Overwintering a plant?? Has it been done?
    #167255 - 12/22/08 07:16 AM (15 years, 3 months ago)

I read in Mel Frank's book about legendary Hawaiian plants that were three years old.

Has anyone actually seen this work outdoors and naturally?

How long have you left plants in the ground in a frost free zone and what happened to them eventually?

I took this yesterday.

Here is the quote from THE MARIJUANA GROWER'S GUIDE..........by Mel Frank & Ed Rosenthal
Rejuvenation
Plants grown in areas where the weather is mild can survive winter when there are no heavy freezes. During
the winter the plants will grow very slowly, but as soon as the weather warms, and the light gets more intense,
the plants respond. This technique can also be used to obtain a second growth crop during Indian summers.
The second growth is not as vigorous as the original, but is does increase the total harvest.
To prepare plants for rejuvenation, leave three or four pairs of lowers branches with leaves on the plant when
you harvest. The leaves need not be large, but they must be green. Water and fertilise the plants. Within a
days the plants will show new growth.
The authors observed an outdoor container composed entirely of plants which survived a mild San Francisco
Bay Area winter. These developed healthy second growth the following summer and flowered again in the fall.
Some growers in Hawaii claim that their plants are three years old and that the plants have yielded as many
as six crops of buds. Perennial marijuana plants also grow in Jamaica and Thailand.

What if you wrapped them so the frost or freeze doesn't actually touch the plant? It freezes like crazy where i live.

ive actually harvested a plant for a friend,  and he was going to throw it away, he had kept it in 5gallon bucket, then pulled it inside, i clipped the buds and chopped her down but left, some sucker leaves. And i had another friend throw the plant under constant filtered light for about a week, then used flours, for veg. and if you know anything about super cropping, everywhere you cut, when the plant rejuvies then twice as many cola buds formed, this was inside so not exactly answering you question, but they got 9oz of dank with  just a 400w mh, they let the plant get huge before flowering it, but it had over 10 nice big buds, so even if it does freeze, if you can bring it back inside the next go around should be plentiful.  SWIM plans on having an indoor crop, and wants it to be done in time to harvest then rejuvenate and throw outdoors next year, guaranteed female  and will already be pruned for max yield...

P.S. if you don't own a copy of Marijuana Horticulture, the indoor/outdoor medical growers bible, you need to get a copy!

That's fascinating!  I would like to see a 3 year old plant.  It would probably have some serious bark on it.

Hi all I could do with some advice.  I am overwintering a plant that popped up in my garden. I'm in zone 5a? (Chicago-land) She is currently in my basement and I'm guessing by the smell and darkening color changes she is almost done.  The stem is losing color, except for the red streaks up the stem and most of the fan leaves have dropped.  The droplets are all still clear. My thumb is about olive drab green, and had she not lived outside she probably would have died by now. How do I know when to pull it based on the dwindling nature?

A friend of mine grew a plant outdoor for 9 years. Then one day the border patrol flew down in a helicopter and flew away with it. Part stayed veg year round due to streetlight. It was a big Mexican Sativa.

I wonder if this plant is represented in the pic? I'm a newbie, and I find growing these plants engaging. I would highly appreciate any help you could provide and any advice that could help me easily start. I have some friends working at weed dispensaries and asked them for a helping hand, but they simply refused me without explaining anything. I guess I had some friends, though. I hope you folks are doing great. I'm keenly waiting for a reply. Thanks a lot for considering my request!

I have revegged a plant indoors a couple of times, one I even flowered twice; once from seed, then revegged as a clone momma and finally flowered out at the end, it was a freaking bush that last flower, downing a gallon of nutrients per day in deep water hydro :burtbye:
