What is causing these little white spots on the fan leaves?
    #507007 - 12/20/10 01:47 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

Hydro Growers:
1. Are you growing from seed or clones? Seed
2. How old are your plants? 72 Days from seedling and 39 Days flowering
3. How tall are your plants? 4 1/2 feet
4. What type of hydro system are you using? Flood and drain
5. What brand/type of nutrients are you using? General Hydroponics 3 part flora series
6. What is the Ph of your nutrient solution? I keep it between 5.8 and 6.0
7. What is the PPM/EC of your tap water? I use distilled water 0 ppm
8. What is the PPM/EC of your nutrient solution? 800-1000 ppm
9. What is the temperature of your nutrient solution? 70-75 Fahrenheit
10. Does your PPM/EC show a rise or fall when you do your daily PPM check? Yes, it normally drops 40-50 ppm per day.
11. Does your pH show a rise or fall when you do your daily check? It drops for the first few days and after that it stays pretty stable.
12. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything? No
13. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights") 400 watt HPS and four 26 watt compact fluorescent daylight bulbs for side lighting.
14. How close are your lights to the plants? 12 inches
15. What size is your grow space in square feet? 2'x 3'
16. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space? 70-78 degrees Fahrenheit and 30%-50% relative humidity.
17. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space? Looked very carefully but have not seen any.
18. How much experience do you have growing? 4th grow

I have noticed these little white spots on several of the fan leaves. I researched and everywhere I have looked suggests that it is the dreaded spider mite. I have spent a lot of time looking for the mites but I have not seen no sign of them under the leaves or anywhere no webs or nothing. I am stumped.

Do you have a pic of the under side of the leaves? It could be the start of a magnesium or potassium deficiency but it's hard to tell but lets hope its that and not mites because a def. is easier to deal with then mites.
What strain is that? Im gonna guess it has c99 or a11 in it? Or maybe a cheese?

Also, shake the plant and see if you see any flies flying around. If it's not mites, not mag. or pot. deficiency then it is prolly white flies.

I don't have any pictures of the underside. The spots go all the way through to the bottom of the leaves. My ph has been stable. I am using a 4 gallon reservoir, 0ml(grow)-40ml(micro)-80ml(bloom)/4 gal. The TDS is around 1000ppm. I change my nutrient solution every 7 days.

This is "Blue Venom" (White Widow x Blueberry) from G13 Labs.

I will try to photograph the bottom of the leaves tomorrow. I would now but my plant is sleeping. But I'll give you one of one of some flowers in the meantime.

if you have a microscope to check trichomes then cut a small piece of the leaf and check for bugs, if you don't see any then good chance it's a nut. deficiency if not go get one there cheap and the trich's are cool to check out, plus if it is bugs you'll know what bug it is and how to treat it properly for your plants phase.

I dont know about you but my eyes pick up the mites better then the eggs. I can see both, but mites are easier to see for me.

I wasn't able to get a photo of the bottom of the leaves. But, I ordered a pocket microscope with 60X - 100X magnification. I should be getting it in a day or two.

I will examine it carefully with the scope and see what I find. The problem doesn't seem to be getting any worse it still looks the same as it does in the picture I posted. I still haven't seen anything crawling around on my plant.

I changed the nutrients yesterday. Maybe it was some sort of deficiency or something. But I have never seen this before.
