At the moment, I am planning to build a vegging box, that way I can always have plants in veg and plants in bloom.
Anyways, I would like to conserve as much power as possible so I am looking at lighting it with CFL's.
I know I need to get above 6400k spectrum for vegging. I have found some 14000k cfls for vegging at the same wattage. These lights are about $20 dearer than the 6400k. Are they better to use for veg?
Also, I plan to veg about 20 plants maximum at a time. The bulbs I am looking at are 125w each. How many plants per bulb could I have?
If I need more than 3 of the expensive cfl's I may just get a MH lighting kit. With a MH, how many watts would you recommend for 15-20 vegging plants?
Keep in mind that the plants wont get too big in there as after 1 month of vegging, i will move to my flowering tent. I'm thinking a 400w would suffice, what do you guys think?
Thanks for any assistance DrMagickzX

Really,if you wanted to save money, and the plants aren't going to be there for that long, just get one of those four footers from walmart, that take the two 40 watt bulbs. It's only about $10 bucks for the fixture, and a two pack a bulbs is only a few bucks. You can line the plants all down the length of the fixture.I've actually flowered under two of them before, and got Amazing results!

You may 'know' it, but that is false. Warm 2700K CFLS have more than enough blue for vegging. Do a search on the spectral graphs of various CFLs. Only 10% blue is enough. HPS is rarely used in veg because the blue is about 2-3% thus the reason for MH.
