So, I'm just about there with my Chronic plant. Oddly enough, all of her lower branches are very swollen and I'd say over 50% of the hairs are brown.
However, the top of her main cola is certainly not ready. The top, oh, 3 inches still has mostly white hairs (~15% brown?)...and, its purpling up I didn't know Chronic could do that, but its turning a distinct purple.
I'm letting her go for one more week...but I'm worried the lower buds will be too mature and the cola will be immature.
I know you can harvest different sections of the plant at different times, but how much of the plant can you chop before it doesn't live anymore? I mean, it IS only the top cola thats a little immature. Maybe it will be ready in a week?
I'd check the trichs but my damn microscope hasn't come in the mail and I lost my loupe during a drunkn St. Patricks Day...
I just took off the bottom nugs on my Purple Kush. They were all 75%-100%, swollen as fuck, calyxs that look white coated in resin.
I am going to leave the top main cola on for a few days to a week because it is probably at about 60-70%, swollen resin coated but like you the pistils at the very tip are still mostly white and sticking straight up.
So yeah you can remove them bottom branch nugs and divert some power to the main cola. I do it. There are people who do it with pop corn nugs on their bushes to help divert power to the top canopy.
