Organic soil vs. Hydro debate

I'm a firm believer that organic produce has a fuller "organic" taste over hydroponic buds.

Why is it that quality wine doesn't come from hydroponics? Other than the fact that the best wines come from very very old grapevines.

Different soil compositions give fruit a distinctive taste or character. Something to consider:

Quote:

Volcanic Soil :
Tends to show big cherry and brambly red berry flavors,
along with accents of flowers and spices.
(Flavors last as the wine ages)

Sedimentary Soil:
Tends to display a darker fruit aspect, with more
blackberry and plum nuances, as well as
additional notes of earth, pepper and minerals.
(Apsects of flavors change as the wine ages)

A link for some information on soil characteristics and their effect on grapes for wine making.

I have heard this as well. But when you talk to people that have eaten hydro vegetables they claim they taste much better than the soil produce vegetables. So I am wondering, can this be true, or is this just a myth.

Ever hear of any great wine being made with hydroponic grapes?

Very very few people grow hydroponic grapes. I think you're exercising a logical fallacy here; it's not that great wine CAN'T be made from hydro grapes, it's just that all the great wine makers don't feel like fucking around with the equipment. Grow some high quality hydro grapes and donate them to an experienced Bergevin and I would guarantee a high quality wine will be the result.

I think it's also a self fulfilling prophecy a lot of the time. People expect hydro ors oil to taste better, so their mind misconstrues the flavors and they think their preference is correct. In a complete blind study I would be very surprised if the majority of the people picked the one they thought. In fact, Magash even did this study, and nearly 75% of the people who swore soil is superior ended up choosing the hydro buds

I gotta agree there... I've never even heard of someone growing grapes via hydro. Lol. I want to try doing some lettuce and a few other veggies, but I hardly have time for the girls we have growing now... lol
