotic relationship.

depends on your definition of fruitarian
and also your definition of vegetable

Fruitarianism involves the practice of following a diet that includes fruits, nuts and seeds, without animal products, vegetables and grains.[1] Fruitarianism is a subset of dietary veganism.

Fruitarianism may be adopted for different reasons, including: ethical, health, religious, political, environmental, cultural, aesthetic and economic. There are many varieties of the diet. Some people whose diet consists of 75% or more fruit consider themselves fruitarians

Some fruitarians will eat only what falls (or would fall) naturally from a plant; that is: foods that can be harvested without killing the plant.[5][6][7] These foods consist primarily of culinary fruits, nuts, and seeds

I fish, I feel it would be wrong to kill the fish and let it go to waste
Dairy is a source of B12, something that is absent in all fruit
and like dairy honey can  be (but often isn't) collected from animals without harming the animal
