THC is destroyed by the liver?
    #203977 - 03/08/09 12:04 PM (15 years, 14 days ago)

In my substance abuse class, a video claimed that THC is destroyed by the liver and turns into other cannabinoids, and then those cannabinoids produce the high.  I thought THC was supposed to be the most potent of the cannabinoids in pot, sounds weird that it would be destroyed immediately...

Later in the movie they also said "growers use the sensimillia technique to produce what is called skunk buds"  :rofl2:

I got to school in SF, and in the video there was a clinic that said they have been seeing more and more people solely for marijuana addiction.  Randomly there is a ~35 year old in that class who has been working at that very clinic for over 10 years.  She said that the only cases they see for just marijuana are ALL court ordered and she has never seen anyone come in for it voluntarily.  The teacher responded with a weak, well thats not what they said in the film.

There is so much misinformation in that class its ridiculous

Quote:

THC is metabolized mainly to 11-OH-THC (11-hydroxy-THC) by the human body. This metabolite is still psychoactive and is further oxidized to 11-Nor-9-carboxy-THC (THC-COOH). In humans and animals, more than 100 metabolites could be identified, but 11-OH-THC and THC-COOH are the dominating metabolites. Metabolism occurs mainly in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes CYP2C9, CYP2C19, and CYP3A4. More than 55% of THC is excreted in the feces and ~20% in the urine. The main metabolite in urine is the ester of glucuronic acid and THC-COOH and free THC-COOH. In the feces, mainly 11-OH-THC was detected.
