How would you guy recommend blacking out windows very cheaply.
I have tried using sheet insulation with duct tape but it never stays stuck.
What's a fool proof way without damaging the walls and such?

blackout curtains ?
hit up a thrift store, probably like $3
or thick garbage bags

Staple gun using duct tape squares 2" x 2" into drywall. Tuck tape will also help a lot. Black/White Tuck Taped to the wall will work well as well.

Curtains over the window. Box with the insides painted black over the window with the curtains. Put a small office lamp in the box on a timer so it looks like the room is being used.

I already did the box over the window. The light is a good idea.
