 Canna butter

Just started my first batch of canna butter.
using 1/2 pound of unsalted butter, 1 cup water and over 1/2 oz weed.
Is simmering it for 6-8 hours needed?

fill half the pot with water.
keep it covered and stir occasionally.
add more water as it evaporates.
6-8 hours is good but 22-24 is godly.

Why water? that seems really unnecessary to me.....
Usually when I make cannabutter I just keep the temp right at or below the point where you see bubbles forming in the butter, and simmer for 2-4 hours. Gets me ripped as shit, so it must be doing something alright.

the water keeps the butter from burning and when you resolidify the butter you can store it for long periods of time in the freezer.
i just do it the way i was shown.

How important is it to strain the weed outta the butter?
Seems to me that it would add to the flavor

trust me, once you remove the weed there will be plenty of flavor left over.
pour the mixture through cheeseclothe or an old shirt into a bowl large enough to handle at least double the water/butter.
put bowl in your icebox until butter is solid again.
drain the brown ass water being careful not to lose any chunks of butter.
dry off and enjoy.

Would adding some red wine to the simmering pot aid in the extraction?
Maybe add it in the last 2-4 hours

yeah, I think it's perfectly fine with just butter man, it'll absorb so much of the thc that way you really won't need the wine.
and that way you can use your butter for delicious sweet things, instead of just chicken marsala
