I've heard of LOW PH causing nutrient lockout, but not high PH...

You can lock out nutes due to a solution that's too alkaline.  Try feeding some plants in hydro at a Ph of 7 and see what happens

Word thanks, I just don't hear about that as often.

I give my plants a PH 8 or higher sometimes.  My soil must be really acidic if that's where the plants produce the best.

soil is a little different than hydro though because you're feeding the microbes which in turn feed the plants. microbes have different requirements for proper functioning, and they actively alter the local pH in the soil to keep your plants happy. beneficial mutualisms are amazing, neither species could live without the other.

Very true harry, but the Ph rules still apply.  Optimal levels should be met to ensure proper nutrient uptake and to avoid lockouts which lead to toxic buildups.  Soil grown plants tend to be a little more tolerant with Ph fluctuations, but you still need to monitor what your level is so you don't get it to far off base.
