dog poo in ma soil
    #227293 - 05/17/09 06:00 PM (14 years, 9 months ago)

i just got my MH light up and running and moved my plants to their new home until its time to flower outside. But i was wondering, Ihave a rather large dog and i want to put together a little compost pile in the back yard and was thinkin about what i need to feed my dog to keep her and the plants healthy. oh and how would i got about composting it, or should i just age it and mix into soil as a supplement.

i think its a great way to keep my yard clean.

i would also like to add that i was cleaning up after her today and i noticed more than half of her droppings had much "firefang" on them. which makes me think that with decent composting, it could become a decent soil supplement, any thoughts?

This is all i could find for this odd question. I actuley think it will be alright if you smoke and dont eat the weed.

Quote:

Although dog and cat manure both contain organic nutrients useful to plants, neither is safe to use in soil containing food crops. Both contain parasitic pathogens that are harmful to human health. Dog manure can contain the eggs of Toxocara canis (the common large roundworm), which can also infect humans. It's estimated that 90% of young puppies are infected with this worm-many are born infected-and up to 50% of all adult dogs. The eggs can be transferred to the human mouth by a person's fingers or from foods that have been in contact with dog feces. Toxocara eggs can remain viable in the soil for up to 10 years depending on environmental conditions. Because no information is known on the effects hot composting has on Toxocara eggs, it also unsafe to add dog manure to compost heaps intended for food crops.

We have berry trees planted as wind rows. The rabbits in the winter eat the bark. This stressed the trees. We put dog poop around perimeter of wind rows. Find that this deters the rabbits.

LOL, it could keep little green eating citters away from your bud!

the only bad thing i can find about dog shit is it might have 2 much nitrogen.

ive read lots of things like that cubie, and i think the same thing personally, i also think that the drying of the bud would relive some of those pressures too. but im no doctor either.

im pretty sure that composting decreases the nitrogen content but i could be wrong there too.

anyway, maybe ill just try it out when i get some together, maybe mix it at 50% compost/ 25% verm/ 25% perlite for my medium, sound good?
