I would suggest that any patient suffering any kind of organ failure should avoid smoking. Indica dominant medicine administered as an edible would be best. However, you want to increase your fluid intake with edibles, and I don't know how that would effect the kidneys.

Hi, starting in late on this conversation, my apologies, but if anyone is still curious: Most drugs are metabolized through the liver. Mostly what chronic renal failure patients have to be concerned with is excessive phosphorous, sodium, potassium, and protein metabolism. Too much sodium causes water retention which is why patients are placed on fluid restrictions. Too much protein causes uremia (toxic build up in the blood stream). Phosphorus screws with calcium levels in bones/blood.

Renal failure patients should be instructed as to proper diet and given medications or dialysis to correct the problem.

I would say that MJ itself is not a concern, but consult the label on that package of brownies before consumption.

As to smoking while in renal failure, that is another issue. The respiratory system regulates the ph balance of the body (all you growers should understand acid vs alkaline environment). Patients in renal failure often become acidic and the body compensates by blowing off CO2 in the lungs. I really can't say what marijuana smoke would do to that system, but I can tell you that cigarette smokers have diminished capacity for O2/CO2 exchange. My suggestion then would be to stick to eating your MJ if you really need it.

When in doubt, do consult with your physician. Your private information is always confidential and they can treat you better if they know what you are up to.
