Inexpensive Laboratory Water Test
    #303301 - 10/24/09 10:22 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Looking at various posts it seems that people have may questions about the quality of their tap water. Specifically the calcium and magnesium content. You can get an idea from TDS levels but the lingering questions make people turn to extreme measures like RO because they just don't know.

I found a lab that offers inexpensive water testing that provides necessary information for the grower. This lab seems to focus on water testing for agriculture and livestock vs. testing for EPA listed chemicals.

Here is the link to their site: $45 Water Test

I hope this is helpful to someone. Their prices are great and don't overlook their soil tests as well. There is much comfort that comes from knowledge.

$45 seems pretty expensive to me when you could go buy 100 gallons of purified bottled water for the same price

Possibly but once you know your water is good and the levels of basic dissolved solids you never have to buy bottled water again.

or you could just go to your counties website and look up information on the utilities.  They provide this type of information for free under the Clean Water Act.

Soooo pay 45$ for free information?  Nah, I'll pass.

There's a sample of the water report for my area.  It's two pages long.

I wouldn't call getting a R/O system extreme.

I payed 99$ for a 6 stage reverse osmosis/De-ionizer with tank.

Perfect water everytime. I have 30 fish tanks running so it makes it much easier than treating every gallon of water out of the tap.

That might be why I don't think its extreme.

Yes it is necessary for fish. I kept poison dart frogs for quite some time and the water quality was very important. I am also aware of the water reports that are provided by you municipality but there can be some differences between the water they test and the water coming out of your tap.
